Giants | Team to visit with Arrington again Thu, 20 Apr 2006 05:47:06 -0700 Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) will have a second visit with the New York Giants Thursday, April 20. The team is back in the Arrington chase, and this time it appears Arrington may be serious about striking a deal. Arrington has even agreed to undergo a physical, something he declined to do when he first visited the Giants March 11-12. That's an important concession for Arrington because of league-wide concerns about the health of his surgically repaired right knee. According to Kyle Harden, an associate to Arrington's agents, Arrington intends to sign with someone before the April 29 NFL Draft - possibly even in the next few days. Harden said the Giants are the only team Arrington is planning to visit before the draft. Yesterday, Harden did not give any indication that Arrington's asking price will go down. "The team that gets LaVar is getting a three-time Pro Bowler," he said. "LaVar is looking for a fair-market deal." If Arrington passes the physical, a Giants source said they would be willing to re-open negotiations if his price is reasonable. I think arrington and his agent are sweating now! All those good LB's in the draft are making them think.

I hope emmons is cut too! LB's should never be 6' 5 " anyhow. It seems the Eagles garbage is garbage. Every time we grab one of their ex players its a mistake! the eagle seem to know when to get rid of players. Lets make a pack right now nutty between me and you. The Giants should never take any eagles ex player that is close to 30 years old. never !!

Yes ! a 3 - 4 D the Giants are not!!! We dont even have a NT and OSI and Stray dont fit the bill. Its very frustrating about the LB situation right now.

I like the signing too and to be honest how could you not. Think about the LB unit we had on the field against the Panthers. I also think griesen is next to sign. We might actually have great depth at this position when all is said and done. Pizan question? Do you think that the Rookie LB we draft may be in the starting line up?

well it just seems that griesen was gonna sign back with us. We have blackburn and Short as backups and even Tobor or Emmons would be a back up that's 4 LB backups ! if we were to get arrington that would be 5 backups. Did we carry 5 backups last year? If so than arrington is still a possibility Maybe there not gonna re-sign Griesen. Wonder whats gonna happen here!

It seems with the signing of Short, Lavar Arrington is off the radar and with that Info wHo would you rather see starting with Pierce Emmons or Tobor? I am going to assume that the rookie LB we draft Simms, Carpenter etc... will start. Will the starting LB core look like this Tobor Pierce rookie ? or Emmons Pierce rookie ? backups Short Blackburn Griesen Tobor or Emmons How do you see this playing out???

thats true ryan how we all forget that the Giants have a coaching staff that teach players a thing or two. i can understand the fustration of emmons though unfortunately at the time of signing the giants were patching shit up !!

All agreed that we are excited about Eli Manning! Why there are negative reports about him didnt make sense to us. We tried coming up with any old giants QB that peformed the way Eli did in his 1st FULL year and couldnt come up with anyone. WHat excited most is his ability to be very cool with little time left in the game. We all agreed that his accuracy must improve but it wont be a problem as he will continue to get better and with the Giants going after more Defense this will only make life easier for Eli . DEFENSE is the key now ! We all agreed and left the round table discussion for a beer !

nutty, i have agreed with you on plenty of issues in the past. DT's, william joseph, shockey down in south beach etc.... But I dont agree with you on ELi . Talking the giants blue sun glasses off I saw a kid last year take us down the field with time running out and he put the giants in position to win games and did so as cool as cucumber. Does his accuracy need to get better? yes but what I watched was a QB that will put us in position to win for many years. In his 1st full season he has done what no other Giants QB has ever done. If you can name me a QB that the Giants have had that did what ELi did in his 1st full season than please do so. Also people under estimate the importance of a QB that is cool under pressure with 2 minutes to go. The pressure is not on the RB but on the QB with 2 min remaining and I really think you dis like EA for what you beleive was a pedigree pick. IF eli continues to improve he will prove you wrong on this issue and I am as hard on giants players as you. Eli knows how to win when it counts and that my friend is worth a lot of money in this sport. I hope i didnt offend you brother Giants fan? Your still the man !!

its a business ! loyality ? loyality is long gone and I cant fault any player for wanting to upgrade himself. unfortantely for nick his performance is in between backup and starter. Not good enough for starter but a little too good for backup. one thing is true he plays with heart and ya gotta like that

I know speculation is what sells newspapers but I dont think its possible to know for sure how a college player that goes into the NFL will perform. Over the years I have heard a lot of hype for rookies crossing the line into the NFL and its a crap shoot. The NFL is truly another animal. It always seems that many players in the 2nd through 6th round go on to more success. It would be great if there were some type of stats on that issue.

this was a real weird deal with the giants and him. Now I dont know the numbers but Nick was looking for starting money and he played well at different positions but to pay bigger dollars when waiting in the wings is Simms or Carpenter plus with Pierce and Tobor there is money that isnt gonna go to Nick. I do agree that he has that warrior mentality too bad he doesnt have the physical aspects for being a starter. The truth is our LB core was weak and if we had the real deal as a LB unit Nick G wouldnt be a starter. I do admire your loyality to this guy. The days of loyality in this sport are long gone!

Its seems we have 2 extreme opinions. The volatile life of the message boards! Its very plain to see that there are holes to fill at DT and OLB. Now if the giants can fill these holes and get the execution that they need than all the grumblings will be forgotten But if its a case whereby the players that were suppose to fill those holes cant execute than the Defense has a problem on their hands. DT clancy replacement who??? FA than who? DT ? Fred Robins (starter) if he comes to camp in shape than very posssible DT William Joseph very inconsistant and not starter quality in my opinion backup DT Ducket shows flashes and still learning good backup guy OK we draft a DT which means and investment in the future but not this year!! LB Pierce is a lock LB Emmons losing a step and aging LB Tobor a nose for the ball but still learning LB Blackburn backup What FA do we get L. Arrington ?? maybe but unlikely The Draft: we should get a player who can start as a Rookie (Carpenter, Simms etc...) still a rookie though and with it comes mistakes Secondary: Basically a whole new starting unit except for Wilson! Also a new secondary coach. I am playing devils advocate here the giants are hardly a lock for a great Defense this year. THere are some serious questions that have to be dealt with and could the outcome be very positive? Yes but it also could be negative as well. The cohesiveness of the D is rooted in Strahan , OSi and Pierce after those players we have question marks. and remember its about playing as unit that matters and there are a few nagging questions here. No one can deny that unless the rose colored glasses are on!
