  1. well that is definitely wrong, im just talking about their strategy of winning the world series, selling everyone off, and starting over again every 4 years or so
  2. can't blame them. as long as their scouting is on point their strategy will work
  3. i agree w/ blue. he's far from flawless but his blocking his improved a lot since his rookie year making him more of an all-around te than a pass catching force, but i think his numbers would be way better on different teams or for different coaches
  4. he would help the yankees lineup more than almost any other player could, but i dont think anyone's goign to sign him until the case is resolved
  5. i'm trying to be fair to him but like i said, i'm reserving judgment till after the season is over. i've never disliked the guy's attitude. my main arguments last season was all the boneheaded gameday decisions, play calling, offensive system in general, the fact that he lost the locker room, the fact that he blamed injuries after declaring them a mental thing when he was hired and claiming he'd fix this so-called mental problem, and the penalties. but ownership gave him another chance, and so did the players, so i should too.
  6. im reserving judgment till the season is over, but like i said in another thread, if the season ended today and we lost in the first round i probably wouldn't fire him
  7. i get what you guys are saying, you need to careful who you bring in, but there's lot of risk in that rotation....
  8. it's good but i'd take the 97 and 2000 defenses before this one
  9. he made siragusa seem tolerable today--that's how annoying he was
  10. did he watch warmups or something? i think he might've alluded to it once or twice but i forgot, can someone help me out? darryl?
  11. cain is no longer a gamble, he's legit. lincecum is still unproven but he's shown flashes of brilliance
  12. on a neutral field i'd rather play seattle, but if the game's on the road tampa's the easy choice IMO
  13. i dont know the specifics of their contracts but i had been kind of reserving judgment on his handling of the offense until bonds was finally gone. i know they tried hard for aramis ramirez and soriana last season before finally taking bonds back, i'd love to see if there really is going to be a noticeable change in philosophy starting this offseason
  14. sabaen's too smart to deal one of those guys for an above-average OF who has a track record of a whole 2 years playing at that level. i wouldn't go as far as to say the alex rios' of the world are a dime a dozen, but they are certainly more available than the cain's and lincecum's
  15. on the back page of the news today it says the yanks want to rid themselves of one of their pricey players so they can get back into the santana sweepstakes (nice try hank, we all know you're once again getting called on your bluff). abreau is one of the guys pictured---um, why did you pick up his option?
  16. if the pitcher and hitter are equal you never trade the pitcher for the hitter. besides, they aren't equal, cain is better than rios already and lincecum is on his way to being better as well. rios is good but he wont get any better
  17. the media's just pissed that they no longer (presumably) have the santana story. notice how all the ny writers were singing the praises of hank steinbrenner last week for stepping up and taking control of the organization and now the same local media has turned on him cuz he killed the santana deal. what vested interest do these guys have in any potential trade except having a story to write about? the backpage of either the news or post today said "penny pinching cashman convinced hank that santana wasn't worth price". was he a 'penny pincher' when the same media was praising him all summer for drafting, grooming, and holding onto those pitching prospects?
  18. rios is nasty but no way i trade cain or lincecum for him. i'd rather take a flier on the japanese dude or one of the million OF's available
  19. who knows how these prospects will turn out. if maybin and miller are both all-stars in five years but detroit won a championship or was in the world series a few times then i'd have a hard time saying detroit lost the deal. none of the other 4 prospects are supposed to be worth anything anyway
  20. it's definitely a bluff, just like with a-rod
  21. Andy Pettitte, who had considered retirement after the 2007 season ended, will return in 2008 to pitch for the New York Yankees, the Houston Chronicle reported on Monday. Pettitte According to the report, his agent, Randy Hendricks, said he has advised the Yankees that Pettitte will come back. "Many teammates have called urging Andy to return as well as manager Joe Girardi," Hendricks said, according to the report. "It's well known that the Yankees have publicly stated that they were ready for Andy when Andy was ready." The Chronicle reported that it earlier learned from friends, former Houston Astros teammates and some current Yankees teammates that the left-hander would return. Pettitte pitched for the Yankees last season on a one-year, $16 million contract. He earlier declined a $16 million player option for 2008, but the Yankees have offered him salary arbitration. Pettitte has a 201-113 career record with a 3.83 ERA over 13 seasons with the Yankees and Astros. He went 15-9 with a 4.05 ERA in 36 starts in 2007.
  22. during the 20/20 they said that the yanks have officially offered hughes cabrera and a prospect for santana and that the twins are going back to boston to see if they'll give up lester, crisp and either ellsbury or bucholtz. if boston still refuses to throw in either of those last two then they are 'prepared to pull the trigger' on the yankees offer
  23. i was talking to a few met fans tonight who said that they heard on the radio that there's a rumor they made this trade to acquire someone that oakland, minny or baltimore wanted in a deal for one of their aces. take that for what it's worth
