  1. We're all giddy about picking in the top 5, especially after nailing our selection (or trade) for Eli last time we were in the top 5... but as fan, we need to prepare ourselves for the very distinct possibility that even a top 5 pick can be a bust. If you look at the "bust" rate or underachievement rate of top 5 picks in the past 10-15 drafts, I'd venture to guess it's higher than you might expect. Like 25-40%. Remember the draft where Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, and Carnell Williams went 2, 4, and 5 respectively? Just one example. The draft is a crapshoot. There is no "sure thing." Even though the success rate of players is generally commensurate with round drafted, even the high picks have a fair rate of underachievement or bust.
  2. I think that's his ceiling, and max end side of the range between Reggie Bush and James, barring injury or off the field incident.
  3. As I said before, worst case, he's a bigger version of Reggie Bush. Best case, Edgerrin James or Todd Gurley. I still say Gallman is tougher overall.
  4. I'm not an offensive line expert or anything...but I know that contact with the other player and/or getting in the other player's way is needed in order initiate a block.
  5. I'm just not sure how many teams are going to be interested in a guy who has at least 4-5 plays per game where he literally doesn't touch the defender he's assigned to, and instead runs around in a circle.
  6. Indeed. Can we please stop taking players from the U not named Shockey?
  7. Why would it show that? Meaning you think the giants prefer to trade down and draft a Tackle like McGlinchey or Kolten Miller?
  8. I would have taken that punter from the other thread for Flowers...seriously. Not kidding at all. Might as well get something for it, and move $4.6mm off the books to extend Beckham and/or add another FA.

  10. Yeah lets blindly rely on Webb, who we dont know a thing about...cause these types of QBs who fell in the draft are a shoe in... the next Tom Brady. Always good to stake your entire franchise on the likes of: Ryan Nassib Rhett Bhomar Andre Woodson Jesse Palmer Danny Kannell Etc. Before you jump on me, Im not saying a 1st rounder is necessarily a lock either. Just that there is a high degree of uncertainty with our future QB situation and we dont know what we have. By the way, watch Webbs tape, then go watch Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Goff, Wentz. Etc to make recent QBs. Heck go watch tape of Mahomes too. In a historically QB shallow draft of 2017 (that was only 2nd worst to 1996), Webb was drafted towards the end of the third round).
  11. Plus likely a draft pick in rounds 2-4
  12. I've watched some Darnold and USC football. He seemed much better in 2016 than he did in 2017. Obviously the turnovers are an issue, as is his elongated arm motion where he drops the ball down is an issue,. I always thought he was a decent prospect...but nothing to gush and get giddy about. He is clearly much better when throwing towards the middle of the field than at the sides, and I fear DC's will pick up on that. Also, he made a lot of dumb pass plays where he simply threw a timing route based on the play call, despite the fact that defenders were clearly in the way to bat it down or pick it off, and overall I think his ability to work through progressions is average. He can improvise though when he gets moving. He has good mobility, and can even run with it when necessary and pick up pretty good chunks of yardage. One scout called him a "Take what the defense gives you" kind of QB, and I think that fits him nicely. I think he's going to need a good supporting cast and line around him, and unlike Eli, isn't going to make his WRs/TE's better; Darnold needs talent all around him. My take is, he's likely to be a solid starter, however will be highly inconsistent, but with the potential to go on a run. That said, I could very easily see him as the next Ryan Tannahill. Just good enough to start for a team, but only good enough to go 8-8 and have a modest offense at best.
  13. Those are underachievers. Brees, Wilson, and to an extent Keenum are all examples of recent success. It's always an uphill battle for short QB's, but it is possible.
  14. Another analyst was saying he thinks Baker Mayfield is the best among the four. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/04/nfl_draft_2018_baker_mayfield_is_top_qb_plays_like.html#incart_river_index

  16. His college tape is quite inconsistent, and college stats don't tell the entire story.
  17. Perhaps. Another possibility is, on 3 and 3, he's a huge headache for DC's because you could put him in motion and/or run a pass pattern with him, or run him to the flanks where he could be deadly. Even another possibility is DC's have to stack the box because of him, freeing up our WR's and/or Engram with favorable matchups.
  18. I question Barkley's toughness and push inside. I think it's just average at best. Everything else about him is top notch though, and is especially dangerous if you get him out in space, and is a headache for DC's to plan against. The worry there though is, is he just a bigger version of Reggie Bush then? I think his floor is Reggie Bush/Freeman McNeil, best case Edgerrin James or Todd Gurley.
  19. I think Gallman could be a 250+, 1,000 yard rusher, and decent receiver if we gave him a line and the chance. Though, as I said in another thread, if the browns take Darnold at #1, my preference as of late would be to pick Barkley #2. The two would be a great tandem. I also think Gallman, despite his relatively smaller size, is a tougher RB than Barkley.
  20. My Giants Mock: 1 - RB Saquon Barkley (I am assuming Darnold is taken by the browns #1 overall). 2 - C/G Frank Ragnow, Arkansas (ideally can play RG from day one, and offers backup insurance at C) 3 - SS/OLB Kyhzir White, West Virginia (can be used as a sub package/nickel/dime backer in the new defensive scheme, similar to Deone Buchanan, and/or eventually converted to a linebacker like Thomas Davis) 3 (2nd pick in this round) - CB Parry Nicholson, Tulane 4 - WR Cedric Wilson, Boise St 5 - DE John Franklin-Myers, Stephen F Austin
  21. Right. I was about to say also like Eli Manning. Potentially inconsistent like Eli with but also with the potential to go on an epic run.
  22. Darnold's ceiling, I think, is likely that of a Matt Ryan type player. Not spectacular but a capable, quality starting QB in the league.
  23. Last time we took a chance on a prior draft pick but inexperienced player who was waiting in the wings to be the next Giants QB was Dave Brown. In fact, in his first year, we drafted a RB in the first round too. Howd that story end? Im not ruling out Webb as a potential starter, but its a huge risk to put all of our eggs in this unproven basket.
