  1. Good article, really hits on a lot of things wrong with today's NFL. I remember watching this documentary on NFL network about the draft, back when it had 12 rounds, it talked about how GMs/Coaches would draft players and just leave them on the team for four plus years, just to coach the player into the system through practice. Typically a coach would come in and lay down a four to six season plan to build a winning team, how he would draft, what type of players he wanted, his scheme for offence and defense, what he would want out of the GM type of thing. They would bring stability and leadership and with that hopefully a winning record, that's even why you would see teams back in the 60s and 70s stick with coaches who would put them through multiple losing seasons, just because it takes time and effort to build a team. This doesn't happen in the NFL anymore, you almost have one year to make an impression if you are lucky or else you are out on your ass looking for a new team. Look at the Raiders who have constant turn over in the coaching staff or more recently the Redskins, both teams are running through head coaches and coordinators like they are going on sale, and both teams continue to be a joke in their division.
  2. To be fair almost the entire coaching staff is different form when Robert the Third was drafted, maybe he just doesn't fit the type of team the coaches want. I mean he was touted as having a freak athletic ability for any QB coming out of the draft, but was lacking as a passer. Shanny put him in a gimmick offense that didn't teach him a thing about being a passer and got him hurt. Since then, from all reports he's regressed into a worse passer than he was coming out of college. He just needs a new start with a team that will teach him how to play QB in the NFL, instead of his butt buddy Snyder trying to cram him down the throat of a new coaching staff. I'm sure the coaching staff is just sick of having to deal with the drama from the owner and media about what they are going to do to fix RG3 when they just want to move on a build a winning team. It's like what Al Davis did with Jamarcus Russle, he went through what? Three head coaches before he was allowed to be benched by Davis.
  3. So I was looking at the top ten picks from the last five drafts, since typically after four years it's a boom or bust for a first round pick. 2014 PICK TEAM PLAYER POS 1 Texans Jadeveon Clowney DE 2 Rams Greg Robinson OT 3 Jaguars Blake Bortles QB 4 Bills Sammy Watkins WR 5 Raiders Khalil Mack OLB 6 Falcons Jake Matthews OT 7 Buccaneers Mike Evans WR 8 Browns Justin Gilbert CB 9 Vikings Anthony Barr OLB 10 Lions Eric Ebron TE 2013 PICK TEAM PLAYER POS 1 Chiefs Eric Fisher OT 2 Jaguars Luke Joeckel OT 3 Dolphins Dion Jordan DE 4 Eagles Lane Johnson OT 5 Lions Ziggy Ansah DE 6 Browns Barkevious Mingo DE 7 Cardinals Jonathan Cooper OG 8 Rams Tavon Austin WR 9 Jets Dee Milliner CB 10 Titans Chance Warmack OG 2012 PICK TEAM PLAYER POS 1 Colts Andrew Luck QB 2 Redskins Robert Griffin III QB 3 Browns Trent Richardson RB 4 Vikings Matt Kalil OT 5 Jaguars Justin Blackmon WR 6 Cowboys Morris Claiborne CB 7 Buccaneers Mark Barron SS 8 Dolphins Ryan Tannehill QB 9 Panthers Luke Kuechly ILB 10 Bills Stephon Gilmore CB 2011 SEL # TEAM PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL 1 Carolina Panthers Cam Newton QB Auburn 2 Denver Broncos Von Miller LB Texas A&M 3 Buffalo Bills Marcell Dareus DT Alabama 4 Cincinnati Bengals A.J. Green WR Georgia 5 Arizona Cardinals Patrick Peterson DB LSU 6 Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones WR Alabama 7 San Francisco 49ers Aldon Smith LB Missouri 8 Tennessee Titans Jake Locker QB Washington 9 Dallas Cowboys Tyron Smith T USC 10 Jacksonville Jaguars Blaine Gabbert QB Missouri 2010 2010 - ROUND 1 SEL # TEAM PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL 1 St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma 2 Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma 4 Washington Redskins Trent Williams T Oklahoma 5 Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry SS Tennessee 6 Seattle Seahawks Russell Okung T Oklahoma State 7 Cleveland Browns Joe Haden CB Florida 8 Oakland Raiders Rolando McClain MLB Alabama 9 Buffalo Bills C.J. Spiller RB Clemson 10 Jacksonville Jaguars Tyson Alualu DT California I feel like, every year all these "must have, will be the next NFL great" lock picks inside the top ten, maybe two or three out of every draft actually lives up to the hype. 2010; Suh, Williams, Berry. 2011;Newton (somewhat), Green, Jones. 2012; Luck, Kalil has been meh outside of his rookie season, Kuechly. 2013; lol who? 2014;Bortles, Evans and Watkins are all helping their team as rookies. Maybe it's just me but I feel like moving a few spots in the draft isn't going to hurt us as much as other people make it out to be. I mean I think of where Odell was taken, arguably he can be the best WR taken out of the draft in the last five years, pick 12.
  4. I have no idea where anyone gets any of this information. Other than it being made up. I'd love to see the article/interview with anyone saying any of this outside of message board "information".
  5. Honestly it's a pipe dream but the guy knows how to coach a defense. He'll end up going to HC the 49ers though.
  6. Dan Quinn, Seahawks defensive coordinator contract is up. Promise him the world and the HC job when Coughlin is "retires" in couple seasons. Todd Bowels, Arizona defensive coodinator. Supposedly Mara has said he liked the guy and he's a New Jersey native, also is a prime candidate for a HC job in the next couple of seasons.
