  1. LOL...do you just say things that sound convenient?? If theres one thing this kid has, is GREAT instincts, and he's one hell of an athelete. Is he a bit of a head case? Yes, thats his knock. But if theres any organization that can handle someone like Burfict, its the Giants.

Now, you all can read what the reporters and media say, but take it from someone who lives in the state he plays in, its not as bad as stated. Ive NEVER missed an ASU game, and Burficts is one of the better LBers Ive ever seen play. Does some REAL stupid shit, but that can be changed.

Im with Pdub, wouldnt be upset at taking him, as long as its not our 1st pick.

If it was one or two sources that were saying it, I might give him a pass. If there were some disagreement coming from somewhere or if there was anything being said from anywhere that was in opposition to what's been stated about him so far...then he might get a pass. But all in all, there are multiple sources claiming that he's a bit of a reckless idiot.

I have loved Williams since day 1, lol so that's why I have a slight biased for him. But everything I've seen so far I've liked.

Remember that hes extremely raw and still did a great job in his role and really helped us win the SB. As a raw rookie with no training camp or OTAs and playing on pure instincts and athletic ability.

I think he'll pan out, maybe "beast" is an overstatement, so point taken.

I'm really confident that Jaquain Is a good player for us moving forward. Definately a guy that's not going anywhere anytime soon.

no doubt he's shown promise and is clearly in the #3 spot behind Boley and Kiwi and clearly ahead of Jones, Paysinger, and Herzlich at this point.

  3. Yep JaQuain Williams is gonna be a real nice LB for years to come for us.

Jones, Herzlich, Paysinger showed us nothing. Jones wa solid on STs along with Paysinger and Herzlich flashed a few times but overall showe very little. Maybe one of those 3 step up and provide solid depth next year. It's safe to say JaQuains gonna be a beast for us at this point though.

Not sure that Williams will be a beast per se, but he showed enough to evoke some confidence that he'll at least be solid. Jones, Herzlich, Paysinger...we'll know for sure after 2012/13. A shortened offseason and injuries to the starters threw these guys into a role they were clearly unprepared for. With adequate preparation and a little extra time, we'll be able to evaluate for sure. I'd still like Goff back with a draft pick.

Unfortunately, this seems to spell the end for Blackburn...again.

  4. Yeah, I haven't read a single review on him that hasn't mentioned serious character flaws coupled with extreme levels of freelancing and no real discipline whatsoever on OR off the field.

Sounds like more of a headache than what he'd be worth.

I think we were all pleasantly surprised by our LBers this past season, especially with Goff and Sintim going down so early. Not saying they set the world on fire by any means, but they weren't as much a detriment that we all feared they'd be...and they did show improvement as the year went by. I still would like a mid round draft pick on a LB, but certainly not a first or second.

  5. At the end of the day, I'm not overly comfortable letting just Barden and Jerrigan compete for the 3rd WR spot. If Devin Thomas or Dominik Hixon come back, I'm slightly more confident that we'll be just fine without MM. I still wouldn't mind a later round draft pick on a WR.

To the poster who commented that the Giants have the luxury of being able to let him walk without missing a whole lot, I agree. He was a VERY, VERY good 3rd WR. He could probably be a mediocre to good #2. If he was the least bit intelligent, he could probably be a #1 on SOME team. But I agree too with those who've said that he'll probably not reach his full potential.

That said, he did some good things for us and I wish him the best...right up until we meet him again, at which point, I hope we knock his fucking head off.

  6. If Carr did in fact leave I'd personally try to get Henne if he ends up being cut from Miami, if Henne was in the mindset of accepting an obvious back-up role.

I'd be okay with that, so long as he was able to grasp the offense quickly.

  7. I think Scott has a lot of upside... Yes he fumbled a couple of times but so did Bradshaw and Tiki before him.. get that fixed and we may have a really good RB in him.

I'll give you that. I'd be more inclined to get rid of Ware than Scott, that much is certain. Bradshaw, Jacobs, Scott, draft pick

  8. I just think if it had any chance of happening it would have already. I mean, Tavaris Jackson is the starter in Seattle and IMO there's no way Carr is worse than Alex Smith, at least given his absolutely pitiful performance in the NFC Championship.

