  1. Yeah, but he's not too bad a guy.
  2. I want Babatunde Oshinowo. Not because I know anything about him: but could you imagine the Announcer-Hell a line of Mathias Kiwanuka, Osi Umeniyora, and Babatunde Oshinowo would cause? Comedy Gold for years: My tongue's getting tied just by looking at their names! They could have a nickname like "The line whose names cannot be spoken."
  3. Don't know anything about the man. I don't pretend to know much about the college game, and simply hope Reese and co. did a good job scouting. I was quoting somebody.
  4. The plot thickens: 1) When last we heard of Eric Moore, he was learning to be an OLB. Has that now been deemed successful and that is why we need Mathias? Or is this simply a matter of replacing a 6th-rounder with a first rounder? 2) What is the fate of Willie Ponder? Or more importantly, what is the fate of that WR spot? Ponder has made the team strictly for his kick return skills, which no one else seemed to have at the time. Well, now every third player we've picked up has some degree of return skills, and Morton has been able to handle both duties. Ponder hasn't been on the field as a WR in how many years, and although he made the ProBowl as a returner, he didn't dress for half the games. Do we go with 6 or 5 WRs this year? If it's 5, does Moore stick; and does the WR corp look like Plax, Toomer, Moss, Tyree, and choice of Carter/Taylor? 3) Our linebackers. Who is going where? We seem to have Wilkerson and Short who can back up middle and outside positions and Emmons, Torbor, Arrington, and Blackburn. Is Blackburn out due to his neck, or is Emmons out because of his cap hit? These and other questions to be answered by the end of August.
  5. Plax, Wrote this on another thread. Pretty much my opinion on this. I don't think he's really a first rounder, and I doubt he's around for our second round pick. Eric Moore was drafted as a defensive end. I don't know how he'd do on the inside. They already were trying him as a LB.
  6. There is simply nothing to dislike about this deal.
  7. That shorts us a little. It would be a shame if this got back to the Jets, and a bidding war started.
  8. I don't know about "likely event," but I do agree with you on picking another LB or two. I've kind of warmed up to Short as a backup, as he plays two positions, and I'm not too convinced about our backup MLB, especially after the injury he received. I'd still like to go with Carpenter, not to necessarily play this year, but to groom. He has played both SLB and WLB in his career, so he has some versatility, something Torbor doesn't. If Torbor beats Emmons, and unless there's a paycut in Carlos' future, I don't see him here by the season opener. So there would still be room for another backup LB.
  9. I don't think I'd even bother drafting WR this year. From everything I've read, we aren't going to find some sensation this year, especially at our draft position. We have the same WR corps as last year, so it's not like we're desperately filling holes (although re-signing Carter might fall into that category). Toomer showed he can still make some great plays last year, hopefully Taylor finally has a healthy season, and Tyree isn't going anywhere. That leaves Carter's spot, and Ponder (low man on the totem pole). Sign a slew of UDFAs, and see if they can beat these two. Ponder is a one-trick pony, so if we can get someone who can return and (god forbid! ) run routes and catch the ball occasionally, we've upgraded about as well as can be done with this class. Why waste a pick on someone with whom we really won't be satisfied? I'd rather see an OT on the first day, and an additional DT on the second, assuming a worthwhile one is still available.
  10. His potential earnings in a year is 5 million--and that includes having to make the Probowl. His base is 3.5. Barret Green was making ~2 million? It's not going to be too hard to be an upgrade over Green--just stay on the field. And even if he isn't an upgrade over Griesen, which I think he is, we're not going to have to sit there and deal with a long contract before fixing the problem. Quite frankly, this defense doesn't really need him to be LT. We just need him to stay on the field, and play at a level he's played at before, which has been better than Griesen. But of course, if he can play at a level close to LT, I don't think I'd be upset.
  11. With this offseason being as bizarre as it has been, I wouldn't rule out anything.
  12. It has to be more than that. He's in his last year, so it has to include an extension.
  13. Aren't we trying to resign O'Hara? I could of sworn I read that somewhere...
  14. Plax, I apologize. But being jazzed at getting LA with a fantastic contract, and coming here to see a 6-page circle-jerk based on a troll thread by an eagles fan, EA still getting bashed anyway, and now this, I'm a leetle beet frustrated.
  15. What a fascinating, inspired insight. Have you ever posted this opinion before?
  16. Agreed. Those guys over at ExtremeSkins must be soiling themselves..
  17. I would still rather trade down, but at least the TV would be intact if we draft Williams.
  18. OK, with Levar signing, I won't disagree as vehemently as I have. I'd still prefer a trade down, but wouldn't mind keeping Williams. Gotta be flexible with new circumstances.
  19. We've gotten more high-quality FA's under Coughlin than the entire time Fassel AND Reeves were here.
  20. An incentive-based contract is a good thing. At least if he earns the cap hit, we smile handing over the check.
  21. I'm not going to argue about Larry Johnson's ability, obviously he's talented. He's also running behind one of the best offensive lines in the league. Where Johnson's ability stops, and the O-line's ability starts, I have no idea--but KC did do a good job transitioning from Priest Holmes by getting a guy capable of taking advantage of their line. ---Warning: even more off-topic than our discussion has already been --- I would, given the choice, have a great O-line than a great RB. Why? An average RB, or RB tandem, will look good behind a great O-line. You need an exceptional RB to look good behind a mediocre/bad O-line. If Luke "Twitchy" Petitgout could learn to start when everyone else does, we have a good line. ------------------------------------- If Barber were to (god forbid!) go down, would it hurt our running game? Of course, he's one of the best in the game right now, that's why he's 40% of our offense, and that's why he gets his money. But while there would be a significant dropoff, I don't think our running game would become useless. It will still get the job done, but not to such a spectacular degree. This is where you and I disagree. Unfortunately, as things stand today, we are in pretty bad shape when it comes to our defense. We still don't have a starter or a backup for WLB, unless we start talking about Emmons, and I don't think too many people here want that. We've done pretty well with a DT rotation, but now we're down two DTs. We have a CB that may or may not see the field again. And we have 6 picks. Maybe Duckett and Seawright are good enough in rotation, and we just need a backup. Maybe Arrington does sign, and plays at a level that helps. Maybe our secondary is set as it currently stands. Maybe not. But we're also drafting late in each round, so there's no garrentee that a player in these positions is going to be available, or that he's going to pan out. So I don't feel comfortable drafting just one player in these positions, particularly as things stand now. So, this is why, in this particular draft, in this particular scenario, I would trade down for more picks. Particularly if we could do so by keeping in the first round, and getting a second.
