Nas
I'm fucking psyched.. I don't want football to end... Doesn't free agency begin March 13th or something? At any rate who's out there that the Giants can get? Is Mario Williams available? Could he be in blue should Osi find another team? I'm just wondering who out there than can be a game changer for us.. say a MLB in the mold of Patrick Willis (wouldn't mind taking him from the 9ers as they're a force for years to come). So my fellow sportswrathians and particularly the 3-headed info-bank in BB25, Fish, and Jim... help a brother out
Mr. P
absolutely no chance mario williams becomes a giant.
osi724dasack
As much as I'd love to add Mario, it's not happening. Dude will get $80 million that we don't have to spend. I hope Osi stays another year and hopefully we get a high potential youngster to take Tollys job so he can be groomed for the 3rd and longs. Maybe Sintim makes a miracle comeback as a DE. Allstarjim
Remember, free agency isn't the way this team is built. They fill holes with free agency, but the core group is through the draft. Mario Williams makes no sense at all. Yes this is his free agency year, but we just have our own Mario Williams in JPP, there is no way they'll break the bank for him. Tuck and JPP is the duo for 2012 and hopefully for a lot longer. A mid-level TE, and probably an offensive lineman who can start in a pinch. Maybe Reese makes a bit of a splash with a starting RT talent. But I won't expect any sexy signings. But the injuries to Ballard and Beckum make TE a necessity, other than that, there will be plenty of moves, but most of those will probably be re-signing our own players or filling out the roster with quality backups. And I expect most of that to be done in the summer, during the second free agency period. We also don't have a ton of money under the cap.

TrashTalker92
I would like this team to remain the way it is. We actually don't need any type of addition from FA. We need to sign our own guys back. TT and Osi. Then you have LB that went down during the earlier season. Goff, Sintim and the other 3 LB that we got are young and I think Reese will wait it out. We still got some young O-line guys to work out. Other than that I'm hyped on the draft. Who you guys think we will target? Another WR to replace Mario in case he leaves. osi724dasack
There's a lot of work to do this F/A just because we have 22 UFAs!!!! Plus guys like Nicks, Phillips, And Cruz need new deals soon, so cap management is huge. Via draft id go offensive playmaker in round 1 and get either Sannu from Rutgers at WR or Lamar Miller from The U at RB. Unless there's a BPA at OL or on D. I definately do NOT want to see a TE drafted in round 1 unless it's likely to be the next Gronk or Graham.

TrashTalker92
I actually really think that Nicks should get paid first. As in pay him this offseason. They BOTH need to get paid this offseason. Cruz is just as valuable as Nicks right now. We def need to draft another RB and some Line guys. But other than that TT & Osi is most important. Treehugger
I bet Nicks' agent won't want to sign anything until they see how much Cruz is getting. This could take a while.

Osi is under contract for 2012 at nearly $4 million. I don't see a reason for him to complain, and I expect at that price he should be a Giant next year. He may try to hold out again but even if he does, Reese won't bend. He's getting a good salary and quite honestly, there are several other Giants that deserve more money that are way more underpaid than Osi. Dave Tollefson is a free agent. I hope Reese can bring him back, but if he can get some good money elsewhere than he should go. But he is a valuable reserve. Honestly, with our cap situation the way it is and the cap likely to remain flat, there's not a ton of wiggle room. I expect that some guys we all would like to see stay will be gone, like Aaron Ross, and Mario Manningham. McKenzie is pretty much a sure thing to be elsewhere. Here are our free agents, with predictions of who I think will be retained in parenthesis: Stacy Andrews Rocky Bernard (I think will earn more money somewhere else) Chase Blackburn (earned the right to compete for the starting MLB spot next year) Will Blackmon David Carr (He'll be back on a similar deal to 2011) Michael Clayton Michael Coe (I expect Reese to bring him back... could be a valuable reserve next year) Jonathan Goff (was revealing big potential prior to his injury before week 1) Deon Grant (on the fence with this one, could go either way, but vet minimum is the most he'll get from NY) Domenik Hixon (career may be over, but days in Blue almost certainly over) Bruce Johnson Jimmy Kennedy Mario Manningham (SB hero gets big $$$ elsewhere for 2012... Tampa Bay?) Derrick Martin (improved over the course of the year, became valuable ST'er... could be back for minimum) Kareem McKenzie (Can't afford to pay an aging RT showing signs of decline) Aaron Ross (cap casualty... probably can get more elsewhere than what the Giants can afford) Devin Thomas (expect a short term deal on the cheap as Thomas continues career rehab with a winner) Terrell Thomas (Yes, please. Likely a 1 year deal that will let him re-establish his worth) Dave Tollefson (I hope he returns. Unless he gets a big opportunity somewhere else he could be back.) Justin Tryon (flip a coin, could be camp fodder even if he's offered a contract) Tony Ugoh (should be retained if price is right to compete for a spot in camp next year) Steve Weatherford (deal finalized yet?) Restricted/Exclusive Rights: Jake Ballard Bear Pascoe (should be offered a contract before the draft)
Allstarjim
Nicks is under contract for 2012 and 2013. He also got a $6.5 million signing bonus in 2009. I don't expect any extension talk out of him before the conclusion of the 2012 season. He does not need to get paid this offseason. Cruz is entering the final year of his deal, in which he will be paid $490K with no signing bonus given. They will probably do something for Cruz this offseason and he deserves it. But talks about Nicks are premature. He's playing like a first rounder and was given first round money. The time will come when he will get paid a bigger deal but that time is not this offseason. Phillips is under contract for 2012 as well, the last year of his deal. I don't see any reason the Giants will rush contract extension talks with him, either. With his injury history there is no incentive to talk deal before his current one expires. Phillips is scheduled to make $2.08 million in 2012. I would be far less shocked to see him cut this offseason than if he got a new deal at this point. Not that I want to see that happen, I want KP back, but he isn't getting a new contract right now. NightFire
I think Manningham, Ross and Goff may not be back. As previously stated the Giants are on a thin edge cap wise so they will have to be prudent. For a player cut I could see Jacobs going. Clearly the Giants are favouring Bradshaw and it will be hard to justify his contract unless re-worked. I like Jacobs’ intensity but he is getting paid starter money while not be used as such. BIGBLUE01
absolutely no chance mario williams becomes a giant. Agreed. And even if we could make the deal work, dont know if Id want another DE, instead of a more pressing need. I mean, get a real good LB, and move Kiwi back to DE. I undertsand the "never can have too many pass rushers" thing, but even w/o Osi, we are still stacked at the position. Get a LB, TE or maybe even antoher RB is Jacobs doesnt stay (which I fully believe he wont) and draft Oline and whatever we dont get via FA. Agreed, I mean, if another DE is drafted in the first this year, by the time he pans out (if he pans out) we'd just be worrying about having to resign a guy like Justin Tuck or JPP, anyway...and we'd be in the same exact position. You can't always have 4 starting quality DEs (counting Kiwanuka....5 if you count Tollefson which I am inclined to do so, he's a good player)....
