All those guys. Especially Phillips. I think Steve smith is entirely a product of the injuries. He was more than living up to and exceeding expectations I think.

No doubt.  He was not the deep threat, but he could get open like nobody else we had in a long time.  Had like 5000 catches for first downs it seemed.  We needed 7, he found that hole at 8 or 9 yards.  We needed 3, he found 4.

After having reconstructive knee surgery, he was never the same.

Speaking of wide receivers, Amon-Ra St. Brown from the Lions just got 4 year extension. He was a 4th round pick.

Good thing our WRs suck and we dont have to worry about the market resetting here like the Cowboys do with Lamb.

Neal was the most annoying one.  A LT that high in the draft is supposed to be automatic day one starter.  Hope it works out

Recency bias though...but yeah.  Alabama + starter + position of need.  I think if he would just fix balance issues and ensure he knows his assignment, he can certainly get it done.  But those are two big ifs at this point.

  4. This speaks to replacability too.  With WRs, there are 2 or 3 starters from every team in pros and college.  Likely drops that percentage cause teams can find cheaper options than a 2nd contract.

The 2nd contract metric is not great.  Would be better served looking at games started over games the team played.

  5. Penix is gonna go top 15 because there are more QB needy teams who aren't gonna be able to get the top 3.

Giants, Raiders, Vikings, Broncos and maybe even the Cowboys are all gonna be looking hard at McCarthy, Penix, Nix.

I think I am on the trade back to 11-15 range and just take Penix...but the injuries scare the shit outta me

  6. My hope is that McCarthy is there at 6 and we entertain the bidding war between the Vikings, Broncos, Raiders...would be nice to be the team raking someone else over the coals for once.

Am a Tiki fan - and yes I also agree with his assessment. We are not going QB this year unless by some miracle Maye falls to us at 6. Its going to be Rome or Nabers or MAYBE Alt

Yeah...I have firmly been in the trade up for Williams/Maye/Daniels if you can...but if not, take best non QB at 6.

Would not be mad at trading back and getting Penix at 15 or so either...but that takes someone coming up for somebody...which I hope is why they have been so public about wanting McCarthy...so someone else comes up for him

    My list is this:

Williams - I think he's the real deal but "it's the Bears" also rings true.  In the right situation he can be a really special one though.  Holds the ball too long but does generally read the field well.  Those WRs sucked.

Maye - not sure what everyone else is seeing negatively but glad they're seeing it because I hope he falls to us.  He's going to need some seasoning and the NC offense isn't really an NFL offense but he's big, athletic, has a big arm, reads the field well, and made plays behind a pathetic Tarheels O-line.   I see him as a cross between Justin Herbert and Brett Favre in the pros.

Penix - I think he's the third best QB in the draft and would be a top-5 pick without the injury concerns.  But the injury concerns are huge.  Also a lefty with a weird release. Reminds me of Phillip Rivers with the weird release a little bit.

Daniels - looked awesome last year and was an unbelievable playmaker but who wouldn't look good throwing to that WR corps?  Does not read the middle of the field well at all. I think he's got real bust potential. He'll have a Michael Vick-type career.

McCarthy - looks like a completely average QB, not sure where the hype is coming from.  Seems to have an incredible work ethic and "is a winner"  just like Tim Tebow.  If he's around in the second he's worth a draft pick but this top-5 talk is absolutely insane.  He's going to need a lot of work.  I see him as a Brock Purdy type;  if he's not in the perfect NFL office he's just OK.

Nix - he looks pretty good but he's very old (only one year younger than Jones) and not a top-tier guy.  I think he can give you Matt Schaub-type production but he's not going to be a special player.

I think I'd like any of them except MCCarthy on the team, unless he somehow is still there in the 2nd or bottom of the 1st.

I would still put Daniels above Penix due to injury concerns alone on Penix...but otherwise agree.  I have never seen what everyone else seems to see in McCarthy and like you, and Tiki apparently, don't want him as a Giant.

  9. Maybe they are looking at his ability and injecting that next to Dex and opposite Thibs to derive value.

May not make sense to some, but vision doesn't always project based on past stats.  You have to take a shot.

  10. We just got that OT from Raiders, yeah?  I think that helps hedge Neal.

If we trade down and get Penix mid 1st, I too would prefer that over McCarthy at 6.

And no doubt the QB position is inflated...especially with QB needy teams at 1,2,3 overall with a couple more in the top 20.

I am guessing 6 go in 1st round.  Top 4 qbs go in top 11.  Penix goes before 20.  Someone trades back into 1st for Nix.

  11. Definitely going to see more returns...and will be interesting to see the strategy on the return side.

Kicking team doesn't wanna kick short of the 20...that comes out to the 40 same as kicking out of bounds.

Kicking team doesn't wanna blast it into or through the endzone...that touchback comes out to 30.

Kicking team ideally wants to bloop it with hang time down inside the 5...so it bounces into endzone or is returned.  If bouncing into endzone and touchbacked, comes out to the 20.

That's pretty straightforward.  The return side is where we will see the creative plays because of the kicking team's desire to drop it inside the 20 but not endzone.

  12. No fair catches anymore.  Kicks into endzone need downed.  Two differwnt touchbacks...if bouncing into endzone from in front and downed, it comes out to 20.  Kicks into endzone and downed come out to 30.
