  1. i definitely don't view him the way you view wagner. hoffman has saved games in the playoffs before and i'm not going to go nuts about him blowing game 3 of a four game sweep in '98. i didn't watch tonight's game cuz it wasn't on extra innings, but he struck out 2 before giving up the triple so i have a hard time thinking the importance got in his head and he got nervous. my rule is that i never get mad at him for blowing regular season games cuz if you get mad at the guy who does his job in regular season games better than anyone in history then who can't you get mad at? however, i dont view him as lights out no matter what the situation is either. IMO he hasn't proven that he's fits either one of the descriptions you listed. if he fucks up in the playoffs i can no longer argue back at people who try to tell me he can't do it in the big spot (though i will still ridicule people who cite a blown game in the exhibition all-star game as supporting evidence). besides, if the pads don't make the playoffs now and that was his last appearance he definitely won't retire and i would think he would not demand a ton of money either
  2. yeah, im not going to get mad at a guy who saves games at a better percentage than anyone who ever lived, he can give one up once in a while.
  3. you should've gotten a vasectomy, faggot
  4. so the 'tiki barber rules' apply to fellow fans of your favorite team too huh?
  5. i couldn't watch the game last night cuz i was in ac for a couple of days, but boy did i have a playing poker with phillies fans and drunkenly talking mad shit to them as the pads kept increasing their lead
  6. haha good point, mo fits the minimum criteria though. he's hispanic and owns a glove
  7. gateb, the two best closers of all time are both free agents this season
  8. i think that during the offseason minaya was counting too much on sanchez returning and being just as good as he was in '06. maybe they would have not had so much turnover there had he known such an intregal part of the great '06 bullpen wouldn't be back
  9. sprained mcl. it couldn't have been that bad though if he's walking around without a limp or wrap less than two weeks after the injury. then again the dude's a freak of nature, i can't wait till he returns
  10. congrats guys, even though i never thought 14.5 in june was insurmountable it's still a really really impressive regular season.
  11. almost two weeks ago i read that jacobs was walking around with no wrap on his leg and no limp. so i would think he shouldn't be out any longer than one more game, then again im no doctor.
  12. their individual ages would make me feel better if they were a more consistent unit. i still think we are using the wrong philosophy when building a defense. IMO we should be signing established corners and drafting linebackers and linemen
  13. yeah i really should shut up. pads won 7 straight and still gained no ground in the NL west or some separation in the wild card standings, i can definitely see them going 5-2 this week and still not making the playoffs :brooding:
  14. personally i'd like to run the ball more when jacobs gets back so if i had my way jacobs would still get his carries without cutting too much into ward's workload. i still think jacobs is the better back but in the interest of preserving his health it looks like a committee is the direction we're headed
  15. is he native american? does he have polio? i need to know these things
  16. fox just signed a 5 year extension prior to last season and the owner loves him. it's not like we fired these guys, they got better job opportunities with other teams
  17. hoffman's a FA again, maybe this is omar's chance to right his wrong from two years ago. (though im sure he'll retire since he'll have a world series trophy in about 5 weeks)
  18. i see, that makes perfect sense as LA was the wildcard last season.
  19. i understand why people think there are no throwaway years or refuse to believe that a gm--even though he's protected by the fact that this is his first year--would see the season this way, they're not going to send that message to the fans who they want to buy tickets and attend games. but the fact is we signed one LB for a million bucks and that's it. TC's a lame duck and a bad coach--everyone except the ball-less wonders owners know it. a smart businessman does not invest more money in something that won't pay off. if we go 4-12 and coughlin is fired and reese gets his guy in there, just watch reese open the safe next offseason. and again, coughlin barely kept his job cuz he placed all the blame on injuries and players who won't shut up (tiki), so it's a perfectly plausible scenario that they said "ok, you got one year to show last year wasn't your fault with the same exact roster."
  20. way too many people jumped to conclusions, as usual, in may and june--including many yankee fans. when will people learn that 14 games is nothing when you have 100 games left to play?
  21. i dont think the season series tie-breaker applies to wild card ties. but the rules for the divisions are the same, pads and dodgers tied last season but the pads won the season series and therefore the division. i have no clue why the phils and mets flipped a coin
  22. pads are in almost the exact same situation as the yanks (except we have a slimmer wild card lead) but im still convinced they will overcome their one game deficit in the division in the next 10 days
  23. i doubt he wanted to intentionally lose, but if i had a coach on my team who i didnt think could bring us anywhere and i have the protection of being in my first year then yeah, i'd probably wait a year before investing more money in what i believe to be a can't win situation this season
  24. if we tank the season we did it a year too late. if we just tanked the 2nd half and not won that last game we'd have a new coach and we could've drafted patrick willis, aka 2007 defensive rookie of the year
