Paxton Lynch to the Giants...

Would you be upset?

Reason I bring this up is that teams like the Giants, Chargers, Cowboys and obviously the Eagles and the rams are in need of a franchise QB... Some in more dire need than others of course... Yet I haven't seen a mock where any of these teams take the 3rd best QB in the draft...

Yes Eli has been a workhorse but he... Rivers... Big Ben... Romo etc don't have many years left.

I can see a scenario where the Giants take Lynch....

Discuss.

I've heard reports, not sure how true that the Giants are interested in Connor Cook or Kevin Hogan. So this thinking isn't that crazy. I don't think Lynch is that good though and the Giants can't afford "redshirting" a guy for three years. I think Lynch ends up at 34 with Dallas. The next few QB classes aren't great and a lot of analysts pointed to that in why the Eagles and Rams traded up for Goff and Wentz. Still the Giants could wait until finding Eli's replacement

I dont think Wentz/Goff/Whoever are even remotely close to being on the same skill level or being as NFL ready as Eli, "No means no", and pouty pants.

Even if for some reason the Eagles did something stupid and drafted Jack/Ramsey/Tunsil and Wentz dropped to number 10 the Giants shouldnt even consider it, although it would be an interesting discussion in the draft room.

Cook MAY be a better QB than Lynch, IMO, but there are very real concerns about his lack of leadership ability. And to me, his team not voting him as captain, as a three year starter... that is an issue. It means he probably didn't earn their respect to warrant that designation. And in the NFL, at the QB position, you have to be the hardest worker on that team. I've read he's basically Bo Callahan from Draft Day, the QB draft darling that GM Sonny Weaver of the Browns, played by Kevin Costner, found out that none of his teammates went to his birthday party, because he was such a douche bag.

Here is Cook blowing off Archie freaking Griffin - the guy just screams "Imma douche!"

Also, that Cook never had a 60% pass completion percentage also bothers me. Career 57.5% passer, and it actually decreased each year as starter... going from 58.7% his first season as starter, to 58.1%, to last year at 56.1%.

Contrast with Lynch who was jut the opposite, got better each year, fewer INTs, more TDs, and more volume of passes than Cook. Lynch was a 66.8% completion passer last year, and a 28-4 TD-INT ratio. That's pretty damn good. And sure you can give me level of comp but he had one of his best games against Ole Miss last season (did lay an egg against Auburn).

Given all that, I think Lynch is clearly the #3 QB in this draft, although Cook has undeniable tools that QB coaches find highly attractive.

All that said, there is no way the Giants should think about drafting a QB in this draft at all. They only have 6 picks, and they really need to hit on all of them to help this roster, because despite the great signings in free agency, the drafts being so historically bad over the past 6 years can leave this roster very thin if the injuries mount.

Further, Eli is going to play 4 more years at least, I really believe that. His contract is for 4 more years, and I think he may even sign an extension. So I'm not considering a QB backup to groom until next year at the earliest, ideally in 2 years. I'm hoping Nassib will re-sign but doubtful.

What I would love to do is trade back to someone to take Lynch and get extra picks, wouldn't mind that in the slightest.

He'll sit and learn to leave after 4 years and apply that knowledge somewhere else.

Yeah with rookie contracts now being basically capped at four years (fifth year option) teams cant really draft a higher round rookie and let him sit for a few years because he's gone the first chance he gets to start somewhere else.

Gone are the days of drafting a lineman in the 10th round letting him sit for six years and having a blue collar starter when he comes off the bench.

What are the chances of us trading up for Jalen Ramsey?

Very, very low. The Giants think one of the three safeties they've drafted in the last two drafts will be starting opposite Collins, and we have too many needs to cash in a bunch of picks for one guy. Bennett's the frontrunner.
