BlueInCanada
The good; Eli - Whatever arm strength program he used, he needs to stick with it, arm looks 5 years younger, was actually driving the ball down field when it was there. Barkley - Still MVP, guy breaks tackles like Guy breaks hearts. Engram - Played well and I think is the only playmaker on this team outside of Barkley. Oline (run game) - they got some push today, was nice to see. The bad; The rookies - HOLY FUCK growing pains are going to hurt. Dline (pass rush) - what pass rush? LBs (pass coverage) - what coverage? lol WRs not named Fowler - Who else is on this team? What contract did Shepard get? WE TRADED OBJ?!?!??!? The Eli; Shurmur - called some good drives, made some head scratchers at other times. Bettcher - You either need to simplify this defense, or just blitz 99% of the time cause what you're doing aint working. Peppers and Bethea - Were either of these guys on the field? I guess it's a good things their names werent called but Peppers was expected to be a play maker and Bethea is supposed to be "THE FIELD GENERAL" out there. What I take from this game; Cowboys are playoff ready, the Giants are not. Some good and improvements from last year, but still a bunch of the same. Storm
Other than Jones rookie mistake, no turnovers.
mastershake
The secondary, CBs in particular, will have the most growing pains, especially off a nonexistent pass rush. Sterling Shepard can be a playmaker as well if we give him the chance and the refs don't allow him to be tackled without a flag.
mastershake
Reposting this exchange back in April between where Kim Jones owns Giants GM Dave Gettelemen. Makes even more sense now: Jones: So Dexter Lawrence had four sacks over the last two years... Gettleman: yeah, he was playing injured on an injured foot. Jones: But you think that was a good pick with... Gettleman:look Kimberly, pass rush... it's not all numbers. You have a DE come screaming off edge, a guy steps up and completes the pass. You get a DT with a push and suddenly the DE comes screaming off the edge... there's nowhere to go. Jones: And what DE on this roster is going to be "screaming off the edge?" Oh I'm actually one of Shepards biggest fans, I love the extension and fully think he can be a weapon on the outside. He just needs to show it. One play shouldn't shut you down the entire game. BlueInCanada
Which long passes? The two we tried after that drive? 43 yard pass to Latimore, happened a drive or two later, when the game was still realistically close and they couldn't just drop everyone onto coverage. BlueInCanada
It did not. Check the play by play log. The Shepard tackle/grounding play happened in the first quarter. The Fowler long gain was in the third quarter. It was three drives later, sorry not two lol Oh also there were a couple 20 yard+ passes in there as well to other WRs before the fourth quarter when the Cowboys defence decided to just abandon the run and play the pass. mastershake
Are we talking about the play where Shepherd was tackled in the endzone, and there was no call? Where the refs proclaimed no illegal contact because the QB was out of the pocket. That's what I was talking about.
BlueInCanada
Oh one more thing to the list. Baker. I know he's a rookie but he looked slow as hell, I hope it's the hamstring injury he was dealing with cause if not, he doesnt have the speed to play in the NFL and it's only been one game. Gallop had five strides on him every time.
BlueInCanada
Also; Barkley (spends the entire training camp with the team) - 15 carries. Elliot (spends the entire training camp in Cabo) - 14 carries. lol Shurmur.
Iceman_NYG
Eli is playing well....dont see any reason why Jones should have a look-in right now if the defense is going to be this bad. Shurmur's dink dunk scheme works only with a strong Running game and a good defense. We have one of those. If the defense is this shitty, Giants OC needs to call a diffferent type of game. We cant keep going with this jimmy jammies shit all game.

CrazedDogs
Have to agree with the comment on Baker, he looks like he doesn't have a step to give. The big problems I noticed on D though.... the depth was getting picked on. Hamilton was getting picked on. You could call it up front, find #30, then just watch - they were going at him hard. I've seen enough of him, bring on Ballantine. Might be more rookie mistakes, but at least he has the potential to physically stack up on the field, because Hamilton just can't. And Ogletree, there were several blown coverages where I can't be positive, but it sure looked to me like Ogletree was supposed to bail into a deep middle third zone (tampa 2!), and instead got caught with his eyes up. The bright side I guess, if there is one, most of the defensive issues were about communication (Ogletree, or whoever was supposed to be back there....) and experience (Baker giving up the sideline --- narrower hashes in the NFL than college bro!). And where the players just weren't good enough (Hamilton), there may be other, better options on the bench (Ballantine, Grant Haley).

The players need to learn the D better, the coaches need to break down the film, see what the Cowboys were targeting and find a way to fix it... you know first thing that the Bills are going to do this Sunday will be get it to Beasly across the middle

UK-Giantsfan
On the plus side. The Cowboys are a top 5 Offense in my opinion and we wont see that quality in week 2-4 against Bills , Buccs , Skins. It might give us some time to gel and learn from our mistakes. ( even in 2007 we gave up 80 pts in the first 2 weeks )

I don't blame him for all the missed assignments in the secondary though. They had what, 3 or 4 wide-open TDs? That's squarely on the coaches, get your fucking team ready. I'm so sick of the Giants playing like a highschool team in week 1.
Treehugger
Also, why they fuck can't we score? 470 yards of offense and only 17 points? The Cowboys only had 24 more yards than us. Always the same shit.
Nas
The good was def Barkley... why we didn't keep running the ball was a head scratcher for me... The bad was our D: Holy fuck they couldn't get off the field... and that drive that felt like it went on for hours was the killer... I can take solace that our CBs are young and learning but holy fuck can we get a DE who can get a sack once in a while...

Always the same shit. They were 2-4 red zone and passed up a field goal for a failed 4th down conversion. So technically, if the defense had shown up, they would have put up 20. Not setting the world on fire but enough to win or at least remain within striking distance with an even competent defense. 20 would have been enough to beat 10 or so teams this week.
