WR - The final 6

As Manningham, Toomer, Smith, Plax and Hixon (based on camp so far) seem to be locks to make 5 out of the 6 spots, who makes the 6th (London, Hall, Moss, Tyree, Jennings)? I know Moss made a play or two the other night but this kid is useless in my opinion and won't bring anything once the season begins. Its hard for me to say cut the superbowl hero but Tyree is injured and DJ Hall is unproven and I believe Jennings can make some plays. I know he is a longshot but who would you want our 6th to be? Who do you THINK the 6th will be as well.?

With the injuries they have been working through at least one WR will start the season on the PUP list.

I'm expecting Darcy Johnson to go back to the practice squad and be joined by either London or Hall. The team will carry only two TEs and carry an extra WR. With so much young receiving talent they will want to keep as much around, especially to fill in for Shockeys lost production.

You left out Craphonso Thorpe in the mix and he's having a great showing in camp.

I don't think any position goes through more injuries than WR. I think your first 5 are right on the money. But here's what I'm hoping. Hixon gets kept as a ST specialist (KR, PR, etc.) freeing up 2 spots on the roster instead of 1 for WR. That is my hope anyway.

My thinking is that London has proven he deserves a spot on the roster and I believe Moss will get a spot simply because of the Giants investment in him. That leaves Tyree, Thorpe and Hall. Tyree gets protected by being put on the PUP and Hall or Thorpe goes to the practice squad. I really like Hall and am rooting for him, but I think Thorpe is ahead of Hall because he has 3 years of NFL experience.

I think Jennings has seen his last hurrah with the Giants. When the Giants were short of recievers, Jennings was worth the risk. We are no longer short on receivers though and although he's a speedy little fucker, he doesn't exactly have fly-paper hands.

We'll end up cutting a couple of good WR's and within a couple of weeks (due to injuries), we will be scouring the waiver line and other teams' practice squads for replacements. And that's the bummer of it all.

we still have to give Moss 1 healthy season to prove himself ....after all we traded up in the 2nd round in 2006 for him ....and i still believe that he can be a very effective WR in this league

Not to mention use him as the slot-burner WR he was supposed to be. As in not WR screen him or send him on an end around every time he's on the field. Teams know exactly what is going to happen when we put Moss on the field. Send the dude out on a route and see how much he'll improve.

And it will be Burress, Toomer, Steve Smith, Moss, Tyree, and Manningham.

I agree with the total of seven receivers being Burress, Toomer, Steve Smith, Londn, Moss, Tyree, and Manningham.

London has proved his worth both as a WR and as a ST.

Tyree could be placed on IR for now and can be brought back at a later date, which could also free up another spot.

I really wanna see what Jennings can do. I dont know why, I havent seen a whole lot of him. But he is a speedy little fuck and made a nice diving catch in last years preseason game before gettin injured. Not a lot to go on, but he seems to have a good attitude and some talent.

A major part of investing is knowing when to cut your losses. This kid has displayed no decernable football instincts what-so-ever. He's afraid of contact for cryin' out loud. All his supposed "speed" and "shiftiness" couldn't beat out McQuarters for punt returns even. I seriously wonder what anyone sees in him.

Has he ever really had a chance to play? I mean really have we given the kid a shot at WR? I mean I think in total he's been on the field what? 20 times? All this "oh he's afraid of contact" talk too, really it comes from that one play where he ran backwards....so what he was trying to make a play. It's like saying "Oh Barry Sanders didn't like to get hit or have any football instincts because he ran back from the line of scrimmage" The kid has speed and is a burner and has shown it, we just have never given him a chance impress. He will be on this roster this season and even next like it or not, the coaches like the kid and really I'll take a coaches opinion over anyone on the interweb.

It was more than just one play Blue. I'd gotten that impression from him before the infamous backwards-running play. Again the 'burner' tag yet why no returning duties? Why no downfield routes? Can he catch? I highly doubt his playtime has been this limited if not for some serious flaws in his game.

And comparing Moss to Sanders is just criminal no matter what the context. Shame on you. :P

I think Moss makes the team, but it is do or die this year as WR will have more of a role in the O this year.

He will need to catch at least 40 and play ST.

I doubt Moss makes the team. But I must admit, I'm pretty excited we're having this kind of problem. Remember when Chris Calloway was our leading reciever? (No BIGBLUE01, he didn't play TE :P ).

Really then why did Tyree show more than this so called burner. This team desperately needed a fast receiver last year with Buress' ankle issues but Moss was still absent. I don't see what shot he needs to suddenly show up.

THANK YOU! Very nicely said.

You give a young, 2nd round draft pick a chance to succeed in an injury-free season, in a what should be an explosive, downfield pass game. You don't "cut your losses'' for your choice of 4th round+/undrafted free agents when you have 2nd round talent.

He's rarely been injury free, I'm sure they didn't want to put him back there while he was healing.

I'm o the pro Moss bandwagon for now. I can't recall him being sent downfield much, the only plays that come to mind are screens, something a shifty/speedy receiver should excell at no doubt, but hardly something to base his total worth on. RW, if I remember correctly, got the PR duties for ball security reasons, not because of talent reasons.

Moss has been in the league, what, 2 years? Injured half that? Let him get a chance to play in normal passing downs instead of screens and other gimmick plays, and yes, a screen is a gimmick. Let him run routes and throw the ball at him and see what happens. As much as it pains me to say this, I'd rather keep Moss based on his potential than Tyree based on what he has shown, if it comes down to one or the other.

lol...yeah, counting kick returns I've seen Moss retreat from the D on probably 10 or more occasions. And even when he doesn't run backwards or sideways, he seems to lay down when contact comes close. He's got to learn to explode through contact, he's a powerful guy for his size. Its like he's sort of intimidated though.

He's sounded better this camp than he ever has though, even if he can only run a couple simple patterns effectively.

The difference is, the Giants for as long as I can remember, have been no good at running WR screens and end arounds. You don't tell a smash mouth offensive line and your other speedy/possession WRs to go out and block for a downfield pass when your offensive is based around running the ball and possession pass plays.

And btw, why do people think Hixon will actually make this team ahead of Sinorice Moss? That's ludicrous.

It seems that Manningham is disappointing in camp. I read an article on it, on yahoo, I think. But its saying that he keeps getting injured and hasnt really shown what he's capable of. We're still goin off what we PREDICT he can do. Anything change on that matter?
