Spagnuolo has presided over two of the worst defenses in NFL history. His tenure as head coach of the Rams was a disaster too. I'm not putting all of that on him. The Saints and Giants had bad personnel those years and the Rams were a mess at the time but you'd like to think his ability as a coach would shine through and make things a little better than they were. I've heard and read he runs a complex scheme so maybe that's why you see so many highs and lows. If it's clicking it looks awesome, like our '07 run and the last couple of months to close out last season but there's been a lot of really rough patches when you look at the entire body of work. I'm not against him staying but if he doesn't it won't bother me. He isn't Dick Lebeau or Wade Phillips.

This has to be it, right? I don't like saying someone should lose their job they're people just like us but it's past time. Special teams has never been a strength and the roster is table scraps but three blocked kicks in a game can't happen when you actually show up against a good team and that winds up being the difference. I'm tired of watching other teams find kickers off the street that blast 50 yard field goals where anything over 45 for the Giants I have no confidence. We haven't had a punter worth a damn since Feagles and the return game has never been good. I know a lot of that falls at the feet of Reese but if we're making wholesale changes please make sure he leaves too.

Nicks will have a nice year in Indy if he can stay healthy. Potentially a very big one depending how Wayne comes back from injury. I hope he does. Despite how the last two years went we owe our second Super Bowl in large part to him.

Hopefully Hankins will be ready to start contributing. If letting Joseph walk allows for a signing of Dietrich-Smith or another big o-lineman I'm more than ok with it.

Yeah, seems like a lot of money. I guess we'd have to see the details of the contract though in terms of what's guaranteed. He had 8.5 sacks combined the two years prior in what I'm assuming was a limited role so at least he can get to the qb a little bit

I think getting Eli back to playing good football is more of a priority right now.

yeah, it's nothing personal. Nicks has had a successful tenure here and we don't win the Super Bowl without him but we're one of the worst teams in the league now with numerous holes to fill and having Randle ready to ascend makes Nicks a luxury more than a necessity at this point. He'll get paid well by somebody still extremely young and he's a better all around receiver than Wallace, who's getting 10 million per.

Yeah, I was wondering what the hell Mike Mayock was talking about when he said the second pick was Randle's fault. Was he supposed to sit down where Jennings was? You're right on the first one as well. Maybe they need to simplify things a little bit until Eli can get it together because that was a very winnable game last night where I thought just about everybody made some meaningful contributions.

We need to take the best tackle available. If that includes trading out of our pick because we can get the guy we want a few picks later even better but we won't be competitive again until we fix the offensive line or at least attempt to.

Agreed. It's definitely at that point now. Winning the first quarter on Sunday would be a start. I don't think they've even accomplished that yet this season. I really need to see a win, especially against the Eagles at home. This is my Super Bowl until further notice.

Yeah, me too. Played college ball there and with Smith near the end it's a really sensible fit. As for Beason, it seems like we're just throwing shit against the wall and hoping it sticks at this point. Hopefully they come in with a real plan at the position for next season because this patchwork effort we have now isn't going to cut it anymore without a pass rush.

I think he's a luxury at this point and with what we're dealing with, one we probably can't afford. I think a team like Carolina with Smith getting older could offer more than we're capable of giving him. We'll see though we may have more cap room than we expect. I'm going to be watching these games now to see who still gives a fuck and who doesn't and Coughlin and Reese are probably doing the same.

Oh it's definitely a personnel issue. Our talent stinks. But not making the playoffs in what will be 4 out of the last 5 seasons i'd think they're going to make some changes even if they're superficial.

If this season ends the way we're all expecting I can't envision a scenario where Gilbride or Fewell come back, Coughlin or not. Coughlin has earned the right to go out on his own terms and Reese will get the chance to try and fix this but it would be a near impossible sell to bring the coordinators back the way things are going.

His entire 2011 start to finish was pretty incredible, really. He's having a horrible season though. It's clear he's not getting any help whatsoever from his line and outside of Cruz the play of the wide receivers and tight ends has been spotty but he's not making things any easier on himself. No one is writing him off and the team will certainly give it another go and try to rebuild this thing around him but he's playing like shit right now.

If you can get a decent pick for Nicks from a team needing help you'd have to consider it. Its not anything against him. It's where we're at right now and the likelihood of re-signing him. Too many holes and we can make do with just Cruz and Randle.

I remember after the first championship the following season teams began to employ three step drops and quick routes to help neutralize our pass rush. I'd hope after last week Coughlin, Gilbride and the rest of the staff recognize that we can't run our offense right now. We have a quarterback and great receivers they need to find a way to get something going.

I think we definitely need defensive ends. Tuck is on his farewell tour and while Pierre-Paul isn't 100% and probably wouldn't be playing right now if we had the luxury to do that, he still has a lot to prove in order for the team to commit to him beyond 2014.

Yeah, this will be a long season and one hell of a long offseason. Reese has his work cut out for him. To make matters worse we don't exactly have a good cap situation. It will definitely be an audition for a lot of these guys. Also, I know this is a bit premature but I think we can forget about re-signing Nicks. There is no possible way we can commit that much money to two receivers with the amount of holes this team has.

He ran hard, and for a speed guy he was finishing his runs with good power toward the end. He's going to be a difference maker. We might not see it this year with our clusterfuck of a line but it will happen for him.

Yep. Window is closed on this group and it's time for a rebuild. It happens. Pittsburgh is going through the same exact thing and their recent run of sustained success mirrors ours pretty closely. Hopefully we see some development from the players who will be staying but it's not going to be fun.

Agreed. The defense stinks, but I kinda knew that coming into the season so my expectations were low to begin with. I did expect the offense to be productive. The only thing this team has right now is some flashy receivers and a back with potential and that doesn't mean shit if you can't get them the ball. We're looking at a near total rebuild and save for a few I'm not penciling in anyone beyond this season unless things change.
