  1. Actually, the complete opposite is true regarding what I want to think. I certainly don't look to villainize him. I was a big Tiki Barber fan, right up to the aftermath of the Panthers loss, and gradually lost more respect for him into the following season, and through his retirement. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Tiki Barber was an incredible player, but a crappy teammate. You think this Tiki-bashing is all media driven, but frankly it was Barber that lit the match and has repeatedly fanned the flames. He's a smart man, a media-savvy man, and he understands the what, when, and why of everything that he says into a microphone.
  2. Barber bet on the wrong horse. He thought Coughlin was toast, and that Coughlin was going to going 8-8 or 7-9 and get canned. So, he felt a certain security to speak his mind about Coughlin. But now that Coughlin has them in the Super Bowl, Tiki is engaging in some revisionist rhetoric. He's hoping that the Giants will win, and all his backsass will be forgotten in the feel-good afterglow. But regardless of what he said before, and what he is saying now, you know this run must be absolutely KILLING him inside.
  3. Williams is the logical choice. Glad to see Snyder is set to once again disturb the chemistry of the team. The one thing Fassel has going for him is a great offensive reputation, and maybe Snyder feels Fassel can take Jason Campbell to the next level. Interesting.
  4. Fair or not, winning the Super Bowl will stamp Eli with an untouchable reputation. If he loses the Super Bowl, then he falls into a category that includes everyone from Kerry Collins and Rex Grossman to Jim Kelly and Dan Marino. But given who he's beaten to get here, I'd say his future after this game is very bright, regardless of the outcome.
  5. Let's win the next game before we start talking about dynasties.
  6. Same thing I've said to all the Cowboys fans - nothing. I'm going into this game with very low expectations. So far, that strategy has served me well.
  7. Excellent article. We are going to need all hands on deck to have a chance against the Patriots. And outside of Manning, the one guy that will need to come up huge is Plaxico. But the more I think about it, the more I believe in Plaxico, Toomer, and Smith. Throw in the Boss man and either Jacobs and Bradshaw, and really, the Patriots defense will have their hands full, too.
  8. I agree. Bradshaw is going to get a healthy amount of carries....but Jacobs will get the start. Look for Coughlin and Gilbride to feed Ahmad heavily in the 4th quarter. The Patriots have a veteran LB crew, but they are old, and will be vulnerable late in the game. And Bradshaw can take it to the house at any time.
  9. I live out in Chicago, and the Packers fans are all very, very cool. They love their team, but they love good football too. Chicago fans in general don't care for any New York teams. It's a cultural deal with them. However, their sports radio has been giving the Giants grudging respect, and it started when the Giants played their asses off against the Patriots when they had nothing to gain for it. But Bears fans are actually pretty cool too. For one thing, they are very knowledgeable. And for another thing, they have a respect for tradition - like the Packers, Steelers, and Giants fans, for example. So even though they don't like the Giants, the more intelligent among them admire the team's work ethic.
  10. Very well said. Ironically, the Giants once again put their asses on the line at the end of the season. The game meant absolutely ZERO to the Giants - if anything, it was a huge gamble, considering the risk for injury. The Giants could have been complete pussies (like the Cowboys and Bucs) and rested their starters. But no. Because the Giants care about the league, and the game, they played their asses off, and took some injuries for the trouble. But the football gods took notice of the sacrifice, and here we are again in a game that means everything for both teams. A word to all Giant haters - we're playing with house money. We weren't supposed to be here. We were picked to go 5-11 or 6-10..... at best, 8-8. We are one of the youngest teams in the whole league. And all signs point to us being around for a long, long, time. Get used to the Giants in big games, suckas. And a special word to all Charger fans - what is it going to take for you guys to just shut the fuck up about the Eli-Rivers trade???? It's pretty clear at this point that the trade worked out great for everybody - go get yourselves some tampons, a box of chocolates, and watch the Lifetime Network instead of the Super Bowl. Nobody is going to miss your whining asses. I'd say something about the Eagles fans, but that team and its fanbase has fallen so low that they aren't worth any further keystrokes.
  11. To my knowledge, he has not, which is unfortunate, since I think he'd make a damn good coach somewhere. Another name I've been hearing about is Jim Fassel for the Redskins job....that would be a trip.
  12. FUCK!!!!!!! I've been banking on Dr. Z to pick the Pats. Sonofabitch!
  13. You've got a good point. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a solid offer, but again, like you've said, would it be worth it? The best choice the Falcons could make would be Mike Singletary. I think he would bring instant legitimacy, and would be well-received by the Atlanta fanbase. It's clear that this team needs a guy that they can respect, and they need a fresh start. Atlanta looks to be a struggling franchise for at least the next two years. Singletary is a class act, and as a Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Famer, he would command respect in a very fucked-up locker room.
  14. Regardless of what happens in the SB, please stay.

  16. There's something about the NY Giants and losing good coaches. It goes all the way to Lombardi and Landry, to Parcells, Belichick, Fox, Payton, and now it could be Spags. Hopefully Mara and Tisch will give him crazy money, and he'll be promoted with Asst HC and be groomed as Coughlin's successor. At the very least, I hope that his assistants have been paying attention to what he's been doing here, and his system is retained.
  17. If we could trade Shockey for a nasty safety that could cover, I'd be thrilled. Again, Shockey's a great player. I wouldn't have bought my Dad an authentic Shockey jersey if I didn't like the guy. But this season is a perfect example of why we need to think about life without Shockey. Everybody tells me what a "warrior" Shockey is.....yeah, great, next time they start equipping the defense with shields and battleaxes, let's make sure to get Shockey back on the field. Until then, I'm good with a TE that runs a proper route and catches the ball. Regardless, next season is going to be different for Eli and Shockey. Eli's proven he can move the team without Tiki, and now the same goes for Shockey.

  20. Considering they had a better record than the G-Men, and beat us soundly this season, I can understand how they would be favored, especially up in Green Bay with an arctic front moving in. However, the Giants just knocked off the consensus NFC heavyweight on their home turf, and the Packers are the same team that got swept by the Bears. And in the 2nd Bears games, the weather was absolutely awful, and the Packers were thoroughly outplayed. So, there is reason for guarded optimism. In beating Miami, Chicago, Philly, and Buffalo in crappy conditions, the Giants have proven they are an effective poor-weather team. I was worried about the field until I remembered it's actually a heated field. If the field allows for some traction, then our pass defense can hopefully lean on the pass rush again. I felt that last week Eli would have to outduel Romo, and he did. This week, I think it will all come down to line play. If the Giants offensive line can turn in a performance like they did against Buffalo, then I think we've got a great shot to win the game.
  21. Questions for the Dog to ponder: Who had the better offensive line - Eli or Romo? Who had the better receiving corps - Eli or Romo? Who has had the better season - Eli or Romo? Just interested in your thoughts.
  22. Fan-fucking-tastic. THIS is why Reese didn't blow cap money on high-priced mediocrity in free agency.
  23. I saw that too, and was thinking the same thing.
