  1. Think about how many more games we would have won last year if our D could have come up with one more late stop.
  2. Eli not getting sacked much last season doesn't tell the whole story. He was hit and hurried way too often. I remember the complaints here that we didn't go deep often enough - and in fact, I saw an article recently quoting Harris (I think), saying they want to throw deep more this year - but the OL didn't give Eli enough time for deep routes to develop......and God knows, we couldn't run the ball worth a damn. Short drops and quick releases masked a weak OL (esp the right side) last year.
  3. You mean like this? Modal Trigger
  4. Yes, he's under contract to the 49ers and his tweets sound like he's eager to rejoin his former teammates.....but he's also been in an open war with the GM and 49er front office and it's questionable whether they will welcome him back. Question is, does he go back and have a kumbaya make nice reunion or try to effect a trade?
  5. He's not done yet and the next few years could be his best statistical years! Add say, three years of stats as good or better than last year to his two Super Bowl MVPs and yes, I believe he gets in. Or, if he has so-so years statistically but wins another Super Bowl. That would get him in, too. And if both those things come to pass, he's a no doubt, first ballot guy.
  6. I guess that's the "reason" but I agree - if Beatty is still sitting there, assuming he's been working out and is healthy, why not at least bring him in to compete with Newhouse?
  7. I knew you'd go straight there! Means he won't be thrown in the deep end before he's ready, ala Flowers last year (though he held his own). As we've been saying, you need at least 3 solid corners these days and we had little/no depth behind Jenkins and R-Cromartie. He'll be on the field a lot and eventually, he'll be a starting corner, a contributor for many years.
  8. So apparently, Flowers was not a fan of Pat Flaherty but thinks new OL Coach Solari is a "great coach". Interesting and optimistic article from today's Post. Schwartz also sees top three picks as major contributors. http://nypost.com/2016/06/16/giants-ereck-flowers-sounds-thrilled-his-old-coach-is-gone/ Giants’ Ereck Flowers sounds thrilled his old coach is gone By Paul Schwartz June 16, 2016 | 11:28pm It is easy to rustle up great words and the utmost respect for Pat Flaherty, the former Giants offensive line coach for two Super Bowl winning teams. Check in with Chris Snee, Shaun O’Hara, Rich Seubert or David Diehl. They will sing the praises of the assistant they affectionately call “Flats.’’ When Ben McAdoo replaced Tom Coughlin as head coach, about half of Coughlin’s staff was re-interviewed and retained, but Flaherty was not. He currently is coaching the 49ers offensive line, hired by Chip Kelly. McAdoo opted to go with Mike Solari, a longtime NFL coach who has worked with offensive lines for the Packers, 49ers, Seahawks, Chiefs and Cowboys. Clearly, at least one member of the Giants’ offensive line is happy about the change. It is no secret Ereck Flowers, as a rookie, did not always appreciate Flaherty’s style and motivational techniques. “It is a good adjustment, in every way,’’ Flowers said of Solari. “All of his techniques and different drills and everything he does. He is a great coach.’’ Flowers had plenty of technical issues to clean up coming out of Miami, and the 2015 first-round pick had an uneven first NFL season, showing exceptional toughness battling through a nagging ankle injury. His hand placement, though, was a mess. Perhaps Solari holds the key to taking Flowers’ development. There are those who believe this move is more than cosmetic, and that Solari, 61, will be a difference-maker. “They’ve got a great offensive line coach there in Mike Solari,’’ said Dan Shonka, general manager and national scout for Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services. Shonka worked with Solari with the Chiefs and feels he might be the most important addition the Giants made all offseason. “This guy is great,’’ Shonka said. “If these guys can play, he’s gonna squeeze every bit of the talent and technique out of these guys. He’s one of the top five offensive line coaches, very technique oriented, very detailed guy. If these guys have some talent he’s gonna get it.’’ Flowers has talent. Asked if it is fair to say Flowers seems happier working under Solari than he did with Flaherty, one player said, simply, “That’s fair.’’ Giants’ picks set for success It takes a few years to properly evaluate a draft class, so it is silly to make any pronouncement after six or seven weeks. But (you knew there would be a “but”) it is not too early to offer an admittedly hot-take prediction for the 2016 draft picks. It would be shocking if the Giants’ top three picks do not have a major impact this season. Darian Thompson (third round) has the inside track to start at free safety. Sterling Shepard (second round) is a remarkably savvy and well-schooled receiver. Eli Apple (first round) is clearly a top athlete, and he will not be forced in too quickly as a first-team cornerback. There are many dots to connect before the Sept. 11 date with the Cowboys, but the signs are pointed in the right direction for the Giants.
  9. True.....but Newhouse is better than using cap space on someone who lives on the IR. I'd be very wary and if signed, make it incentive heavy. Still, as Gmenroc says, good to know they are still looking to upgrade.
  10. I was surprised to hear how poorly Flowers graded out. Eyeball test, sure I saw struggles here and there but he didn't look overmatched, by any means. In a perfect world, with a loaded OL, he's probably better suited for RT but he's a fierce competitor, with a nasty demeanor and has the tools to be an excellent LT. File this under: least of our problems.
  11. I think Spags will find something for him to do.
  12. They were converting all over the field! Giants were dead last in 3rd down % against AND dead last in yards allowed in the air, giving up 240 yards more than the next to last team (Saints). That's a lot more than RBs catching the ball in the flat.
  13. Would have preferred Tunsil, too.....but if he can be as good as the two corners we have, I'll take that all day long! I'm still having nightmares, seeing receivers running free through our secondary, esp on 3rd downs!.
  14. That's a good point. We paid heavily for Baas and Schwartz, for instance, because they were the best available, not, as it turned out, because they were all that good.
  15. Those were exactly my thoughts as I read the article (which is quite good).
  16. Paid propaganda is more like it. Don't have a reasoned discussion about the wisdom of jumping into a war, just wave the flag and maybe chant "USA" while you're at it. (sorry if this post is more suitable for P&R)
  17. What I remember about Fewell's blitzes is that they took forever to get there! They seemed to start from way the f*ck out in right field and might as well have been counting elephants for all the time it took them to get near the pocket.
  18. Good point....and LOL! Sadly true!
  19. So when we play three corners, Jenkins is the slot guy. Apple will play.
  20. Yeah, you're right, of course. I swear I read that somewhere this week, though. Flashbacks,maybe.... Still hoping for Davis +1.... or ABM&J - anybody but Marshall & Jerry.
  21. But with new management in place in SF, maybe the logjam loosens up a bit, maybe they'll take a 4th rounder (or whatever) for his rights and just move on. Certainly worth checking out and I'm sure JR is. Okung coming in for a visit today and he'd be an upgrade over Marshall, I guess....but I'd rather have Davis.
  22. Top priority for me is OL. Yes, I'd love a LB but I'm hoping the drastically improved DL will keep the LBs cleaner, hoping Kennard stays healthy and it's not a glaring weakness. I have no such hopes for Marshall and Jerry.
  23. I think Will Hill and taking a look at the Josh Gordon escapades scared them off.
