  1. Somehow, after he signed with the Cards, he's turned into a younger Warren Sapp.
  2. You must smile a lot. I think this could be a revealing game, even if it is preseason. On paper, there's really no reason to think the Jets will win. We're a team with legitimate playoff aspirations, they will be shooting for respectability this year. We have better talent at every level, so we should be able to take the lead and hold it. We also have had a tendency to blow these games in the past. I don't think it unreasonable to think a win here, but not at the price of injuries.
  3. Wasn't he just getting off of injury that game? I don't mean to sound like an apologist for the guy, I just seem to recall he wasn't too healthy at the end of the season. I could just as well be wrong.
  4. funny thing: I don't think I've enjoyed watching Tiki run more than I have the last couple of years. Before then, I always had apprehension when he carried the ball. Now, I'm shocked if he fumbles.
  5. Oh, you were panicking man. I saw the sweat on your brow.
  6. Or, he could have peaked last season. He wasn't that much better than what we have now, and Cofield looks pretty good, albeit a rookie. Considering we've been doing ok in run defense with a bunch of makeshift DTs over the last couple of years, I don't think we need to panic yet.
  7. Unless you want to light a fire under some asses. But I wouldn't be surprised if EA will be checking the waiver wire very carefully in a few weeks.
  8. If he's going to keep one of those guys on the 53, I would think it would be Smith. With Pierce and Blackburn, we should be ok with ML. I'm not as comfortable with the outside linebackers.
  9. Just an FYI, Jackson signed with the Falcons.
  10. He's looked pretty good, and I've been having a tough time tempering my enthusiasm with the fact he's been playing against 3rd stringers. I hope he makes and stays on our Practice Squad. I'd like to see what he'd do against 1st/2nd stringers, though.
  11. I don't know if he's ever going to pan out, but keep in mind that he held out his first training camp, and then had the torn pec muscle the second. I'm not ecstatic with his play to date, but with this being in reality his second full training camp, you have to factor that he will take a little more time to develop than you would normally expect.
  12. I've heard there were trade rumors revolving around Chad Morton, but I just don't see it happening. He's more valuable to this team than his trade value would indicate, IMO. He proved his value last year, and from all accounts, he's actually improved this training camp. As much as I like Jennings on the field, losing Morton is too great a cost for keeping him.
  13. Holy crap! I just realized you're expecting Seattle not to make the playoffs! I thought you wanted the Cards as a wildcard. There's just no way Seattle's not making the playoffs. Curse of Superbowl losers or not. They haven't lost coaches. They didn't lose too many good players. Alexander's legs haven't been amputated. And they are playing SF and the Rams twice. Even if they split with the Cards, they are more than likely going 5-1 in the division.
  14. Mix looked pretty good the first preseason game, it looks like he might have some YAC ability. Did you catch this about a rumor about trading Morton? Interesting angle, but I don't know if I'd trade off Morton. He's shown himself as really dependable back there. But if we can get a good DT, I'd have to think about it. If nothing else, the next couple of weeks are going to be interesting.
  15. C'mon Icey, have a heart. That poor bastard was a street free agent we picked up a week or two before the game, and he's been nothing but remorseful since. It should never have come down to a field goal to begin with, and even the officiating blew the call on that play. To lay it all on that guy is just unfair, and it's already been over 3 years. Long snapper. Long snapper. Long snapper.
  16. We're really on the same page here. You won't hear any arguments from me about Plax and Toomer--in fact, I love Toomer in his new role. I'm just looking at Carter/Moss as a logjam at #3 wide receiver, with no developmental receiver. This team has been burned by Carter more than a few times injury-wise, but Moss isn't going to be ready at the start of the season at this point. And there's no way I'd even suggest bringing one in for Tyree, so sleep well. I would have been much happier if Moss didn't get the injury, beat out Carter, and there was a battle for #5 between Jennings and Mix. So much for ifs. Still don't see 5 DTs. Especially, as you say, with the talent in the DB. It seems like a concession to mediocrity to keep them all. If either Duckett or Seawright were showing any signs of improvement, I'd concede the point: as it stands now, I don't see any progression from last year. Oh and you took the easy way, Money. I asked you who you wanted to see in, not the no brainers. I figure Peprah and Underwood are in. I don't know if Walker did enough to stay on; and unless he's too important to ST, I think Deloatch might have worked his way off. I don't know enough about Harris and Bell to say either way, although I've heard they are good special teamers. Don't misunderstand my reference to Kuehl. He's done everything we've asked of him flawlessly. I just wish that our longsnapper had a bigger role in other aspects of the game. Not that I would want to live the nightmare of Kuehl on the defensive line, but you get the picture.
  17. This is why I hated resigning Carter--he is such a question mark, that you almost fear him making the roster because you lose a slot for a developmental player for a player who more often than not winds up on IR. This bunch feels almost like Carter/Taylor all over again with Moss--I know there's a difference between a quad and a knee, but so far the effect has been the same. I highly doubt 9 DLs. Unless you are thinking of Moore, and even there, between Tuck and Kiwi, I don't see it happening. I definitely don't think we're keeping 5 tackles, especially not the ones we have right now. Cofield definitely stays, Joseph and Robbins probably. The other two? Considering that the team has had both Jackson and Buckner in the last week or so pretty much tells you in what regard the coaches hold the tackles. This crew definitely can be replenished with street free agents, as it has in the past. The linebackers? Maybe. This crew is too unstable for my tastes, health-wise. You may be right here, but it wouldn't surprise me if Wilkinson replaces Emmons or Torbor on the roster (edit:I don't mean the depth chart). I'd like to see the kids McNiel and Smith reach our practice squad, too. Who do you have in mind for DBs? Not a rhetorical question, just curious. Ryan Kuehl would be an obvious cut if Ruegamer can long snap. I seem to recall he was doing some of that in camp early on, but I don't know what became of it.