  7. I have no problem with it. Look at when Seattle got in, they beat the what? 12-4 Saints?
  8. How are your Jags doing Nas?
  9. Because they're not playing for a draft spot, they're playing to win. Who wants to see that attitude out of a team?
  10. A hold that get's five yards, or a sack that nets five yards. He still held one of the best DE's in the league to absolutely nothing.
  11. Do people get voted to the pro bowl anymore? Didn't they do some sort of celebrity draft or some stupid shit last year?
  12. It will come down to OBJ and Evans, both are having great seasons. A case will be made for Evans because he has some no body throwing to him, however OBJ has the media hype behind him, especially after making what some people are calling the best catch ever made. OBJ will win though, like I said he has the media hype along with the numbers. Edit. If he does win, will he be the first Giant to do so? I know LT won DROTY.
  13. As much as people have been laying into the guy, he has had a bounce back season. Not a 30 million dollar bounce back season but in my mind he's played himself back into the starting LT role that got him that contract, I would even say he's has been a top 15 LT this year. Take today for example, he was against Quinn, the same DE who had 20(?) sacks last season and 11 this season. Beatty held him (in more ways than one) too zero sacks on the day, I don't even think he had a solo tackle and man handled him in the run game. I'll take the holding penalties if it means Eli isnt having to peel himself off the turf every other play. Granted I feel like if he wants to continue being on the Giant's he would need to restructure his contract, but I wouldn't have a problem with him being the starting LT next season. The O-line has been playing really well in general the last number of weeks, I think in large part to Beatty and Pugh being able to keep DEs off of Eli.
  14. You mean other than start celebrating 10 yards before getting into the endzone?
  15. And it's not like he's going crazy or anything, the only reason anything happened was because the Rams defender was a little bitch who couldn't take the fact that hes a scrub who got beaten by Odell.
  16. He's young, he'll learn. "if the Giants lost this game, because of the ejections, quite a number of teammates would have a word with him" I'm sure the coaches and players are going to have a word with him regardless of a win or loss.
  17. For once did you ever ask any of how long we think TC and Reese should be on the team? Or even bother to think that many of us consider both of them to be on very short leashes next season. You're right this team into a player or two away, it hasn't been a player of two away for the last few seasons, it's going to take multiple seasons for this team to build itself back into contender form, and it's going to take a roster overhaul and coaching overhaul to do it. I've been saying this since we missed the playoffs in 2012, the team isnt a player or two away, or a head coach away. Why than blow the team up (which I've never seen work) by throwing out the most stable figures in the franchise this off season? When you know that the Giant's will be bringing in a new DC along with a handful of other coaches I suspect (special teams, strength and conditioning), why send everyone packing and send the team into a state of chaos like the Redskins. The Giant's have never operated like this, why would they try to start becoming like the bottom feeder teams, who don't even know what team they even are, they have no identity, players are just there for a paycheck. It takes time and change for a team to build, what do you think happened between 2003 and 2007? Did Mara and Company just press the reset button after every failed playoff run? Or when people wanted Eli and Coughlin looking for other teams? This site has almost become as bad as the GMB with how some people just think everyone is against them or just have some man crush on the coaches/players.
  18. Good coach, from the era that a HC should get more then two seasons to turn a team around, something many bottom feeder teams in this league can't comprehend throughout their history of losing. I don't see the Rams letting him go any time soon, they know he's been given a shitty hand by having Sam Bradford as his QB, and the team continues to play hard for him. He made a lot of good points in the article and is a reason why I've been saying TC and JR won't be gone this season, the ownership isn't going to turn this team in the new Redskins of the East. Mara and Company have never blown up a team over a knee jerk season, even 2004 was gradual changes to the product we got in 2007, slowly adding coaches and players to the team to build a winning team.
  19. Because some beat writer who obviously knows more about football than anyone on the Giants said so? He's 6ft 4, not 6ft 11. David Tyree was 6ft1, three inches shorter and had an great career on special teams as a gunner.
  20. Kinda like the talent we are wasting with Moore, oh wait. How many undrafted players have we watched in pre-season light up a game against third string scrub to not do anything in the regular season? Cruz is the only exception I can think of. Coughlin has been a WRs/Offensive guy his entire life, if anything I would take his opinion over some sports beat writer tying to make some story over a losing teams final two games. Do people not remember where Odell first got experience when he got back from injuries? Returning kicks and punts, on special teams. Maybe just maybe, there isn't a "Coughlin code" like everyone here seems to think there is, that he's against playing rookies or letting talent sit on the bench. Or yeah maybe people are right and every single coach on the Giants is saying "Oh Washington is our next starting WR, but we don't want him on the field for reasons"
  21. So a coach who would of probably not been fired, is probably not going to be fired. I just don't understand people's logic over a couple wins. Coughlin/JR are not going to be fired this offseason, heck I've been saying it the last six weeks. Fewell is gone and I'm sure a a handful of assistant coaches and the strength and conditioning staff are sent packing. The Giant's arnt prone to the Snyder/Davis/Matt Millen line of running teams, I honestly don't know what people excepted this offseason. Even in 2004 the "rebuild" was gradual over a three-four season period, Mara isnt a idiot and he knows what needs to be changed.
  22. As long as he doesnt decide to start doing backflips he can dance as spastic as he wants.
  23. Yep it's official. This place is now worse than the GMB, and I wonder why so many posters arnt around anymore.
  24. If this happens, it's not a problem with the coaching, it's a problem with the owners. But since we don't have Dan Snyder as the owner, I know this wont happen. Do people honestly think no change is coming this off season just because of some wins? This is almost getting as bad as the GMB.
  25. This thread has more salt in it, then a large order of McDonald fries.