I agree in that Carr's chances to start are pretty much dried up. But then I look at some of these teams who could definitely use a starting QB...and you just never know.

Granted, I think the Colts are going to, and should, draft Andrew Luck...and turn over the keys to him. But don't you think the Colts would've loved to have Carr in place of Painter this season? Or Cleveland wanting Carr over McCoy? Or Arizona wanting Carr over the bum they signed from Philly? I don't know. I'm pretty much resigned to calling Carr a backup, but I look at a lot of teams who are starting less than that on any given Sunday.

  9. 1.Coby Fleener or Mohamed Sanu

2.Doug Martin or Jayron Hosely CB Va Tech or Lavonte David LB Nebraska

3.Donnie Fletcher CB BC or Brandon Boykin CB UGA or LaMichael James RB Oregon

4.Matt McCants OT UAB or Shaun Prater CB Iowa

5.Moe Petrus C/G UConn or Nate Potter OT Boise St.

6.Adrien Cole ILB La Tech or Levy Addock OT Ok St.

    7.Devon Wylie WR Fresno St.

I like McCants...hadn't read anything on him prior to seeing your post...Nate Potter on the other hand, I've read good things and some pretty bad things, which would give me pause, even in the 5th round.

  10. We still have the same RB corp from last year... I don't see why it's suddenly a need.. I'm expecting BJ to restructure of course. I think TE/OL in first round... unless Burfict is there and the Giants feel they can tame his character issues... which I think is overblown.

I think the concern is that Bradshaw needs to share the load due to nagging injuries. And Jacobs, while good in relief, I believe will be 30 this offseason. And Ware, nor Scott have shown they can do much of anything in a starting role. So while it's certainly not a pressing need, it is something that I think should be addressed in the draft, but not necessarily in the first round.

  11. Yeah but it's not the first few weeks... it's SIX weeks, and that means the player cannot practice AT ALL for the first 6 weeks of the season... and that means that Ballard really won't realistically be available to play until about week 9, MAYBE week 8 at the earliest. We lost two tight ends in the Super Bowl. There is no way we can go into the season with just two TE's, especially since one of them is also the back up fullback.

They've done this before. They will make a "plug-the-hole" signing like they intended the Brandon Stokley signing to be last year, and they will move on. Somebody not very heralded, but a veteran with a good reputation. And they will go from there. And there's no reason to not pick someone up in the draft to be the starter at the position. Ballard had a pretty good year but he is slow and the Giants could easily upgrade the position.

Pup list doesn't include preseason games or is it regular season only? I was suggesting the 2 TEs as a last case scenario due to it being quite a risky decision. I like the draft one/sign one approach myself.

  12. He wanted to compete for a starting job like 5 years ago! I think he's pretty much past that pipe dream.

    I doubt Carr goes anywhere.

He was in SF just last year competing for a starting job with Alex Smith, no? I think most NFL players have that desire to start, to show what they have. There's a drive, a motivation that consumes a lot of them...or else I don't think they'd even get to that backup level. So I don't know that he's past wanting it. I think the league MAY be past giving him that opportunity.

I look at some teams like Arizona or Seattle or Washington or...on which David Carr MIGHT stand a chance to start. I reiterate..MIGHT be able to start. Whereas with us, so long as Eli's healthy, Carr has NO shot at starting. None. So yeah, nobody's building a team around David Carr, but do I think that there's a chance he could walk, yeah, I do.

What may or may not drive this, and I don't know the figures....but since we're close to the cap and all. What's the difference between vet minimum and the salary/contract given to say, a 6th or 7th round draft pick in the rookie wage scale? If the rookie draft pick makes less than vet minimum, than I think it COULD pave the way for Carr's departure.

  13. ^ I'd quote you but it's a pain to quote long posts on my mobile device.

    However

I don't want Burfict because of his character concerns and I read he lacks instincts? If that's true that's a huge red flag for a LB.

As far as backup QB goes I really like What I saw from Ryan Perriloux last PRe season. Hrs got a great arm, goes through his reads well, poised, mobile, he just lacks ideal height and has had character concerns in the past. Lol the giants signed and cut him from The ps this year like 15 times. But hopefully the kid progresses. He actually looks like he could be a starter someday of he keeps his head on.

