This one is the worst

Once Philly got in I had serious doubts... to get all those breaks then destroy Dallas the way they did it was almost like the writing was on the wall. We played like crap the last month too and that Carolina win looks a lot less impressive considering they nearly blew it against New Orleans and played like shit against a team that couldn't win on the east coast this year.

My sentiments exactly. We peaked at the wrong time and played poorly down the stretch, our OC is a fucking moron, and Philly has caught fire. We still beat ourselves more than Philly beat us, though. All the reasons why we lost are the game are correctable, so long as we keep the nucleus of the team in place.

The only comfort I take from this loss is that we weren't about to beat Pittsburgh again and if this goes like I expect it to, that would be the opponent. We could move the ball in the red zone against Philly, against, MN, what do you think the Steelers would do to us. We gave them everything we had last time and it came down to a botched snap by their long snapper; I don't think fortune would favor us that way twice.

We just can't score and that's that. We'll be better next year if we don't dismantle our running attack and upgrade at WR.

It bothers me too, but I'm not sure if I'm bothered more by losing to Philly (which I hate) or that we stopped being majorly competitive in the end. You can give me all the Carolina game you want, but Philly exposed a big weakness in us and until we disprove it, I expect that Jim Johnson will continue to deprive us the respect of any deep threat, make Eli beat us passing, and just shut down the running lanes. Yep, that's about what they did and it worked twice in as many months.

I have my revenge on Madden each weekend, so maybe that's a consolation.

right on, there was something inevitable about it for me and I was able to get over it quickly with the help of 2 bloody marys.

Ditto, except for the bloody marys. We weren't playing well down the stretch, so there was no surprise.

Dear Lord Jim, I know he is a fucking RAM, I was at the game they lost 19-13 MY FUCKING POINT WAS THAT WE WERE PROBABLY NOT GONNA BEAT THE NINERS THE NEXT WEEK ANYWAY!

So yes that what my point, it cost us a chance to go to San fran, but it did not bother me like this because in reality the 89 Niners were on a mission, see 55-10 vs the Broncos in the SB.

I figured that is what you meant, which is why I wrote this:

I know you know this, though! Did you just mean that the Flipper TD cost us a chance to PLAY the 49ers in the Conference Championship Game?

No need to go ballistic on me! :P Anywho, I'm glad you brought up that game. The Giants had a first round bye that year after going 12-4 in the regular season, only to lose to those Rams in their first playoff game. This storyline sound familiar? The next season the Giants went 13-3 and beat the Bills in the SuperBowl. So hopefully this is a good omen for things to come!

Only difference was we won a lot of close games in 89 as opposed to this year with the amount of blowouts we had. My best moment from that season was @ Denver, old Mile High Stadium Giants won in the snow 7-3 and Gary Reasons completely blew up a 4th and goal play for a goal line stand ........ defining moment of that season and one where people felt they were a SB team. San Fran was just too good that year though and probably unlike the next year would have beaten the Giants @ Candlestick

They didn't shut down our running game at all. We had about 140 yards rushing. Don't let the piss poor play calling on 4th and short twice get to your head. We could of ran the ball more against them

Most painful games ever....

1. San Fran playoff meltdown... our offense was so hot those last 6 games it seemed as though it were unstopable. I remember just sitting on my coach in a daze for hours after that game not moving. I couldn't sleep the next 2 nights. Botched field goal to end it... sickening

2. Vikings playoff game meltdown... where was instant replay when you needed it. Minnesota td called on a pass caught with his foot out of bounds at the end.

3. Superbowl against the Ravens - I was there. Keith Hamilton phantom holding call on a pick 6 - who knows if that changes the game. I was there. Stunned.

4. This game against the eagles (08' playoffs) - We should have won by atleast 10-20 points. Missed 4th and shorts, 2 missed field goals with a kicker who missed only 1 all year (not including blocked kicks), 1st and 5 three passes in a row, 4 teams left (all of which we beat and all of which I consider the Giants far superior than (minus the Steelers), 3rd and 20 conversion, missing receivers deep, Robbins and Jacobs shoe lace tackles that would have been touchdowns, etc...

5. Loss to Seattle a few years ago when we missed a million field goals. Tiki has a long run to their 30 in overtime and we think the game is over only to have a missed field goal and eventual loss follow. This was all over Thanksgiving break and I had a 3 hour ride back to college after the game and I thought I was going to kill someone on the road.

6. That same weekend one year later and I had to drive back to school again after the Titans game. We blow a 20+ point lead and let Vince Young get a free pass from a Kiwanuka sack to eventually win the game. Again I drove back to school wanting to drive my car off a bridge....

Crushing losses that have taken years off my life.

