  1. My Giants Mock: 1 - RB Saquon Barkley (I am assuming Darnold is taken by the browns #1 overall). 2 - C/G Frank Ragnow, Arkansas (ideally can play RG from day one, and offers backup insurance at C) 3 - SS/OLB Kyhzir White, West Virginia (can be used as a sub package/nickel/dime backer in the new defensive scheme, similar to Deone Buchanan, and/or eventually converted to a linebacker like Thomas Davis) 3 (2nd pick in this round) - CB Parry Nicholson, Tulane 4 - WR Cedric Wilson, Boise St 5 - DE John Franklin-Myers, Stephen F Austin
  2. Right. I was about to say also like Eli Manning. Potentially inconsistent like Eli with but also with the potential to go on an epic run.
  3. Darnold's ceiling, I think, is likely that of a Matt Ryan type player. Not spectacular but a capable, quality starting QB in the league.
  4. Last time we took a chance on a prior draft pick but inexperienced player who was waiting in the wings to be the next Giants QB was Dave Brown. In fact, in his first year, we drafted a RB in the first round too. Howd that story end? Im not ruling out Webb as a potential starter, but its a huge risk to put all of our eggs in this unproven basket.
  5. He's not even as close of a prospect to Darnold. You might be suffering from Jet's QB Draft Syndrome. The ill advised assumption that the QB drafted is going to be a good one purely because the team drafted him ("Obviously the Jet's know something about this guy that everyone else doesn't.")
  6. Maybe so...but what I worry about it putting all of our cards in one or two seasons (i.e. "win now") and not planning well for the future. Darnold is planning well for the future, Barkley or Nelson is "win now."
  7. They were a playoff caliber team, an up and coming team that went 8-8 and 10-6 respectively then, not 3-13 now. 2018 is more like 2004, where we were coming off a disastrous year and drafted in the top 5. How many people had us winning the super bowl in 2004?
  8. Darnold, Barkley, and Nelson are the safest top 5 picks in my assessment, but Darnold obviously comes with the caveat that he very likely doesn't help the Giants on any potential championship run this year, while Barkley and Nelson are obvious early starters/contributors and would contribute on any potential run. At the same time "any potential championship run" is a real reach in my opinion for this giants team, which is why I prefer Darnold over Barkley at #2, if I had to choose between the two. I just don't see a championship next year and we have to plan for the post-Eli era.
  9. Lately, my take is: If Darnold is there at #2, you take him. If not, if Barkley is there, you take him. Im not that high on these other QBs (except maybe Mayfield) and also cant see the Giants trading down away from either of those two players above.
  10. The grade on Gettlemen's offseason remains to be seen. He's definitely tried to address the OL and LB situation, areas which were severly lacking, which is good to see. I'm encouraged by the right prioritization, but at the same time, one possibility is that Solder and Omameh end up not as good as we'd hope or expect. Still, another possibility is they are very solid for us for at least a few years.
  11. Really? If you watch the tape of Walton closely, most of the highlights are simply him running through enormous holes from the offensive line. I wasn't all that impressed.
  12. Assuming Darnold goes #1 overall, if Nelson is a potential perennial pro bowler, Id have no problem with taking him. Id prefer him at 5 in a trade down, but wouldnt be upset with 2. Im just very luke warm on Rosen, Mayfield and Allen, and not sure about Barkley without an offensive line. Otherwise, if Darnold is there at 2, I say take him.
  13. Would have been nice if we put together a comparable contract, like 3 years 11 mil. Oh well.
  14. Again. Its someone elses fault they didnt vet his background? Lol
  15. So theyre incompetent...exactly.
  16. So the eagles didnt vet the background of a guy they signed....and thats someone elses fault?
  17. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/ct-spt-michael-bennett-arrest-warrant-20180323-story.html Warrant issued for Eagles' Michael Bennett on a felony count of injury to the elderly
  18. Speaking of Reese's consistent failures in the 3rd round, Bromley has yet to be signed. Looks like he's yet another failure soon to be out of the league.
  19. Trades don't necessarily correspond to the draft chart values, which are just estimates themselves. The price of the draft pick and trade is the price that the buyer is willing to pay and that the seller is willing to sell at. And If I'm the Giants, I use that to my advantage. I tell the Bills, if you want the #2, here's what it will take. Otherwise, good luck watching as the Jets, Browns, and/or Broncos potentially drafting the guy you want. My overarching point though was, just because the Jet's traded up, I still wouldn't rule out a large variety of other potential trade scenarios for the giants.
  20. How about their two 1st rounders and their 2nd rounder this year, and next years 1st and 2nd rounder?
  21. There could be trade up scenarios among other teams for other players as well, e.g. Barkley, Chubb, Fitzpatrick, Nelson etc. Not that any of them are necessarily worthy of the #2, but when you have other teams jamming up the top 5-6 of the draft, it might incent teams to do what they must to get the player they want (at least in theory). Also, I wouldn't rule out the Bills putting together a massive package including their 12, 21, 2nd rounder and future picks. Also, many of the trade scenarios and team interest likely depends on who the browns draft and don't draft with their #1 overall pick. For instance, I think the interest from teams changes if the Browns pass on Barkely. I still say we shouldn't pass on Darnold if he's there. If not, I recommend trading down, and I am increasingly luke warm on Mayfield, Rosen, and especially Josh Allen.
  22. Ahh, I did not realize about the arrest.
