  1. Nem, when exactly would have been a good time for this?. Before the draft, perhaps. But for a team who last year took a defensive end when they needed help elsewhere and this year took a corner when things were more pressing at linebacker, considering that line of thinking it wouldn't have mattered.
  2. Thank you. If he retires, he retires. If he comes back, good. But either way we'll move on. it's just amazing how much crap he seems to be taking. The guy has been with us for 14 years. People talk about well it's easy to be loyal when you're getting paid millions, well fact is Strahan could have gone to a lot of teams and made millions. Brett Favre has been pulling his retirement shit down in Green Bay for the last few years, and I've seen some on here give him a pass, because well...he's Brett Farve. Difference is Favre's performances have dropped off a whole lot in the last few years and Strahans hasn't to that extent. In fact he's still the best DE we have.
  3. seems like we have a lot of passengers looking for a ride round these parts. JEEZ!!!
  4. How is this team better off without Strahan?. Whether he leaves or they release him, the team is not better off without him?. Which player on the defense right now could take his slot and be better than him? When he's gotten hurt the last few years, the team's performance suffered, it didn't improve. Just cause he whines and complains, hey Welcome to the Giants everyone, where everyone from owners to players like to talk a whole lot.
  5. Gary Myers wrote it in today's Daily News
  6. All I can say to this is........ Badegg, I'm not going to put you on ignore, if you stayed a little bit more serious it would be nice. But to utter the words "romo" and "lights up", in the same sentence, you might as well piss into the wind my friend. Your guy down took 4 years to make it and only did so when they ran out of options. Think about it, Bledsoe stunk up the joint but what if he hadn't played so bad, Romo wouldn't have been on the field at all. You can't be seriously putting that guy on that high a pedestal. At least give him one more year to prove he's not a fluke.
  7. Reese didn't need the Strahan deal for him to learn to say No comment Fish. He's been spouting of quite a bit, his comments about Luke were out of line. New system yes, but a system that needs 2 defensive ends like last year. Sure there's some adjustments but in the end, he's still playing the same position. I'm not saying he's right, but I'm trying to measure how 'wrong" he is here. The guy is 35 and plays one of the most demanding slots on the team. Forget the money for one second, I think he's earned a few breaks. Strahan has rarely let Giant fans down in the past. He'll be back in a few days.
  8. Strahan is taking some time off, he's not going anywhere, and I don't see Rice coming in. Strahan is 35, and has been here a long time and probably thinks he's earned some special favors. In a sense he kinda has. I don't see the big deal to be honest. And if he does retire, well we already got the replacement. I like Tuck, i'd love to see what he can do healthy. Or if worse comes to worse, WILLIAM JOSEPH TO DEFENSIVE END!! what amazes me in all of this is that Reese doesn't seem to understand the term "no comment".
  9. I agree, fuck that self serving twot. I'm waiting for the day TommyRibs comes over.
  10. I knew if I stuck around long enough, I'd agree with you. I made this point the last time the GMB went down, and we had all those new members using this board as a gathering point.
  11. None of these previous "welcomes" are of any value to you Mr. Bomb, not until you have been welcomed by the real deal over here at Sportswrath, that being me. Welcome to Sportswrath FBomb!! You are now offically welcome.
  12. Simply put, that Eli Manning doesn't start taking the next step to being the stud QB people he's expected to be. People worry about making up for Tiki's offense, but you'd be wrong for assuming that Jacobs and Droghans must make up the difference. Fact is that Tiki ran the ball so much becuase Tiki made more stuff happen than anyone else. And the QB now has to try and pick up the slack. If he doesn't, then this team really will be at a crossroads next season. Probable new coach, possible consideration for a different QB. People on here think this is a throwaway year, but this team is not built to have throwaway years. Eli is the key.
  13. When you let a player go, you've pretty much said what you need to say about the player. Luke understands the business and has gotten himself a new job so good for him. Reese shows very little class here for an organization that likes to preach class and also an organization that only a few days had Coughlin say in a press conference that the team needs to talk less to the press. How does the team expect it's players to stop ripping on each other when their GM rips a former player, who was respected in the locker room. Furthermore, Luke was having his best year last year and who knows what he could have been at years end if he had not "broke his leg". And Reese's comment about LT is ignorant. If the position is so overated, why bring in Bob whitfield a few years back as a backup, I mean regardless what you think of Bob and his ability to headbutt and look left and right at the same time, the guy was a starter for years in Atlanta. Remarkable stuff from Reese IMO, I was hopeful, but I'm starting to wonder.
  14. Wow, I guess you gotta take the big money when you can get it and I know 13.5 is good money, but the guy is going to be almost 31 when that contract runs out and unless he restructures around year 3, he's risking a big payday down the line.
  15. Strahan lost touch with reality a long time ago. He's such a good player that you just wish he'd stop thinking and talking.
