Nas Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I see your point and agree with it, BUT, I still feel drafting a DE in the first round was a midtake. Yes we have Stra retiring soon, and yes was to ensure he is replaced as seemlesly as possible, but if thats the argument we are using, there is another pretty valuble guy who's gonna be retiring in a few years. Tiki,,,and I'd say we were better situated to replace Stra than Tiki. All in all though, not a bad draft, the DE seems to be a solid promising player, just drafted in the wrong spot. shockjock Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 I like the fact that not only did we gather for the future but almost everyone of the players we took can make an impact this year Kiwi will get his chances on special teams and passing downs. Moss will likely win the third spot in camp and bring an important new dimension to the offense. Wilkinson will contribute as a backup and on specials. Cofield might be able to start at the two-gap spot by the middle of the season. Peprah will get his chances on specials and from the highlights I have seen McPherson is a pretty good ST gunner and a great athlete. Whimper is the only guy who will likely not see any significant playing time during the season, but he is going to see extensive action in preseason and has the ability to one day start for us. His weaknesses(mainly his poor technique and the fact that he only started one year at LT) are all correctable with coaching. But based on profiles I've read and based on reactions I've heard and read, I'd have to give this draft a C+/B-. I thought we would've been a little more agressive in pursuing a DT. I don't like the DE pick in round 1 at all. How many years did our defense succeed with one top notch DE? I think Osi is going to fill that role nicely. Having bookends in Osi and Strahan is really nice, but having just one sufficed for a long, long time. I really like the fact that we waited till the 2nd to get Moss. 420 Posted May 1, 2006 Share Posted May 1, 2006 Star Ledger Draft Grades NFC EAST GIANTS: Grade -- C-plus Comment: In what was almost certainly GM Ernie Accorsi's last draft, he wheeled-and-dealed his way down to DE Mathias Kiwanuka to end Round 1 and up to diminutive WR Sinorice Moss in Round 2, putting to use the most-difficult-to-spell theory. Kiwanuka doesn't fill an immediate need in this free-agency era of filling needs. Good value on Moss, who could be fun. Accorsi did better on Day 2, with DT Barry Cofield and OT Guy Whimper, good athletes at need spots. Eagles: Grade -- A Comment: These guys know what they're doing. DT Brodrick Bunkley is a disrupter inside and OT Winston Justice still fell to Philly in Round 2, a first-round value. On Day 2, coach Andy Reid cleaned up. G Max Jean-Gilles sounds like a hockey player but is actually a terrific fourth-round value. Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom was a fun choice in Round 5 as a small return man.
