I would be shocked if Nate Solder is a backup swing tackle for the NY Giants this season. He is starting.

Giants absolutely had to restructure Nate Solder. Cutting him this year was too expensive to consider, cutting him after June 1st doesn't help the Giants until June 1st. Forget that he is overpaid for the level of play since signing that contract and remember he can play better () than Cameron Fleming who is a free agent. Matt Peart can continue to get better as the swing tackle.

Now I read this article yesterday and the title instantly annoyed me, hope it annoys you too but she had at least one good point which I left above and some of you might find the rest of the article full of other ones. I would not use the Browns as a template for a turnaround and selectively point out two years while ignoring years of irrelevance. I can guarantee the Browns going 11-4 and reaching the playoffs is anomaly. I do agree with not paying for depth, it sounds like a no brainer.

The more a player can do, the more packages he’s going to be a part of, and the more snaps he’s likely to see in a game. While it’s true that it doesn’t matter who starts a game, what does matter in assessing the value of a football roster versus what was spent on it is what you’re getting in return for your investment. Take, for instance, linebacker David Mayo, whom the Giants cut last week. According to PFF, Mayo played 194 snaps on defense last year, yet he counted for $3.55 million against its 2020 cap. That’s about $18,298 per snap spent on a player who, by the way, had his roster spot usurped by a rookie (Tae Crowder) who had a cap hit of $538,867 and who played in 403 defensive snaps—a bargain rate of $1,337 spent per snap. Or how about tight end Levine Toilolo, who before his restructuring counted for $3.25 million against the cap last year but who took 276 snaps on offense ($11,775 per snap). Could the Giants have been able to get by with Kaden Smith, a guy they had on their roster the year before and who in 2020 played in 453 offensive snaps for the low, low rate of $675,000, or $1,490 per snap? And what about offensive tackle Nate Solder, who reportedly could be returning this year. Even if the Giants lower his base salary to the minimum($1.075 million), he would still count for approximately $7.675 million against the cap, a number that isn't horrible if he's starting at right tackle, but which would be rather hefty for a swing tackle.

Every season is a fresh start and an opportunity for players to get better or unfortunately worse. Lets see how the offseason plays out.

Yeah fans felt the same way about David Diehl too.

It is unfortunate but we have to keep moving forward and this is great opportunity for Hernandez & Lemiux. We'll definitely know what we have in those two next season. Personally I would have liked to have kept Zeitler last year was not his best season and if he is on the decline then it is hard to justify extending him for another three seasons. A lot of teams are in a similar position with their Guards making over $10 million a season and being over the cap.

They have to get the deal done to free up some space for free agency. If they can't get it done by the draft, cut him loose.

Makes sense, Cody Core became a prohibitively expensive special teams player coming back from IR. Don't understand why Levine Toilolo is still on the roster. He would be out of the league if he didn't restructure.

PFF didn't like one thing about Lemieux. As far as the eye test, didn't see a difference between the two. I didn't think he was better or understood why he stayed out there after Hernandez came back from Covid.

Tae Crowder didn't stay irrelevant for long, it is his time now.

More like addition by subtraction. Never understood why they signed him to begin with. Have to wonder if the Giants are going to try and get a bigger receiving target at some point.

I think it was firing Tom Coughlin and keeping Jerry Reese. Giants hired a coach in the image of Tom Coughlin and drafted a QB in the image of Eli Manning. Hard to win games with the wrong coach and Giants have made that mistake twice costing them four years of progress.

I was kind of hoping he'd retire, still I think the Giants can get him to restructure. It is certainly better than just cutting him outright.

I recall hearing Williams talk about how this wasn't about the money, he has already made plenty of money but about respect. "I think for me, I'm not the type of person that likes to bounce around a lot," Williams told ESPN. "I like to be stationary and comfortable on the team, and also like to win. I'd like to be able to stay on this team and hopefully be a part of the rebuilding process to get this team back to a winning program again. "I don't think the money matters as much for me. Obviously, I want to get paid, as every player wants to. This is a business now. He has always been an average tackle who played for an above average team. I never expected him to elevate the play of the rest of the offensive line which is why I'm not disappointed by his performance so far. Paying an average player more does not make him better at his position. I'm just glad Flowers isn't here anymore.

Keep all the guys we want and get the best available in free agency to replace them. Not sure if the Giants will cut Zeitler at this point. They could have traded him for a bag of peanuts mid season and kept him knowing they would be at this moment. Giants are going down the path of contract extension and get some cap space that way. Ok so back to Nate Solder, I say we keep him too. He has already been paid and cheaper to cut next year. I do not expect the Giants to be actively pursuing top tier talent this year through free agency.

Isn't this crazy? Not many teams fire their head coach and trade away their franchise QB within three years of a super bowl win. How does Howe Roseman still have a job?

I wonder if he is going to retire or go for a one year deal on a championship team.

I remember when he was heralded as a hero. For all his flaws, he remains a great player. I see a player ruled by his passions and emotions. I don't see a diminished player but one who has to harness his emotions and focus. I think about when Minnesota cut Moss and Oakland traded him for peanuts there was a misconception at the time that Randy Moss was done in the NFL. If Odell can regain that focus and put the team ahead of himself, you will see his best is still ahead.
