Better D & running game are arguments you can make.....but Farve better than Cutler? What year do you think this is? Farve was done 2 years ago, when Webster ended his Packer tenure. Here in NY, with the Jets last year, we had a ringside seat to watch him wear down to the point of being useless by the end of the season. Agreed. With Cutler and a very good defense, the Bears will win that division (admittedly weak), so they not only make the playoffs, they will have a home playoff game.

For a guy who looked great when he stepped in during the SB run, he's been invisible ever since. The only time I hear his name is when somebody says what a great job Kehl is doing and that he's competing with Wilkerson to fill Boley's spot until he's healthy. I wouldn't be sending out the dry cleaning if I was GW. And while we're at it, might Kehl make it tough for Boley to step right back in?

As I said, I'm not sold on Tynes, either....but I'm looking for a guy to replace him who I would have confidence in to make that 44 yarder in the Meadowlands winds in January. Granted, that's a short list but Carney doesn't make it. He's accurate but doesn't have the power leg,. You want to tell me Carney would be a better kicker from Sept to Dec? Agreed....but I don't want to settle for that. We have to find a kicker that will erase this annual debate.

Carney was great when the weather was warm but when the chilly winds blew, so did he. He missed his biggest kicks of the year against Philly. I'm not sold on Tynes but not sure Carney is the guy I'd pine for....just as I agree with you on our MLB (though not as vociferous) but don't think Chase B is the answer, either!

I think you mean the Polo Grounds! My father also started there and that's how I come to have the tickets, too. I never saw football in the Polo Grounds (just the Mets in their first years), though I did see the Giants in Yankee Stadium with Gifford, Rote, Huff, et al. Also a teacher, the economy has made me cut back to two games this year, as well - Chargers & Cowboys. However, I will be at any playoff games, hopefully closing Giant Stadium with what would be my 4th NFC Championship game Giant victory! BTW, I'm trying to get rid of both preseason games and will sell for discounted rate. Great seats - front row, upper deck, 25 yard line. Drop me a PM if interested.

This is LONG overdue! We have rail lines crisscrossing all over the Meadowlands and yet there has never been a rail link to an arena seating over 19,00 and a stadium seating over 75,000! Of course, they still screwed it up a little by having the spur come off the Pascack line, instead of the Bergen/Main line, which has 10 times the ridership.....and worse, even if traveling on the Pascack line, you have to pass the stadium and go to the Seacaucus transfer station, where ALL the lines merge, including all trains from NYC, to get the train back to the stadium. This guarantees that place will be a madhouse! Still, it's a start.....

This is a VERY big deal. Must be a new injury. Puts him out of action until almost opening day, meaning he MIGHT be ready to contribute by midway through the season. &%$#!!! Wasted FA signing.

He's NOT going to get $20M per.....and the Giants are NOT going to play hard ball/low ball with him and they are certainly NOT going to let him walk. This is just the first step of the agent/GM dance. Look for him to cash in around the 12-14 per year range. And if worst case scenario - he has a dreadful year - both sides will agree to a one year deal and see where we are this time next year.

I have my doubts about AP, too. I'd like to see a faster, more athletic MLB brought in sometime soon. That said, you're totally off base on this one, Jack. Pierce had no idea Burris had a gun that night and when he shot himself, according to reports, Pierce berated him with a profanity filled tirade while he frantically tried to stop the bleeding ("you stupid mf" sort of thing). Then, he tried to help him get treatment without getting him in trouble. Pierce risked getting himself in serious trouble, bringing the gun back to Burris' house, in an attempt to help a teammate. It was a doomed attempt from the start but that's what a captain does - he looks out for teammates!

How many rookie receivers have we heard the hype about over the years? And how many actually contributed in their rookie years? Answers: many and none. (and that includes the likes of Amani Toomer!) Fine to hope for a different story this time but must give nod to reality and at least consider possibility that Nicks will not have significant impact in first year.

Yeah, I love what Carney did - he was automatic....right up until we absolutely, positively needed him when the cold winds blew in January. He was a different kicker against the Eagles in the playoffs....and now he's a year older. I'd also remind you that even in the kicker friendly climate before fall turns into winter, his kickoffs were short, sometimes very short. It was a nice job of catching lightning in a bottle and maybe Tynes isn't the answer, either....but it's time to let Carney move on.

A word of caution: I saw somewhere a listing of the last 8 WR's the Giants drafted. Between them, they had a total of 40 catches their first year.

Cedric would be my choice, a tough call over Rocky but Cedric gets the nod because I think we drafted pretty high that year.

Again, that's posturing by an agent. And those 3rd year numbers are certainly #1 receiver territory! Also, with the CBA situation, he might not have that much leverage. Even with the "bad" years figured in, the guy has averaged about 16 yards per catch though his career! That's exactly the outside threat we need to keep the running game humming. Without that, the running game bogs down, as we saw down the stretch last year.

Absolutely agree! But I think that's the Browns posturing. They can't really believe that's possible and they sure as hell don't have other offers approaching that.

You are correct - 5th year. My mistake. But his rookie year, he played in 10 games, only 7 starts...and still averaged over 15 yards per catch. The next year, he caught 61 balls for 884 yards - an impressive 2nd season. Then his 3rd year was the breakout - 80, 1289 and 16 TDs! Yes, he slipped last year to 55, 873 and only 3 TDs but I attribute that at least in part to the turmoil & QB problems in Cleveland. When I see a guy still only 26, with those kind of numbers under his belt, I have to believe this is a classic "change of scenery" needed. The guy didn't improve every year, only to suddenly forget how to play the game.

No rookie receiver is going to help us this year. Even Crabtree is going to require a learning period. We need a quality, experienced receiver if we are to go deep into the post season. Edwards is only 26 and entering his 3rd year - a perfect blend of youth and experience. I would NOT give draft picks AND Kiwi but I would do either/or. Yes, I know Kiwi is still young and we've moved him all over the place, had him lose weight, gain weight, etc. Yes, he's a versatile, quality defensive player....but I'm still not sold that he's a great pass rusher. I got very tired of watching him try the outside speed rush time after time on 3rd & long and seeing the OT push him wide, out of the play, time after time. He's got to develop another move! That is not to say he doesn't have value - clearly, he does. But you have to give quality to get quality and we are well stocked enough on the DL to absorb his loss. On the other hand, not adding a quality receiver will allow teams to stack the box, like they did against us down the stretch last year, limit our running game and make our offense look rather ordinary. Kiwi for Edwards is a trade I would make.

I wonder if they didn't want to part with a #2 until they ruled out an Edwards trade and that pick could figure in?

Actually, a #5 is about the right value for a 3rd receiver/return specialist guy. But as has been pointed out above, we have 10 picks and even if we give up 3 of them for Edwards, we still have more picks than we likely have available roster spots.....meaning Hixon is worth more than a #5 pick to US. Even if he's not our 3rd receiver, I'd want to keep him to return kicks. He was far and away the best returner we've had for a while and miles better than Bradshaw....who figures to be taken off that duty anyway, since he'll now be the 2nd RB.

That brings us to a 24 week season, meaning they'd start August 29 and the Super Bowl, assuming the week off after conference championships, would be played Feb 13. Great for us, TV execs and the owners....but Players Association might not agree!

I have read that the Giants will be one of the few dissenting votes when this comes up. They are concerned with player safety - adding games means greater risk of injury. Other teams are concerned that to compensate for that, the Player's Association will probably want a higher roster number, which would cost the owners more $$. One way or the other, the Players Association will need to get something back before signing off on this.

Food & Drinks at that place will cost as much as a night in an NJ hotel!
