More Proof that Ike Hilliard sucked big balls

Its not Ike's fault he was drafted a round too early.

He was a solid player, a long term starter... even being picked a round early, the Giants still got their value out of him.

Exactly.

Ike was the "worst" of the first-round receivers that year... but the Giants smartly picked him ahead of Yatil Green, Rae Carruth, and Reidel Anthony, none of which ever did a thing in the NFL.

I mean, jeez... at least he didn't shoot his pregnant girlfriend.

Some people think that depending on the round you are drafted, you should produce a certain amount of yards, tds, tackles, sacks...

Its one thing to be pissed about when a player was drafted and another to be pissed about their production.

If Ike Hilliard is one of the worst for anyone here, don't look at any first round draft picks before 1997 and ignore a few afterwards

Why do I hate Ike? Because he sucked big fucking balls... that's why. Arguably one of the SLOWEST, if not the slowest WR in the league. Worse hands I ever saw in my life... Almost lead the league in Drop balls, while only playing 12 game that season. This man was always among the leaders in drop balls... But yet, for some fucking reason, people thought he had great hands. Why? He fucking sucked.

I will never forget Tony Dungy respond when asked about Ike Hilliard not being in the line up. "Now we have to cover the whole field."

Teams were more affraid of Ron Dixon than Ike Hilliard.

Also this whole notion of Ike being a 3rd down specialist, always baffled me. For he NEVER... EVER lead the team in 3rd down conversions... In fact, he never finished higher than 3rd on team.

I have no doubt in my mind Jim Fassel personally thanked Dawkins for that late hit on Ike. Because after Ike went down, and Shockey became the second target. The Giants offense took off that year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because you guess it... because teams had to start covering the whole field now.

Dude, why the Ike hate?

This is beyond reason, you just are beating up the guy, for what?

He didn't drop any super bowl TD pass.

He was a solid WR, a security blanket for Kerry Collins. He had a good run with the Giants, this hatred is unfounded.

Geez, find somebody else (not me) to beat up (booyah).

I think I remember the Giants being interested in Rae Carruth, in this draft. Ike was a much better option, he was not a 100 yard guy. Overall a solid wideout. Don't ask me to prove the Rae Carruth thing either, I remember George Young saying it on the radio, unless you can dig him up and bring him back to live, I don't know how to prove it. Carruth was a top ten pick, until teams started finding out about the character issues. Hillard was on a great Florida team, with Reidel Anthony opposite him. They allowed Danny Wuerrfel to get the heisman that year..

Nem, I actually agree that Hilliard was highly overrated around here. Cruz will probably gain more yards in half a season than Ike did in 4 of his. And 0 TDs playing 16 games is unforgivable in 2004.

But he hasn't played a down in the NFL since 2008, and Ike hasn't played for us since 2004. It's time to let go, bud.

he produced less than you'd want someone drafted in that spot to produce but who knows how much that neck/spine injury that he suffered his rookie year took out of him.

decent possession receiver but i think history is treating him fairy--i hadn't thought about the guy in years until this thread

That fassel line is beyond stupid. It's bad you would make light of that situation with anyone. That was the dirtiest hit on a player that deserved a huge suspension that never happened. You're talking about a guy who came in after an era where we had numerous fuck ups as 1st round draft picks, with guys like Dayne, Shaun Williams, and you pick on a guy who actually tried and played hard. I saw the guy do enough for me and 99% of Giant fans to be happy with. You'd swear, he came after a long line of top wide receivers and was a huge drop off. Seriously, I don't get the theory, that when some good comes along, that those before him just sucked.

If I recall correctly, Ike even had a couple of solid years in Tampa Bay after his stint with us.....

Not the best numbers for the #7 overall, but like Booyah said, the guy had heart and played with intensity. He also made some nice plays throughout his career. He was certainly better than Thomas Lewis, our other 1st round wide receiver of that era.

He used to take some hard shots, too. He was almost like Kevin Boss in a small WR body. A la Wayne Chrebet, IMO.
