CrazedDogs
Simms was very underrated... on a team that had more than one half decent receiver he would have put up some numbers. Still.... Eli, all day long. Never seen a QB so good when it matters most.
gmenroc
Tough to say. I'm inclined to take Eli because of his coolness under pressure, but then again, when faced with the pressure of performing in the game's biggest game, Simms set the completion percentage record that still stands today if not mistaken. No doubt, Eli has better receivers to throw to. Both had great defenses playing along side them. The running game edge goes to Simms...but that could be more a factor of the way the game was played back then. I still think that I give the edge to Eli...but it's close for me. Hos did what Simms could do with that team when Simms went down...I dont 'know of anybody that could do what Eili did last winter with the team he had...on the road......if he had gone down...Eil's road playoff record....is fucking crazy. I was too young and didn't exactly grasp what a first down is lol. Same here. But after watching Kerry Colin's play for a few seasons then that one game where they switch Eli in for Warner. Seeing Eli making that first pass I knew we had something special. It was the Asian sage in me that saw this. LOL But seriously I believe there's more rings to come for Eli. JMFP
This is a tough one. I'm going with Eli, but only because of his better pocket mobility. I think Eli is more clutch, too, but that's a hard one.......Simms was absolutely lights-out in his SB. He didn't have to come back like Eli did, because he was so lethal the game was out of hand by the middle of the 4th quarter. As far as accuracy goes, Simms was among the most accurate passers that I've ever seen. When he was protected, the pass was going to be where it was supposed to be.....beautiful spirals, with touch or velocity depending on the coverage. And Simms didn't have nearly the weapons that Eli had......most of his passing yards came on 3rd down, when the entire defense knew it was a pass. I have no clue what sort of stats Simms would have finished with if Bill Walsh was able to draft him.
JMFP
Yes, I'm totally nude while watching this video..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwUA5gjImQo Seriously though.....some of the old timers on this board can tell you, the Giants franchise was a shit sandwich before Phil Simms was drafted....he helped restore the team to it's former glory. Up until Eli Manning, Phil Simms was the greatest QB in Giants History, as far as I'm concerned.
JackStroud
Its still Simms at this point.......Simms would have easily had his second ring as SB QB had he not gotten hurt in 1990 Eli has had some pretty rotten years prior to the last 4 seasons Eli needs to win another, and post up a few good regular seasons to pass Simms
fishgutmartyr
Phil was easily the best QB of my youth. I was horrified when we lost him. But Eli is better. I could go on with he has better weapons, etc, etc. But Phil would not have done what Eli did last year. I think you'd have to look long and hard through the history of the game to find a QB that could have done that. He completely carried a team with no running game and extremely limited defense into the playoffs; and only then did the defense really pick things up. There were guys with better stats last year, but no one carried their team like Eli did.

Very true.....for all the talk about Drew Brees (and he deserves the praise), he was operating behind a Pro Bowl line.....pretty sure they were top 5 in both the run and pass last season. JackStroud
Think about what Simms did in the 1st SB win with a very pedestrian WR corp.......Phil McConkey, give me a break I don't think Eli has had a game like that in his career as yet.....let alone a SB game

I think Eli's is still in front of him, and that's scary. And like I said, Phil is still very dear in my memories--I don't consider it an insult to him to call him second best to Eli. I just think Eli is that good. Phil gave us our first Superbowl--no one can take that from him. And I wouldn't want to even if I could.

I think Simms was a highly underrated passer... probably threw a better looking ball than Eli.... but I've never seen a QB put a team on his back like Eli did last season. For me, 2011 alone puts Eli in the Hall.

Eh, Drew Brees is a check down artist. He's the king of the worthless completion. He's on the perfect team for his skill set though, I'll give him that. Great OL, an offense loaded with dangerous players, and a mind fuck offensive system... its like Chad Pennington's wet dream down there in New Orleans.
