  1. So we don't have to feed and dress Lorenzen anymore and all of a sudden we've got money for Snee...
  2. Ah well he had to wake up from that dream. He was a great gimmick while it lasted for short yardage. He sure did have a long windup for his throws when he finally made a decision with the ball.
  3. He was so much fun to watch. Watching the clips what jumped out at me was the guys trying to take Bavaro down, nobody was trying to take him down below the knees.
  4. Maybe more competition in special teams, as a WR he has barely made a squeak.
  5. I was hoping he'd replace Collinsworth and Aikman. Those two are easily the worst thing about watching the game on fox.
  6. Sssh the cops aren't aware of me yet!
  7. Nice to see the thread still going strong with good arguments for both sides. I still haven't seen anything to convince me that Shockey is the villain here. I agree with Virginia Giant that the whole situation is a joke that needs to be resolved. Giants & Shockey need each other, that is a fact. They can't replace him and he will not be a better tight end elsewhere and win another super bowl. The whole idea that the team was better without Shockey was drummed up by the media. They created the story and have run with it for the last 6 months. The Giants trying to trade Shockey sure didn't help it and Shockey not speaking up sooner sure didn't help. You read what Phil Simms had said about the situation and you get an idea of what Shockey is feeling. You see what the organization tried to do this spring and you can understand that as well. Now is the time for reconciliation. Second round pick for Shockey would have been ridiculously cheap, ask Oakland. I do believe Shockey did ask to get moved simply because when you hear about how well your team has done without you, it definitely gets to you as a competitor. Which is why we sit here and talk about what they do and complain about how much they make; we can't do what they do and they get paid that money to perform at the highest level. If it was all about the chicks and money they'd be actors. Its a sport and it is all about the competition with each other to be the best there ever was. Only thing most of us understand is the perks and the paycheck.
  8. This is funny, some people on this very board threw Shockey under the bus for sitting up in box and "kicking back beers" while his team was on the field winning the super bowl. Now people start hearing the other side of what has been a one sided story. Shockey is pissed about a few things and so far one of them is not money unlike some other players. The organization needs to seriously sit down with Shockey and Burress specifically, to put this behind them the right way and not have this lingering over the team another minute. Pay Burress and apologize to Shockey for the last 6 months of headlines coming straight out of the front office into the media. I'd have loved to have been within earshot of that arguement between Reese & Shockey.
  9. He actually decided to leave because he would be coming back to be a backup instead of a starter. Looks like the Browns are ok with Bentley leaving as well. Do remember that the guy was injured in practice with the team, had two knee surgeries and almost died. What good would that money have done him?
  10. How is he not showing loyalty? He's not asking for a trade, he's asking to renegotiate his contract. Mushin Mohammed got a $30 million contract and he got cut after 3 seasons, how much of that $30 million do you think he saw. If you just look at what receivers are making now and compare it to what he is making then compare their numbers to his, Burress should be making more money. If you have a problem with a player not practicing while his contract is under renegotiation, do you also have a problem with an organization that tells a player not to show up at camp because they plan on getting rid of that player and don't want to risk being on the hook if that person should get injured?
  11. When you mention character concerns, remember that Plaxico doesn't beat his wife, doesn't use drugs, and has not been in any legal trouble. So what were those character issues again? He's proven the character issues around him when he was a free agent were unfounded. I'll argue that Burress has lived up to his contract every year he's been with the Giants. If someone can point out one year that another receiver on the team had more yards, catches and touchdowns than Burress, please let me know. Plaxico got the short end of the stick when we signed him in 2005 and now he deserves to see some cash.
  12. Yeah and what about Jake Plummer? Had great numbers but his team drafted his replacement. Hell, Gibril had great numbers and we let him go and drafted someone cheaper. There is an opinion that is shared by fans that players take a break after they sign a contract. If you are a player you want to be the best there ever was. This is a sport of competition, and you are competing against everyone in the league not just against who you play next week. Players have to ask for money up front or they get the short end of the stick. The organization still makes their money, players get to lineup in free agency and hope they get taken before the draft or else they're out. Being a player at the professional level is so much harder than what anyone has to do day to day. Try living under that spotlight and living up to everyone elses expectations of what you should be.
  13. Treehugger, how can you hold a player to honor his contract when the team he signs a contract with are equally not obligated to honor it as well?
  14. LOL And so ends the career of Cedric Benson. Wasn't much of one to begin with. So what are the chance we can squeeze a conditional second rounder out of the Bears for Derrick Ward? We've certainly got the proven RB's.
  15. Shockey wasn't the only person who didn't show up at the white house, no point in bringing that up as a knock on him. Shockey showing up for a paid event instead of the voluntary free team event; not a surprise if any of you actually thought about things from his side. BTW, once again; Shockey hasn't said a single word while all this talk has come from the unamed source and the media. More than a few people on this board have come up with their own opinion based on one side of the story and now you hear his and he's full of it?
  16. Good for Mike, glad he's decided to hang it up on a high note and still in one piece. The reign of Justin Tuck has officially begun. What Justin Tuck has been doing up until now was just giving everyone a small dose of his ability.
  17. Michael Jennings might not make the team either, but that is the way it goes in the NFL. I do not believe Tyree has much to worry about since his competion has shown so little so far.
  18. Wish some people were traded but I guess I'll have to wait on that.
  19. If 16 games were enough, nobody would watch preseason games. We simply do not get enough football. Its the reason why we are here doing mock drafts, watching teams during free agency, watching the draft, reading the mini camp reports, and following every single practice during late July and August. They could make it 20 games and there still wouldn't be enough football to satisfy the demand for the game. One of the items that the players union has not wanted to cap is actually rookie salaries. I'm surprised considering the veterans would be the ones getting short changed.
  20. LMAO, wow we're checking player's weight nowadays and wondering if its twinkees and beer or red meat and protein shakes. We've had an offensive linemen come in at over 300 pounds that couldn't block the doorway to a subway car. Only way we're gonna know if Boss has improved is a damn good long hard look at him in the preseason. Not concerned about him losing speed either, David Boston was running around the field at 240 and a 4.50 40 time. I'm just not going to comment on that one post mentioning Boss as the top 3 TE's that have played for the NY Giants.
  21. Leaders retire, teams move on; ask Tiki. The Giants will have to find a way to win without Strahan. I like Strahan as mucha s everyone else, I would rather Strahan went out on top than comeback and have a bad season or worse and get hurt.
  22. I was ready to say goodbye to Strahan last year and say hello to Justin Tuck. I haven't changed my opinion on that. Strahan can finish out his contract without the extra cash or go ride a desk for espn.
  23. Yeah that was Charles Woodson during the NFC conference game. He got up after that play thinking he was still a Raider.
  24. Oh the love... :brooding: How about he just wants to make sure he has a job and still living in the same state at the end of the season? He's a family man and needs to plan for his family. Haven't heard any numbers on what Jacobs is looking for so how about we wait before throwing him into the greedy pro athlete category. If the players held any real power in the NFL, the owners would have folded up shop a long time ago.
  25. Wynn is a bit of veteran depth and nothing more. How can a backup DE who at his best mustered 5 1/2 sacks in one season possibly be a ploy to bring back Strahan? Wynn is not even in the same class. Football beat writers must be on vacation and dear abby is filling for the football sports section.