About Koger I really don't know much about him, but I've read he has great all around TE ability and that his production was greatly hindered due to the style of offense that Michigan played. I'll try to get more info on him.

Perriloux...that's a hilarious story...you can't find anything on him without them mentioning that he's been signed/re-signed over a dozen times in a single season by the same team. I don't remember seeing much from him. Not saying he didn't do anything, but I just don't even remember seeing him in preseason. If he is what you say, which I don't necessarily doubt, than that's more comforting than what I originally thought. Still, a 3rd QB at some point is something to keep an eye on. Again, nothing more than a vet-minimum FA or nothing earlier than a 6th rd pick.

  14. gmenroc, Ballard is a free agent... can't remember if he's unrestricted or restricted. But I'm thinking he might not get a contract until he's healthy. If he does, he's going on PUP anyway, and that means he misses the first 6 weeks of the season, minimum.

Pascoe, draft pick, and free agent, that is what is going to have to be done. Look for a veteran free agent that would come relatively cheap. Someone like Anthony Becht, Joel Dreesen, or Jacob Tamme to be a Giant. If Peyton likes Tamme, and the Colts don't offer him a contract, I could see him becoming a Giant. Becht spent 5 seasons with the Jets, so he may want to sign back here if he has any local ties at all, like a house here already or something.

I was going off the assumption that Ballard was restricted. If so, he has done enough for them to put a 3rd round tender on him. So, if another team does sign him, we'd get their 3rd. If not, he'd be back with us for at least another season. Then, when healthy, he could get extended/re-signed.

I think too, that the first few weeks, we could potentially survive with a 2 TE rotation.

  15. Yea we certainly have a ton of needs.

It can be said that we need a player at every position other then QB/K/P.

So i think it's BPA all day for Reese.

He's also high character and really smart so learning the complex system we run on offense nay come really quick.

I also really like Dwayne Allen and Fleener. More so Allen since he's a polished blocker. This guy Koger from Michigan has some upside and could be had in the later rounds.

I don't know much about this Koger kid....you have anything handy on him?

I could argue that with Carr being a FA, that QB could be a need come draft day. Not to mention, I don't want the Giants to become Indianapolis should something happen to Eli. I was actually thinking of Kellen Moore out of Boise St. as a VERY late round, if not undrafted FA signing.

I agree on the character guys. I have seen a few mocks that have us taking Burfict at 32. Even if he'd still be there, which I don't think he will be, but still, if there, I think that the attitude and baggage would limit his appeal to the Giants moreso than it might other teams.

  16. I like our taking a WR in the draft, but I don't like it for our #1. I believe that a first round pick should be expected to start and contribute almost immediately, especially at WR. Given Nicks and Cruz, I think we could do better picking that WR in a later round.

If you can take BPA and fill a need in the first, I think that's the direction we need to go. I am looking for that to be TE with Allen or Fleener.

  17. that was the first page, bro. Then, when people realize how bad of an idea it was, it became about anything other than Martellus Bennett as the answer to our tight end woes.

Yeah, maybe I thought some folks would grow the fuck up, not devote 3 additional pages, of a (apologies SW creators, mods, etc) sparsely frequented message board, to petty banter about how stupid one thought the other was and actually return the thread to the topic at hand. So yeah, I read through it all.

That said, I agree that Marcellus Bennett is not the answer. I like Fleener or Allen in the first round of the draft coupled with a FA that can hold the fort for the first 4-6 weeks of the season, to ensure that Ballard has a chance to fully recover. Then, we can go on in the season with Pascoe, Ballard, draft pick. I think Beckum was on his way out regardless and that whatever FA we sign to hold the fort, will be cut once Ballard returns to the lineup.

  18. I would really like to see us draft a potential game changing TE in round 1 or 2 (Coby Fleener or Dwayne Allen would be ideal) ...i also think we need to draft a RB before round 3 ( we are looking bloddy shaky at that position all of a sudden )...., other than that probably an Offensive Lineman is a must in the early rounds.

    regards

    UK

I was looking at Doug Martin at Boise St. for our 2nd rounder, but thought that Pierce in the 3rd would be better value.

  19. I think much like last year it's going to be the best player available at 32.

After that I can see us drafting for need after the first round.

I think that's why Allen or Fleener are becoming more the consensus for our first rounder...because they'd be the BPA and fill a need.
