STRAHAN TO PLAX: YOU QUIT

NYHC GIANT

Recommended Posts

November 29, 2006 -- Giants defensive end Michael Strahan has come down hard on receiver Plaxico Burress for his lack of effort in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Titans.

Burress failed to run hard on an overthrown pass from Eli Manning in the fourth quarter that was intercepted by cornerback Pacman Jones. Burress then made a half-hearted attempt at tackling Jones, who easily escaped for a 26-yard return.

"It's a shame, because Plaxico is a great player and a good guy to be around, but at the same time you're judged by your actions on the field and you can't give up, you can't quit, because you're not quitting on yourself, you're quitting on us," Strahan said Monday on his weekly WFAN appearance. "We work too hard all together to have that type of stuff happen, and Plaxico is one of the guys who works hard.

"I don't quite understand what his motivation is, or what his lack of motivation is in those type of situations. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to see what it is and try to see if I can talk to him about it.

"He's too great of a player to have people look at him and think he's a quitter. Don't be labeled as a guy who's a sometimes player, I-play-when-I-want-to type of attitude. He's too good for that."

Want to hear the weird thing? I was just looking for this article and couldn't find it, and was gonna post seeing if someone found it.

I heard Plax's comments back to Strahan... basically saying he didn't agree, didn't know why he'd say that, and that you shouldn't air your dirty laundry to the media.

Gee... why would Strahan say that?

I agree with Strahan 100%

This entire team is in shambles, the players are turning against each other, the coaches and players hate each other. We need a whole new crop of coaches.

I think Stahan's comments were innocent enough, but it should have stayed in house, pretty soon everyone will run to the media when a guy drinks all the kool aid.

I do NOT have a problem with Stray's comments nor the fact he told that to the media. If Plax is not going to go all out on the field then SOMEONE should front him off. Maybe next time he will give 100% (or Stray can dogg his ass harder in the press. Fuck it!).

...and honestly, I am thru with these fake ass statements that some players give to the media. Seems like Stray, Tiki and Shockey are "keepin it real". What else was Stray supposed to say when asked if he thought Plax 'quit' on that INT (and cost the Giants the game).???

I'm sick of this kind of stuff staying "in house". It is about time that players stepped up and called out those who aren't doing their job. And if it takes public humiliation, public condemnation to get the message across far be it from me, a fan who isn't in the locker room, isn't in the team meetings, to condemn a player for trying to get the message across.

I supported Tiki when he called out the coaches after the playoff loss.

I supported Shockey when he called out the coaches AND the players for the loss to Seattle.

I supported Tiki calling out the coaches for hardly using him against Jax.

And I continue to support the players based on their criticism, AND team officials criticism, against the coaching staff and players who underperform.

I have more faith in that little chippie of yours coming out of the water than Jay Feehly. One thing about the Prostitute is that he has no compunctions about finding a scapegoat and getting rid of him (e.g. Vanderjaht)

Yea...that "In house" term is soooo overused! Fuck, this new millenium of coverage is massive! It's hard to keep stuff "In house" because there's SOOOOO many cameras and NFL shows, it's ridiculous. If I was Stray and had 45 reporters askin' me about Plax's attitude...I'd 'spill the beans' too IF it was true. Plax knows he's a fuck up and no one has ever called him out except for Stray. Good job Stray. Fuck Plax, he aint the nucleus of this team anyway!

A guy like Harry Carson would have diagnosed his shit from day one and applied some corrective action. Something like "motherfucker I have been in this league too long on too many losing teams for you to fuck up my chances at the playoffs and the SuperBowl. We are not gonna put up with your half-assed bullshit no more". LT would have just said "I am going to kick your fucking ass for you so bad"; Banks would have been cerebral about it and said "your lack of positive motivation is seriously impacting upon the chances of this team winning"; Van Pelt would have just given him a dirty look and smacked him upside his fucking head.

Strahan went over the top on that reporter yesterday. He came off real bad.

I agree with you; Carson or any of the old time guys would not have done it that way. First he rightly calls out the guy for being a malcontent; but then he wants to jump all over a reporter for attempting to verify if he actually spoke to the creep or not. All I can say it is a real bad scene over in Giants land right now. Number one instead of a unity meeting these cats should have had an old-fashioned call out session. Opie what's up with those interceptions....Flaxico get your lazy ass in gear....Walker and the rest of you scrubs, you guys cannot keep losing games for us with dumb ass plays...Kiwi, next time you lay that motherfucker out you here...Tiki keep it focused on the Giants, you have not left yet...etc. Everybody focus on your jobs and the ultimate goal playoffs/SuperBowl.

yeah but if she wasn't a woman it wouldn't be an issue. just another player blaming the media instead of the newspapers calling him a bully

Forget the woman part Midas, he was bumbling and stumbling and looking to blow off steam without giving any thought to what he was saying. And why single out the woman?

well i didn't hear him speak, i read and heard the quote and i know the woman is who got strahan mad. apparently she was the only one who saw his quote as a potential story and i think that's why he singled her out

I listened to Strahan on Monday. He never said anything bad about Plax. The reporter tried to stir up trouble by confronting Plax and twisting what Strahan said. I believe Strahan said "if a player were to quit, he needs to realize that he's quitting on us too". I don't blame him for getting upset with that fucking instigating reporter.
