MikeGL
Giants are also getting 2019 7th round pick. I'd say this isn't actually a bad deal and we get a linebacker that they can coach up. I think this is pretty good.
Gman329
One of our 4th rounders and a 6th.....and we get a 7th back. Not bad. Low risk, maybe some reward if he fits the scheme, which he apparently did not with LA. But holy cap hit, Batman!! He better f*cking fit the scheme for $10+M a year! Giants acquired ILB Alec Ogletree and a 2018 seventh-round pick from the Rams in exchange for 2018 fourth- and sixth-round picks. The Rams just signed Ogletree to a four-year, $42 million extension in October but evidently didn't like his fit in DC Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense. L.A. was gashed by the run last season, and playing Ogletree and Mark Barron, a pair of converted safeties, at inside linebacker was a big reason for that. Both are extremely athletic, but they were too light and got pushed around by offensive linemen. The Rams recoup the fourth-rounder they sent to K.C. in the Marcus Peters deal with this move and clear a bunch of cash off the books for future long-term deals. Linebacker was a massive need for the Giants. Mar 7 - 4:01 PM Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter
CrazedDogs
Interesting. Sounds like a good fit for Bettcher, and this will help Collins spend more time with the back end of the D. I can only assume... Haven't seen much of Ogletree. But it's a good plan.
Gman329
He was an outside LB, playing weak side his first two years, before the Rams moved him to MLB the last two seasons. He apparently struggled against the run, which isn't surprising at 235 lbs. I'm guessing Bettcher has him penciled in back on the outside. He was a first round pick in 2013 and has solid numbers in tackles and passes defensed (see link). Could be an excellent pick up.....and he's only $3M cap hit this year. http://www.rotoworld.com/stats/nfl/8383/alec-ogletree
Mr. P
From Twitter: Alex Ogletree has a $7 million roster due on March 16 and will count $10 million vs the salary cap this season. Ogletree will also have his $6 million roster bonus for next year guaranteed by being on the Giants roster on March 16 of this year.
Gman329
Damn, that's a different story. For a $10M cap hit, Giants obviously see him as a major contributor. Wonder if there's any chance the Rams are picking up some of that roster bonus $$?
boohyah
Considering how little value we've gotten in the late rounds in the draft in the last few years, this is a good deal even if it didn't work out fully. Mind you, the Eagles go and do a better deal and get Bennett for a 5th.
Herc
Really good player. High character guy too. I love it
BlueInCanada
Well he's the best LB the Giants have had since Pierce. Despite the cap hit, he's a young and very fast LB. Sounds like a guarantee that this team is going to be moving to a base 3-4.

BlueInCanada
. Isnt that what we are running now? 230+ tackles and a few sacks in two years. I think he did pretty well for himself.

Nas
The reporting out of LA is he didn't really fit their 3-4. I dont claim to know this but it was reported he was playing out of position in that 3-4.... Look this took me by surprise but I have to trust the coaches here. Mr. P
Also from twitter: For all those worried about the salary cap (and really don't understand it) #Giants will likely turn Ogletree's roster bonus into a signing bonus and instantly his 2018 cap number will be $4.75M. Just like that $5.25M saved vs. cap, pushed to future years.

Herc
And in case anyone has any doubts about this trade, this is the same gm who gave tavon Austin 4 years 42 mil with 28.5 guaranteed. Watching how excited he was to get this deal done was the highlight of hard knocks two years ago.
