Giants have till 4pm to tag Collins otherwise he'll be a FA.

Reports are he is hitting free agency as the Giants don't have the cap number to resign Collins for what he wants or what the tag is worth, while trying to sign draft picks and any decent free agents.

GG JR way to put this team in cap hell.

Only player in the NFL with 400 tackles and 30 passes defended since 2015 ( with 95 tackles in each of the last 4 seasons ) ........it will be a shame to see him go IMO

Who else have we got at safety FFS ?

Well we could tag him for one year miss out on any decent free agents just to have him walk next year.

He won't play for this team if they tag him after the year, he's already been vocal about holding out if he's tagged.

Or throw some massive contract on him with a bunch of money in the signing bonus and back load the contract so the first few years is team friendly but the last few would be like 18 million a year.

Its a good decision. Hes a linebacker playing strong safety.

It's a shame too, if the Giants didn't need him to play inside the box, he might of developed into a better overall safety.

His 2016 year was fucking insane, that's the player you pay 10+ million a year.

If this was any other team no one would care, it would be "Oh they didnt have the cap space"

Now with the Giants it's "THEY COULD OF DONE SOEMTHING REAL TEAMS KNOW HOW TO MANIPULATE THE CAP!?!?!?! WHY DIDNT THEY CUT ELI/VERNON/JENKINS AND TRADE OBJ TO KEEP COLLINS"

"WHY DIDNT THEY TRADE HIM LAST YEAR?!?!?"

lol New York Media.

Good article up on bleacher report about how safety's don't get paid in the NFL especially SS who play mostly in the box.

The Bears don't tag Amos who is known as the better safety in the market this year, can cover, tackle, do it all, yet the Bears don't receive any flack.

The Giants let a guy go they can't afford and it's hysteria.

Amos wasn't a team captain but Collins was. Amos was a fifth round pick and Collins was a second round pick. Most importantly: Bears finished 12-4 while the Giants finished 5-11 so when your team is bad fans tend to get upset with plans to make it worse.

Those are a few of the reasons for the response.

Which us why you think the Bears would want to keep a key piece of their defense, and a guy who was so cheap to grab.

If Collins was a leader he wasn't doing a good job of it, that defense wasn't able to rally at all last year, talent or not.

Once again the Giants just getting flak because they are the NY media team.

The Bears have Khalil Mack and we have who again? They can afford to let a guy go on defense, who knows they may have their eyes on an upgrade.

Who is the top player on the NY Giants defense?

Oh I see cause Mack is the only player on that defense OK. I guess they could just take 10 guys off of the street and out them next to Mack and keep playing at a playoff level.

What place did the Giants defense place again? 30? 31?

Really wish we had a guy like Collins to make it better and lead that defense like he's been doing the last four years it's place bottom of the NFL.

Or maybe a pass rushing specialist is more important in today's NFL then a strong safety who can't play the pass well.