  16. I hear Coughlin needs that also Nas.
  17. Culpepper's best statistical year was 2004 Career Stats Passing Rushing Year Team G Comp Att Pct. Yds Y/G Y/A 300 Yd TD Int Rush Yds Y/G Avg TD 2004 MIN 16 379 548 69.2 4717 294.8 8.6 6 39 11 88 406 25.4 4.6 2 Now, Moss the same year caught 49 passes, and yes Moss only played 13 games that year. which actually makes it even stranger as to who caught the other 330 passes. Hint: It wasn't Cris carter.
  18. fish, my past comments on tampa have always been the same, Gruden is overated and he won his one superbowl based on the fact that the raiders knew he knew their plays and still didn't adjust. It still doesn't take away from the fact there's interest in him. I agree with you if eli goes down we're fucked, but you know what, we could be fucked with him healthy also. My point is that if eli looks over his shoulder now, he has nothing to fear. Look at McNabb, see how pissed he was when the Eagles drafted the kid in the second round. That's an experienced and better QB than eli and he knows now that he's got to keep playing better. Fact is, Eli is too comfortable, you can see it in his expressions, in his play on the field.Eli would have to throw 10 interceptions in a game before the Giants would give up on him right now. Now, for nothing else put a guy "like" Culpepper,(doesn't have to be him, but a guy was a decent background). Maybe, just the fact that he's there, keeps Eli on his toes. Look around at this team, every position at some stage has been addressed in terms of depth, be it good or bad it's been addressed. All except the most important one. And Fish, Culpepper make suck major ass, but the fact that they made an effort or looked into an upgrade would satisfy me as a Giant fan. That's all you can ask. You're right about the throw away as the first option, but coaches will also tell you to take the sack if absolutely necessary. I know all about the injuries (not sure what you're point is with the linebackers comment, I'm aware of it). It would have been just as productive IMO to leave warner in as starter if the whole team is going down in flames. Be honest, many of us were worried about how Eli could have been affected going through all those losses and the fact that he was playing so poorly and the "he's nothing compared to Big Ben" references going on around him.
  19. There are coaches out there that will tell you to throw the ball away or take the sack rather than throw a bad pass and risk an interception, so I'm not sure if it's all that big of a sin what he did. That said, if he was 3-4 or 3-5, I'd have no issue with him being pulled, because we have a losing record. however if the defense was struggling, I think you'd want to have a more experienced QB who might be able to move the ball as opposed to a rookie qb who's going 3 and out on every possession. The guy had experience and was a former Superbowl winner and MVP, he didn't get that becuase he outright sucked. He gave us the best chance to win that year and as far as I'm concerned, the Giants gave up on the season way too early.
  20. Fish, Tampa has already had talks with Culpepper and they have 7-8 qb's. I think it's fair to say that Atlanta is going to be looking soon for insurance. The Raiders could use him as possible help as they develop Jamarcus Russell. There are several teams that will need experience at backup and I think you and I know he'll probably end up somewhere for training camp. Why not the Giants?. He still has the experience, he's played in some big games. If eli goes down early with injury, I have no confidence that the 3 qb's on the roster after him can fill his spot or come close, none. And it 's with good reason, they are not very good. He's absolutely worth the flyer if they can afford him. That's my opinion. Anyway if he's errant with any of his throws, Pla will catch them for him, he's had plenty of experience with Eli.
  21. Warner didn't play all that badly in a few games Midas. And their record after he was demoted was terrible, so if they won in spite of him how come they couldn't win without him?. He's not a saviour, I'm not saying that, but fact is we had a winning record with him on board. There was no good reason to make that switch until we were out of the running.
  22. How is it silly? We have people on here saying that without Randy Moss and Fish mentioned Chris carter, that Culpepper was no good without them. But those QB's had great wide receivers also surrounding them too and nobody is taking anything away from them are they?. Doesn't matter if they are HOF qb's. In no way am I saying he's on there level and seriously you should realize that.
  23. And we lost every game bar one the rest of the way. Say what you want about "whatshisface", the team had a winning record when he was qb. In my opinion, that season was the sickest I've ever been as a Giant fan, becuase they simply folded the tent and quit once Eli took over. As for "whathisface", he was brought in to be the temporary starter, for one year at least, he wasn't brought in to light a fire under Eli.
  24. Fish, do I think he'd be an asset, maybe not, but do you think that any of the 3 backups we have right now are "assets"?. He's not going to be signed by anyone for big money, so I don't see him as much of a liability. As for the media going apeshit, sorry but it's been going on long before training camp, it's been going on since mid season last year. It was heightened when Cowher quit and again when Jerry reese took over. If you think about it, maybe a little qb controversy wouldn't be so bad. This whole thing with "well he had all these amazing receivers who caught everything he threw so he owes it all to them" is to me a cop out. Joe Montana had John taylor and Jerry Rice, Marino had the Marks, Steve Young had Rice and Owens. Couldn't the same theory be used for those guys as it is Culpepper?. By the way, forget Walter, Moss dogged it with the raiders, simply dogged it, it wouldn't matter who was QB, he simply looked around at his bad team and said " I don't give a fuck". that's too obvious.
