Final Cut Day

Wish Alford could've stuck around. He's the one cut that has me a bit bummed. I'm very surprised that Duke Calhoun has seemed to have passed Derek Hagan, leading to the latter's being cut. And I have a hard time believing we are seriously only going with Boss and Beckum at TE. I thought Pascoe was a gamer. Not shocked about the Bomar cut once we traded for Rosenfels. Hopefully Rhett can make it on the PS.

Here's Garafolo's take:

"Alford appeared to be on his way to a breakout season in 2009, but was sidelined by a torn knee ligament suffered in the second preseason game. The injury left Alford "depressed" and, when he returned to the field, a shell of his former self. The quick step he showed throughout camp last year was gone as he struggled to return to form.

Alford said recently his knee started to respond when he tested it fully for the first time. But with four players at his position in Chris Canty, Barry Cofield, Rocky Bernard and Linval Joseph, the Giants simply didn't have the roster space to wait for his full recovery".

Nathan Vasher (Bears)

Jacques Reeves (Texans)

Karl Paymah (49ers)

I've always thought well of Vasher. And yes, Tree, Bernard was not 100% at all last year. But I wonder if part of his ineffectiveness was due to lack of motivation after he cashed in. I expect that's all behind him now and that he will be a force in the middle for us this year. I would like to see Canty and Linval in at the same time... oh man it's not going to be fun for opposing linemen or QB's this season!

i looked him up. fuck you all very much.

In our defense, all the rest of us really know about him is he is a WR, who played at Memphis, who is now somehow on the NYG roster....I guess a 60 yard TD reception in the 4th preseason game against the 3rd string whom he burned was enough to get him on the roster...

Here's my cut and paste job from Giants.com.

Running Backs (4): Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, D.J. Ware, Darius Reynaud

Tight Ends (2): Kevin Boss, Travis Beckum

Offensive Linemen (9): David Diehl, Rich Seubert, Shaun O'Hara, Chris Snee, Kareem McKenzie, Will Beatty, Adam Koets, Shawn Andrews, Mitch Petrus

Defense (26)

Defensive Linemen: (9): Justin Tuck, Barry Cofield, Chris Canty, Mathias Kiwanuka, Osi Umenyiora, Rocky Bernard, Dave Tollefson, Jason Pierre-Paul, Linval Joseph

Safeties (4): Antrel Rolle, Deon Grant, Kenny Phillips, Michael Johnson

Specialists (3)

Kicker (1): Lawrence Tynes

Punter (1): Matt Dodge

Long Snapper (1): Zak DeOssie

My thoughts: I don't like us having just 2 qb's but the fact that Rosenfels comes in to replace Bomar is good news.

We don't need 4 running backs. DJ Ware IMO is more than expendable now that we got that kid from the Vikings. I'd like to see Andre Brown stick around on the practice squad.

Wide receivers is fine. Cruz earned the spot, not sure what Calhoun can do but I don't think he makes it to next week. I'm just glad there's no Moss.

Offensive line: The Andrews pickup might just work by the looks of it. I think Koets could have been moved on, Deossie can do that job.

Defensive Line: Feel bad for Alford, and I like that Dave Tollefson sticks around, he produces in spot duty.

Linebackers: Gerris Wilkerson moves into the WTF slot left by Moss.

Corners: To me this is a huge concern. I don't have total faith in anyone other than Thomas, Ross is just too injury prone. Hopefully somebody with experience is picked up these next few days.

Tynes: Fuck, give me a break. Shayne Graham is out there dammit!!!

I'm not worried about the QB situation....if we lose Eli and Rosenfels, we're pretty much fucked no matter how you slice it. Either of them go down, there are QB's out there.

I'm with you on the RB situation as well....I'd gladly trade our #4 RB if it means giving Alford a few more weeks to round into shape..... if Bradshaw or Jacobs goes down, then you make the space.

Re Wilkerson.....LOL, so true.

Regarding Tynes....I've quit trying to figure this one out. This is officially Stonehenge territory for me.
