  1. Ross isn't playing. Hope to hell Johnson does, because Brown is scary right now.
  2. Two things - Didn't know Evans had been released by Tampa, either. Very surprised A) he was released, B) the Giants haven't scooped him up. Also, how long before Jack says Gartrell is better than Jacobs?
  3. Guys, did ANYBODY see my post from earlier today????? Posted Today, 11:30 AM Can't believe this thread has gone so long without somebody posting this - From the transcript of Coughlan's press conference, which can be found on the Giants website: Q: RE: The faked field goal. A: It was an all-out block. Q: From that side. A: As it turned out it was. But that is my call. That is my call. Put that one on me. It is not on the players. There are a lot bigger issues facing us this week in Dallas. Lets move on.

  5. Let me guess - that's a Mensa meeting?
  6. Actually, I don't think Boley will start this week. He's had very few reps with the first unit - or any unit - so look for him to come off the bench and his playing time to steadily increase over the next few weeks, as he picks up on his assignments. I see him replacing the immortal Blackburn in the starting line up by week 4, latest.
  7. I'm sure this will be a massive relief to him! Poor guy probably hasn't been able to sleep, with all the stress of having to prove himself to Jack. Well, that's one major hurdle cleared!

    A win

It's a win against a divisional rival and I'll take it. BUT, we still find a way to dominate the game without reaping the rewards on the scoreboard! Much of it can be traced to our God-awful short yardage plays. If we could convert 3rd & 1, 4th & 1 (or less), this game could have been broken open early. In the 1st Qtr, we marched up and down the field, while the Redskins ran a total of 6 plays and except for the first Portis run, went nowhere and we only led 3-0. Sooner or later, a team is going to figure a way to move the ball or a fluke play will occur and suddenly, you're trailing a game you're dominating. That's what will happen against better teams if we don't start to cash in in the red zone.
  9. Wow! I guess I was watching a different game! That was great smashmouth trench warfare! I was very impressed with Tenn going in there and not being the least bit intimidated, even taking it to them physically for much of the game. As a Giant fan you have to appreciate a game like that. Or maybe I'm just so happy to see football again, I'm easily satisfied.....but I enjoyed the hell out of that game!
  10. I'll be happy with a win. We just don't look as ready as we should for the opener. Too much is in flux - the new receivers still figuring out roles, Hixon & Smith still learning. The movable parts of the DL didn't get a chance to try different looks and begin to mesh due to the injuries, so that still has to happen. Boley out most of camp, still figuring out who's doing what at LB. I get the feeling this team might start a little slow but begin to hit their stride as the season wears on. I can see a 2007 kind of season, when everyone writes them off, not realizing they were still a work in progress.
  11. Boss, after Jacobs gets stonewalled a few times, from in close.
  12. Giants, 16-7 I think points will be tough to come by. Eli goes something like 15-25, 200, 1 TD, 1 Int Jacobs rushes 19 times for 87 yards, about the same as Portis...but Bradshaw adds 11 carries for 50 yards Hixon & Smith each catch 4 balls, Hixon for 79 yards, Smith for 55. Boss gets 3 for 27 yards and the only TD. Jacobs 2 for 10, Manningham 1 for 11, Nicks 1 for 16. I see us moving the ball well in spurts but finding Haynsworth, Inc tough to deal with on 3rd downs and in the red zone and settling for some 3's. We're not hitting on all cylinders yet offensively.
  13. You might want to see if the Sheraton is opening their lot on Sunday. If they don't have a lot of weddings, etc, they do that. $25 and you have to walk up an embankment and over the overpass but you get out much easier than in the main lot. I actually prefer it to the main lot.
  14. Maybe Moss improved his value so we can package him with a #3 for Marshall????
  15. Manningham and Smith have more value to other teams than Hixon and I don't see us giving up Smith. These things never seem to happen but I'd do the deal with Manningham in a heartbeat. An added benefit would be that if Hixon goes back to being #3 or 4 receiver, he'd also go back to returning kicks and he's by far the best we have at that.
  16. Agreed that Dockery usually tackles better than that but I just don't think he covers people very well. When I see him locked into a one on one, I worry.
  17. The way people overreact to preseason, you probably could have made "Starter, Instant induction to Canton" as one of the choices and it would have garnered some votes! Lets not go crazy over one good outing against guys who will be back home by this time next week. Yes, it was good to see him finally show something but his move up the depth chart has as much to do with the underwhelming performance of the other WRs as his emergence. No way he starts - they aren't quitting on Hixon & Smith before Week One. NFL depth charts just aren't that volatile. Too much time & effort is invested in starters to throw them out based on one preseason game, especially by an otherwise untested rookie, #1 pick or not. He MIGHT have moved up enough to be the 3rd/slot guy.....but don't be surprised if Manningham gets that role, at least for the first few weeks. Nicks will get his opportunities as 3rd or 4th receiver and if he does well, he will get more opportunities but it doesn't happen as quickly as it would on our fantasy football teams.
  18. Ist half observations: We still need a receiver or two......we still have a knack for totally outplaying people and having nothing to show for it.....I'm still not sold on Dockery....
  19. DeOssie has been a decent snapper for punts but there's a reason he hasn't done FGs. These are two very different tasks. And you're probably right about not trading for a WR but I don't know how they can't be at least exploring options.
  20. Hope you're right....but I've been expecting someone to beat him out for ...yes, three years now.
  21. Jack: "Coughlin was too lazy and complacent to organize a real search for a DC". You want to say he's older than most NFL coaches? True. You want to say he can be a dour f#ck? Maybe. I'll even entertain the argument that he can't relate to his players (though I disagree). But "lazy" and "complacent"? C'mon, Jack. Even you can't misread someone THAT badly!
  22. Notice how many of those throws found 81 and 17? I know it was time for both to go but I'm not all all confident we've adequately replaced them.
  23. I dunno, it doesn't sound good to me. And while Thomas is an OK replacement at CB, I'm not sold on Dockery as the nickel. This is starting to look like the pre-season from hell.
  24. Here's the bottom line - Alford is likely done for the season and don't expect Canty to contribute anything until mid-season, at best. Biggest problem here is finding a snapper for FGs, since that was Alford's job. They'll be scouting other camps and scanning the waiver wire for someone to take that role. With Canty's torn hamstring, a 10 week recovery period might be pessimistic or optimistic. They are that unpredictable. But if he can start playing again by late October/early November, that would give a big lift to the DL that will just be starting to feel the grind. Suddenly, Bernard becomes very important. If he's healthy and can stay that way, you still have Cofield and Robbins (amazing recovery from micro-fracture surgery, thank God) rotating with Bernard on the inside. Yes, this derails some of the exotic formations that Canty seemed to be an integral part of, since he can play inside or outside but it's not like we're scrapping bottom. I also wonder if this derails a possible trade for a wide receiver, with the forgotten man - Kiwi - as the bait. Now, he might be needed more that they were counting on last week.
