Return Specialist Josh Cribbs considering signing with the Giants

I'd take him cheap. Dude is a good return man.

I'd prefer a DT who isn't 54 years old but still has some experience to pair with Linval Joseph, not going to happen, either.

Maybe we'll find an undrafted free agent, or after some cuts are made a good returner will become available. I just know that after watching Wilson, I don't want to go backwards with the return game. We were actually getting good field position for a change last season. I'd like to have a guy who's actually a threat back there. If a seldom used Scott or Jernigan can fill the void great, at least we'd be getting some use out of them.

There's the fact that Cribbs is also a better receiver than Jernigan as well. I mean, it's not a very high bar.

Storm seems to act like signing cribbs automatically earns him a roster spot; it doesn't. I'd like to have as many players as possible competing for every single position.

From BBI this morning:

Giants Hoping WR Jerrel Jernigan Steps It Up: The Giants have made it clear that it is time for WR Jerrel Jernigan to begin making plays. Jernigan was drafted by the Giants in the 3rd round of the 2011 NFL Draft, but he has only caught three passes for 22 yards in his first two years in the NFL.

The Giants envision Jernigan as a weapon out of the slot position.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Jerrel Jernigan and what he can do inside," said Offensive Coordinator Kevin Gilbride last Friday. "I think it's about time that he steps up and I think we feel he has enough ability and he's been here long enough now. Until Victor (Cruz) gets back, he'll be the main guy inside at the slot position. It's a chance for him to shine and step forward and do the things that we believe he can do…really it's JJ inside…It's going to be a great opportunity for him."

"Hopefully Victor is back very soon and will play at a high level," said QB Eli Manning yesterday. "Jerrel's also got to be able to help us. He has speed, he has skills, been in the system now a number of years so hopefully he can step up and fill a role for us. The more talented guys you have on the team able to make plays for you the better off you'll be."

I have to believe Jernigan has to make a pretty sizable splash in camp and in preseason or he's gone.

Eh, the Jernigan news is a ploy to get Cruz back in the fold. Jernigan hasn't proven shit with the opportunities he's been given.

I don't think it's that... yes part of it maybe.. but JJ now has a chance to prove he was worth the 3rd round spot...

Yeah, when you're down the depth chart with guys who are proven and you don't get any chances, that tends to happen. We even saw it when Barden lit the world on fire and never got another opportunity ever.

I don't think that at all, I think it's a waste of time and hamstrings the players we currently have for no reason other than to spin the wheels of a guy who sucks at everything but running straight. And it's not like bringing in Cribbs fixes our broken special teams coverage and blocking. So unless you think he can make something out of nothing on every kick, the Giants are better off taking knees.

Barden had that one big game and it looked like he was on his way. I think the reason he never panned out was because unless you are one of the starting WR's, you better be stellar on special teams. Barden wasn't. Backup WR's absolutely have to produce on ST to stay on the team.

No, he won't be. He was a 3rd round draft pick 2 years ago. I'd see a guy like Louis Murphy being cut before a guy who knows the system.

The main issue with assumptions like this is we have no clue how many times he screwed up. Cruz has a break out game and wasn't buried in the depth chart. It's very possible that Barden makes major mistakes multiple times a game.

Not to mention there's practice... the knock against Barden is he plays small despite his size. Yea he had a good game when Nicks was out... would he command double teams like Nicks or Cruz?

I'm freinds with ol' cribby (that's what i call him, Cribby). US Josh's have to stick together you know. N E Ways, we were hangin at Applebees the other noche and he said to me, he said "brownie, I have to go where the money is. NY is a great team, but theyre just plain old broke". i said cool, whatevs, let me get you a burger. I proceeded to kick him a burger from the kitchen, and damned if he didnt catch that thing square in his pie hole. I don't know if he's just that good, or my kicking is just that awesome.

ha, who am i kidding, my kick WAS just that awesome.
