  1. that doesn't make him an ace. he had an abysmal may, a great july, a good august, and a bad september (save his last 3 starts--one run given up against bos, nyy, and tampa). does he have promise? sure, but right now he's their fifth starter and for good reason (halladay, burnett, chachin, mcgowan are in front of him). if anything i'd be more excited about mcgowan, the guy almost pitched a perfect game last season
  2. if peavy didn't pitch with shoulder tendinitis all season long in '06 that stat wouldn't exist. it's arguable at this point if even johan is better than him, i can't wait to find out now that they're both in the NL. the blue jays? halladay's an ace, burnett? on the cusp if he didn't get hurt so much. litsch? he was 7-9 with a 3.81 era, 50 k's in 111 IP. good pitcher, but i woudln't call him an ace. personally i like marcum and mcgowan better than him
  3. of course not, 89 wasn't enough for second place last season. still, i can't see how adding prior doesn't make what was, by far, the best pitching in baseball last season even better. penny always slows down in the 2nd half, and even so he's no peavy, just like lowe's no chris young. dodgers have some nice hitters, but who in that lineup's gonna make the all-star team? is a .220 hitter who hit half the hrs he hit a few years ago and a manager suddenly going to make them jump 3 teams? i dont see it. maybe loney and kemp are the real deal, but i feel safer relying on proven veterans who might not have a smuch upside but can still provide timely hitting. chase headly could end up better than those two youngins the dodgers have anyway
  4. vizquel's never hit 52, prior won 18 last time he was healthy--and all indications are that he finally is
  5. if mark prior is even 80% of what he was last time he was fully healthy, the NL west wont even be close

  11. would you guys take bonds on a one year deal?
  12. you should move to ny, we talk baseball on two radio stations and 5 newspapers 365 days a year
  13. yeah i read that too, great response by henry. the ortiz signed ball was a great touch--im sure george will love it
  14. let's see him do it for a whole season before we rush to judgment on who got the better of that deal--ryan grant would probably barely be ahead of ruben droughns on our depth chart

he had tommy john mid season i think, i would expect himt o miss the whole season
  16. i'd like to trade for hall, resign wilson and draft linebackers
  17. yeah but apparently mangini ONLY likes players who don't play well in the 3-4, it'll be hilarious if they can't trade dwayne robertson and they actually try to make him a 3-4 DE
  18. winning the division???? wasn't that the year they lost 4 straight to the sox in the playoffs?
  19. just a couple of quick comments cuz i honestly can't decide right now: you forgot maddux, he's the number 3, wolf is 4, and germano will be the 5 until prior comes back in may. honestly im hoping prior bumps wolf and not germano--he was only good for the first half but it was also by far his most extensive major league work, he was essentially a rookie (though not technically i dont think). as for chris young, it wasn't just a good first half, he was leading the majors in era by half a run (1.82, peavy was 2nd at 2.4-something) when he got hurt in august. he missed some time, rushed back for the playoff run but just wasn't right--similarly to how peavy pitched all season with shoulder tendinitis two seasons ago when the pads made the playoffs. his era from may 1st to august when he got hurt was 1.12--that's ridiculous. the NL cy young was a 2 man race for 4 out of 6 months of the season, and both guys were on the same team. i dont care about danny haren and brandon webb, as far as im concerned the only 1-2 that comes close is santana and pedro. im not going to throw the 'if' in there with pedro cuz i honestly think he's fine. one more note about young, he gave up 10 hrs--4 of them to tony clark. guess who's the pads backup 1st baseman this season :worshippy:
  20. if the other person is lonely too then we should just keep each other company
  21. im a fan of those rankings why couldn't the pads get that kind of respect when they were winning two division titles in a row?
  22. im with you 100%. those guys come first, but if we can retain these guys and add hall, why not? we're not rebuilding, we're a superbowl championship team--if we can get better NEXT season at the expense of a pick or two i don't think we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot. now if we were the dolphins? i'd be 100% against it, one cb at 10 mil a season on a lousy team (w/ or w/o him) is a waste of money and the picks are more valuable.
  23. we dont know that that's the case though.
  24. how many times can we get lucky in the draft? all the scouting in the world can't guarentee the player will be a pro-bowler--hall already is. we have to realize that we got extremely lucky with ross, cbs are generally a huge crapshot in the draft
