More Proof that Ike Hilliard sucked big balls

If I recall correctly, Ike even had a couple of solid years in Tampa Bay after his stint with us.....

Not the best numbers for the #7 overall, but like Booyah said, the guy had heart and played with intensity. He also made some nice plays throughout his career. He was certainly better than Thomas Lewis, our other 1st round wide receiver of that era.

He used to take some hard shots, too. He was almost like Kevin Boss in a small WR body. A la Wayne Chrebet, IMO.

Bro, I thought the same thing. I liked Ike a lot, he was one of my favorite players.

I agree, Ike was a solid receiver and 100 yd games weren't his forte. He was a possession/3rd down guy, who was very dependable over the middle. Before the Giants had Boss to go over the middle and get clobbered, it was Ike, poor guy took a ton of hits. Plus he had Amani Toomer and Tiki to split receptions with, and he had Kanell and Kent Graham throwing to him for a couple of years.

Additionally Nem, he only played for the Giants for 8 years, which was more like 7 because of the neck injury.

He broke 500 yds receiving once in Tampa Bay.

Still not getting the Hilliard love. He may have played with heart, but not a lot of yardage.

That fassel line is beyond stupid. It's bad you would make light of that situation with anyone. That was the dirtiest hit on a player that deserved a huge suspension that never happened. You're talking about a guy who came in after an era where we had numerous fuck ups as 1st round draft picks, with guys like Dayne, Shaun Williams, and you pick on a guy who actually tried and played hard. I saw the guy do enough for me and 99% of Giant fans to be happy with. You'd swear, he came after a long line of top wide receivers and was a huge drop off. Seriously, I don't get the theory, that when some good comes along, that those before him just sucked.

That dirty hit was something out of the Jack Tatum era.....

There are the numbers for Ike. Nothing crazy in the least but I wouldn't consider him a major disappointment.

He never seemed quite right after his first neck injury, but after the Dawkins hit the drop off in his numbers is painful to look at. He wasn't even a 10 yards/rec. guy after that.

Hilliard might have been a nice player in a true west coast offense. The only decent QB the Giants had in Hilliard's time was Kerry Collins, and he was more of a play action - deep ball kind of QB;, the short finesse routes that were Hilliard's strength were never Collins' strong suit.

Nem, exactly when did Dungy dump all over Hilliard? I'm not finding any record of that quote on the web, except for where somebody named Nemesis has brought it up, lol. Doesn't really seem like Dungy's style too... that guy is way too nice to go Rex Ryan like that.

That's like saying " I know this detective, and solving crime wasn't his thing."

No, it isn't. There's much more to the position then getting at least an arbitrary number of yards in a game.

By the way, Calvin Johnson only has 14. And, Toomer, who is arguably the best WR in Giants history had 22 in 189 games. While Ike had 8 in 96 games in Blue.

So, Toomer's 11.6% of games vs. Hilliard's 8.3% is not that big of a difference.