Has the week as been going on this past sundays lost has been bothering me more and more, one i think how fucking pathetic the NFC title game is this sunday also think about how we would fucking annihilate the Cardinals at home sunday, and its the fucking Eagles of all teams. I just never seen a Giants team look this uninspired they just looked rusty, dead, or just plain oh well we won it last year who gives a fuck. I am hoping we use this as motivation for next year, we get Osi back, i am hoping for a reciever, i am really leary about giving Jacobs a huge deal too much of an injury history and our offense line could make any RB into a star plus, Jacobs didn't not seem to be running with as much purpose as normal sunday (Sheldon Brown takes him down by his shoe strings? he got bottled up more often then he should of) the draft as some quality backs that could be available to us. Moreno,McCoy?. Franchise Jacobs trade him for a wideout, Plex is not coming back sorry he's not JR did not say he actually wants him back, all he said is if he grows up maybe? and thats a big maybe

Same here. Not saying I was expecting them to lose, but I couldn't get the thought out of my mind that they had lost 3 of 4 to end the season, that the Eagles had just whooped us in the same stadium a few weeks prior, that Carney missed a big kick to end the season in Minny, and then when I heard it was going to be windy...

yes, the wind was as much our achilles heel this season as linebackers were in 2005 and special teams was in 2002.

Honestly, and I hate reverting back to this team because x has no regards for them (:P ), but I was more disappointed in the way we lost that 2000 Superbowl then this year, and the Flipper Anderson touchdown was a killer also. The Jets beating us on a last minute touchdown to Al Toon also bothered me more, because it knocked us out of the playoffs, it was the Jets and because it was Al Toon, who was a Jet I had a lot of time for.

That is the loss that most matches this one. A team destined for greatness loses to an also ran team in fucking green....who then proceed to act as if they won the Super Bowl and never win anything in the playoffs. I can still see his stupid spats dropping inside the end line. :brooding:

I don't agree with your opinion of Jacobs. He has missed time due to injury, I can't dispute that. However, he may very well be more important to this offense than Burress. There is something to be said about a back that can wear down a defense simply by players having to tackle him. Look at Ward and Bradshaw's effectiveness when he went down. The regular season game at the stadium against philly was a poor showing by the offense, but when Jacobs got hurt, they couldn't move the ball at all. The next week in Dallas, Ward is unable to make a difference and the Giants have another stagnant display on offense. When he returned against Carolina, Jacobs was given the ball 24 times, and Ward had a career day, running for 215 yards. I think Jacobs is the #1 priority for the team heading into the offseason. Now, about the game. The fact Jacobs was given the ball 19 times in a playoff game where Eli simply didn't have it is unacceptable to me. I've thought about it all week and I've tried to rationalize a reason for it but I come up empty. This is a terrible loss, considering the expectations heading into the postseason. I'm going to try and put this into perspective though. If you told me after the Super Bowl that Strahan would retire, Osi would be lost for the year in the preseason, and Burress would shoot himself in the leg mid season, it would be a pretty discouraging forecast. Yet the Giants still won the division and earned the #1 seed and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. Maybe this makes the loss even worse but it does show me that this team displays tremendous depth and resilience and I am extremely optimistic for the future

What this season said to me was that this Giants team is going to be really good for a long

time to come, barring injuries, retirements and self inflicted gunshot wounds.

Yes this year the Giants had depth, but it was obvious the losses of Osi, Strahan hurt Tuck and

Kiwi as both looked gasses after the 2nd Cowboys game this year. Guys like Tollefson and Wynn

are good, but they just weren't that 3rd defensive end that could come in and take advantages of

certain matchups like Tuck did in 2007.

This team was the 1st year the team really belonged to Eli Manning too, once Strahan retired it

was Eli's team. Is this is what is to come, then I will take it every year.

I really wish the Giants would trade up to get Orakpo. A DE rotation with Tuck rotated with Kiwi and Osi rotated with Orakpo would form the best pass rush in the NFL for the next 5 years

He's a beast. I don't want to trade up for a position we're pretty strong at though.

Our priorities right now in no particular order: Gamebreaker at WR, speed at LB, pass rush specialist.

Why trade up for a position your already strong at?

Thats like us trading up to grab some QB in the first round to back up Eli.

We have much bigger priorities then our DL right now. We need a LB who can compliment Pierce along with a WR(pending the Plax situation) who can either be a solid #3 with game changing speed or some one who might take over the #1 place.

I think a O-line man also early on to start training to come in and take the place of someone when they start getting up in age.

Maybe a DL player in the fourth or fifth who is nothing but a pure pass rusher, but no DL inside the first four picks anyways.

One argument is.. we're not as strong as we once were when Ol' 92 was in the line up.. the whole "you can never have enough DE's" argument. Let's face it, Kiwi isn't the stud we thought he would be.. at least it didn't show in 2008 and Tuck was the long ranger out there.. eventually he too gets very tired.

Oh I understand we are still weak since Strah left. I mean he commanded double if not triple teams with the back over there for support as well and he still got pressure. This let our other pass rushers work their magic and get to the QB with ease.

I'm just saying that with the holes we have at LB and possibly WR(pending Plax) we have alot more concern then our D-line at the moment.

Sure it would be nice to get some pure pass rushing DE but I'm confident Resse might pick some guy up in the later rounds who is nothing but a pure pass rusher DE/DT/LB who will come in on passing situation.

No need to get hasty and start making stupid trades when we dont need to, I mean we arnt the Redskins here people :P

Orakpo can be as good as Osi thats why we need to get him. He's got way more size and strength than Kiwanuka who did a servicable job at DE with 8.5 sacks but is considered greatly undersized for the position. It is clear that a rotation of De's helped us win the superbowl in 2007 and with 2 guys backing up Osi and Tuck who could be starters on almost any team in the NFL that would be unheard of and bring our pass rush to an insane level.
