Which Linebackers make the team ?

If we carry 7 I think it may be:

Pierce, Kiwi, Wilkinson, DeOssie, Kehl, Goff and Clark

I think chase blackburn could get cut.

Competition in camp is gonna be high.

57 Blackburn, Chase LB 6-3 247 24 4 Akron

55 Clark, Danny LB 6-2 245 31 9 Illinois

52 Daniels, Tank LB 6-3 248 26 3 Harding

51 DeOssie, Zak LB 6-4 250 23 1 Brown

94 Goff, Jonathan LB 6'2 245 22 R Vanderbilt

53 Kehl, Bryan LB 6'2 242 23 R BYU

97 Kiwanuka, Mathias LB 6-5 265 25 3 Boston College

54 O'Neil, Keith LB 6'0 240 27 3 Northern Arizona

58 Pierce, Antonio LB 6-1 238 29 8 Arizona

59 Wilkinson, Gerris LB 6-3 231 25 3 Georgia Tech

He is a good special teams player but not over the top

as a dominant athletic type.

Wondering if others see it this way.

I wonder what Kiwi's role will be.

In my mind his being a LB is still questionable

and maybe he splits time. LB and DE?

Someone should call Steve Spagnulo and

ask what the deal is?

Kiwi will continute to play SLB on 1st and 2nd down. He'll return to the DL on 3rd down passing situations, although his exact role in that regard is predicated on Strahan's return and Aflord's progress.

As for the rest of the LBs, it's just too early to call. Assuming everyone stays healthy (knock on wood), it's safe to say that Pierce, Kiwi, Wilkinson, DeOssie, Kehl, and Goff are locks to make the final roster. If Blackburn loses the back-up MLB job to Goff, then he's instantly vulnerable. If Danny Clark doesn't win the starting WLB, then he's vulberable as well since we have a lot of young athletes that can play specials. Also, Tank Daniels is very much in the mix because of his special teams ability, but he'll have to make strides as a LB in order to surpass both Blackburn and Clark.

We'll also have to see how the rest of the roster composition develops, since that will be highly determanitive of how many LBs are ultimately kept. One thing is clear: this will be an exceeedingly difficult team to make.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere in the past few weeks that Tank Daniels was already cut.

So much depends on Strahan's decision. If he retires, Kiwi will definitely be listed as a DE even though he will probably split time as a LB. Which in turn would leave the door open for Blackburn who has been a pretty steady force.

Tank Daniels is most definitely on the team. He was arguably our best coverage specialist in the playoffs. As you might recall, he forced the fumble on the second half kickoff in Tampa.

Judging by Spags most recent comments, Kiwi will be our starting SLB regardless of the Strahan situation. They've already committed to it. To add to that, DeOssie and Kehl are the back-up SLBs, not Blackburn. If he loses his back-up MLB job to Goff, then he's suddenly on the chopping block.

I think that Blackburn should learn to play willy or sam. everytime we asked him to step up he nothing but good things happen onthe field. Hopefully he makes the team. If he does or not, he still gets a ring right?

I know in baseball anyone that was on the team during a championship season gets a ring regardless of where they are at the time of the championship. I'm not too sure about football, but I seem to recall someone saying that Anthony Mix would get a Super Bowl ring even though he was a Redskin for 90% of the season.

...yah, that one time way back when he had a pick for 6 and went down with a broken neck....

Against the Skins I think.

it's funny how people remember that "one time he played"...

I case you guys don't remember, Pierce is a machine...Blackburn is our current Frank Ferrara...extremely expendable. I remember how bad our defense looked without him when he was out with a sprained ankle(think it was against Carolina in the playoffs) and boy I don't ever want to see Chase Blackburn starting.

Chase started against the Chiefs and then the Redskins. He got hurt and we signed Kevin Lewis off the street to start in Oakland and against the Panthers.

Well Lewis had played the year before and knew the defense. He actually played well.

If Chase was released it wouldn't surprise me. like I said before, he's a tryer, but he has nothing over any other linebcaker right now. He's expendable.

If Chase gets cut, Zak DeOssie better be ready to take over as the Token White Guy. The fate of our defense rests in the balance.

:LMAO:

Good one Money... I really want to see what Zak can do. I really think he's more siuted for MLB position. He's got size and speed, so it would be interesting what he can do one the field. I know he was a project LB when we drafted him. Now I think its time to ease him in the field.

I'm thinking the final roster will be Kiwi, Pierce, and Wilkinson, then DeOssie, Clark, Chase, and one of the two rookies. The other one will end up on the practice squad.

I think both linebackers drafted this year will jump over Zak Deossie on the depth chart. Just a hunch.

i'm sorry but I'm just not ga ga over the guy, he did well on special teams late in the season and he's a long snapper, but Alford can long snap also and he's bigger. Zak needs to have had a big off season, come in with a little bit more oomph and have a big training camp. Goff and Keuhl, look like they have some serious upside and should contribute on special teams right away.

If being a good guy was all you needed to be a linebacker, Chase would probably be a pro bowler.

Unfortunately it's not the case. He's a hard worker, and he'll play in this league for a while. But as far as I'm concerned, he has no special quality that makes him stand out apart. He doesn't tackle any better than anyone, he's not great in coverage, and he's decent on special teams and even then Deossie was doing that better than him towards the end of the season. Chase is a little bigger than both of these guys we drafted, but probably not faster, which is very important FOR MAKING SURE YOU GET YOUR ASS OFF THE FIELD IN THE SUPERBOWL!!!

Lets thank Coach Belichik for pointing that out. Although he had a point, what other nit picking son of a (insert expletive) would have tried that?

That my friend, was good coaching on Bellichek's part. Don't think for one second Coughlin wouldnt' have done the same.