  18. I doubt anyone expects probowl performances from Jennings, Ponder, or Mix. However, saying that they'd get as much production from a street free agent is an exaggeration. Mix is the only one eligible for the practice squad of these three, I believe, and Ponder would be snatched up by a weaker team for his return skills. Worst case scenario is Carter goes down again, Moss is unready or the quad hampers him all year, and you have Tyree as your 3rd WR--not exactly the downfield threat we were hoping for. Maybe the roster is tight this year--good. But I don't know if WR is where I would get the extra roster spot for Whimper.
  19. Oh yeah? My error. I think of their running game mostly. I don't think you can risk 5 WRs with this crew though. Still don't trust Carter to stay on the field, and Moss at this point won't be a factor until well into the season with all the time he missed--assuming that he gets back soon.
  20. Houston isn't making the playoffs. You're only hurting yourself believing that. Detroit, maybe, because they are in a real weak division. Plus I think Kitna is an upgrade. The Cards, who knows? If their line can block, they might have a scary offense, even with Warner.
  21. It sounded like there was a lot of promise shown last night (I only caught the last 10 minutes--philly fox stations showed it at midnight last night, and I didn't realize it until too late). But just as a reality check: Our wide receivers consist, after Plax and Toomer, of a guy with a track record of winding up on injured reserve, a second-rounder who has practiced 4 days out of the entire camp, and a guy more known for his amazing special teams play than his WR skills. I really don't get why people think we're only keeping 5 WRs. Our secondary has played pretty well so far in our preseason games, but keep in mind we have played two teams with offenses that are not known for their passing game. Although you could argue that with McNair in Bal'more, that may change. Our defensive tackles have had one good game, and one really bad game. Of course, a healthy Jamal Lewis will do that to an interior line, but at this point the best thing you say about them is that they are inconsistent. Our linebackers haven't shaken out yet. Emmons has yet to play the position in anger, and has not even consistantly appeared on the practice field. Arrington has played only sparingly in the last game, and certainly not enough for the unit to form cohesion. Frankly, on paper we seem really good there, but I wonder who will be our starters by the end of the season due to injuries. To me, this is the most schiz group of the lot, because they will either be scary to our opponents, or wind up being a scary situation to us. I hope I'm not sounding too Fab-Fourish, and I'm not saying that we're riding for a fall, but keep these things in mind before reserving those Superbowl tickets.
  22. No way this guy deserves to get in faster than Harry. His window of greatness was much smaller.
  23. Volek because he learned under McNair, and by all accounts, is a competent QB. Young just isn't ready yet, and unless they toss the whole season under a bus, then he's not the best choice. I picked Grossman because his problem isn't his ability, it's staying on the field. Griese has had his chances, and proven that he's a mediocrity. Kitna has some ability. He's shown he can be a starter in Cincinnati, but wasn't kept because they have Palmer. He's like the prototype for Drew Brees, where the light turns on for a QB, but the team has already given up on him and drafted a QB high.
  24. Week 1; Colts @ Giants: Eli makes good on opportunity to show up his big brother. He ends up being out for the following game due to an unfortunate post-game "super-mega tittie twister" incident. Giants win 24-17 Week 2; Giants @ Eagles: Playing in Philly is always tough, Emmons pulls a hamstring after slipping on a puddle of McNabb's "2-Minute Drill Secretions". Eagles win 27-10 Week 3; Giants @ Seahawks: Feely misses plane to Seattle. Seattle wins 17-14 Week 5; Redskins @ Giants: Season kicks into gear as Snee gets his first staph infection of the regular season. John Mara dies under mysterious circumstances earlier in the week. Tom Coughlin has a dubious alibi. Giants win 30-17 Week 6; Falcons @ Giants: Vick has a season-high 2 completions. Tim Carter spontaneously combusts. Falcons 17-14 Week 7; Giants @ Cowboys: Cowboys in a nail-biter. Team celebrates with Parcells by drowning TO in a bucket of Gatorade. Cowboys win 17-14 Week 8; Bucs @ Giants: Team takes field only after Coughlin explains that "Chucky is just his nickname." Emmons makes medical history by pulling a never before seen muscle. Giants win 20-14 Week 9; Texans @ Giants: This is just a bad team. Carr will be pressured to make alot of mistakes, like handing off to Reggie Bush. Snapping under stress, he gets promoted to the Texan front office. Giants win 30-17 Week 10; Bears @ Giants: The Bears will not be as good this year. 30 fans need emergency resusitation after nearly dying of boredom. Giants win 10-6 Week 11; Giants @ Jaguars:Byron Leftwich, having his annual leg injury ealier in the year, is carried during the game by Matt Jones. Jags win 27-10 Week 12; Giants @ Titans: Raven and Starfire catch everything Robin throws at them as they fly down the field; meanwhile Cyborg and BeastBoy (as a T-Rex) dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Oh, wait... Giants win 24-14 Week 13; Cowboys @ Giants: Bledsoe will be shown to not be an immobile QB, but an extremely mobile zombie. Emmons snaps in half. Giants win 20-10 Week 14; Giants @ Panthers: Brentson Buckner will return to the Panthers sidelines. Fortunately, Security will subdue him before anyone is hurt. Panthers win 21-7 Week 15; Eagles @ Giants: Things nearly get out of hand when Shockey tells Reid that the team is going to "eat Reid's lunch". Giants win 24-20 Week 16; Saints @ Giants: Giants are riding high, and face a not so good team. Out of habit, the rest of the NFC East complain about this being a home game. Giants win 42-24 Week 17; Giants @ Redskins: With the Mara and Tisch families in hiding, Giants win anyway. Giants win 30-17
