  1. The following are players that were in Gil Brandt's (of NFL.com) Hot 50 (the actual article is a Hot 100) that have NOT been taken in the first two rounds. So, according to Gil Brandt, they would all be value picks tomorrow. So if you like Gil Brandt, then here you go: Jamaal Charles RB, TEXAS Pat Sims, DT, Auburn Jeremy Thompson, DE/LB, Wake Forest Dan Connor, LB, Penn State Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas Obviously we are not needing a RB, but I like the fact that there are two DTs in there that are highly regarded. DT is an area I think the Giants need to address by the 5th round for depth. Anybody have any thoughts on these players?
  2. DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!!! I DON'T NEED TO CALM DOWN!!! I AM FINE, I'M RELAXED!!! WHY WOULD I NEED TO CALM DOWN?!?!?!?!?!
  3. I think we can't assume Strahan is coming back from this draft pick. Don't forget they brought in Danny Clark from Texas, and still have Pierce, Wilkinson, and Kiwanuka. To me, they absolutely must draft a LB or even two on the 2nd day. And no later than the 4th. I trust Jerry Reese, though. I like Terrel Thomas' size and speed, though. Not a bad pick, because Madison is aging, I don't expect McQuarters to be around, and thus we need someone to really challenge Webster. I think that with this move and the Phillips pick, potentially we have really shored up our secondary to the point that it will be a strength to the team. With our pass rush and now a big time secondary, this already scary defense has potential to become one of the top defenses in recent memory.
  4. This pick HAS to be Dan Connor. A steal for the Giants at 63.
  5. I hear what you're saying, but I think Kelly is a lock, and I don't know about Thomas. BB, it would be a horrible shame if BOTH turned out to be studs. I can't imagine us having to match up with Moss, Thomas, AND Kelly (assuming they both work out). Maybe the Giants DO need another corner?
  6. To me, a WR wouldn't have been horrible, considering we would have had our pick of the best WR on the board (that the Giants had highest rated). But I guess you could say that about safety as well and we filled a need. Still, I would like the Giants to draft a big WR target for Eli in this round, but I'm not sure there are any left who are worth a 2nd round pick! 9 WR's gone in the 2nd round so far.
  7. Washington has drafted Devin Thomas AND Malcolm Kelly in the 2nd round. I was hoping Kelly would make it to the Giants. That is two stud WR's going to a division rival, boys. The Redskins became a much more dangerous team today. To boot, the Eagles grabbed DeSean Jackson, so overall the NFC East is importing a tremendous amount of WR talent.
  8. A little disappointed that they didn't go with Tyrell Johnson.
  9. Sorry, bud! I ate my crow in the draft day thread, though.
  10. Bleedin', I have to eat major crow, my friend. No WR's taken in the first round. I thought there was no way that was going to happen. Just goes to show you that you are smarter than me! I'm still hoping for Kelly, but I don't think the Giants get him unless they trade up. I can almost guarantee Philly will take him coming up with this pick.
  11. Well I would argue that we are not automatically sending the Saints to the SuperBowl just because they are getting Shockey. There are two sides to a deal and there is no reason to think that we can't be an even better team with the compensation we receive and/or the increased opportunity/production from Boss. And no, the Saints will not be laughing at us like the Patriots are laughing at the Raiders. Completely different scenario. The Raiders got a 4th round pick for Moss. A 2nd rounder plus another pick or player is fair compensation for Shockey. Shockey is a former pro bowler. He is not an All-Pro TE, and he has been injury prone, and at times has been a liability to team chemistry. He is also a free agent at the end of the 2008 season. I say do it. With the picks we get, we may end up with the next great Giant linebacker or TE. We get younger talent and Shockey moves on to a team that will get him the ball as much as he wants. I see this scenario as a win for all parties. I don't see it like you do, that the Giants are automatically worse off because Shockey is no longer on the roster. Of course the Saints are only saying a third right now. They are positioning and negotiating. But I bet come tomorrow they will offer a 2nd and another pick. Plus we will see what other teams will get involved. Perhaps the Falcons and Seahawks will be in it as well. Reese will take the best offer of course, and in that regard, we are in good shape. Just don't be too disappointed if he leaves, and I won't be disappointed if he stays.
  12. xxi, you are so right. I am paying too much attention to this shit. Why I am I so into watching a bad team play? At least I went to the game against the Nationals the other night and had the pleasure of watching Johan pitch. Then I went the next night and watched Heilman and Sosa stink up the joint. It's unfortunate I spent my hard-earned money to watch this overpaid, underachieving, waste of a team. So tired of it. Maybe I'll pay attention again when Alou comes back. If he can't help this team turn it around, we are in real trouble. Bring up the kids... FMart, Jonathan Niese (who is absolutely DOMINATING AA), and Mike Carp. Carp should be promoted to AAA right now. He is absolutely tearing up AA pitching. The starting 1B in AAA, Abreu, realistically isn't going to be the answer for the Mets in 2009, so why not promote Carp now and see how he performs at the next level? We have other guys at 1B in AA who have performed well also and we can give them a chance to start there. Yes I'm already looking forward to next year. (When Delgado and presumably Pedro is off the team). That is going to be a lot of pocket change opening up.
  13. The punchless Mets are going to lose again. I don't know how much more losing I can take. 2 hits through 7 innings? This is sad. At least we can win when Johan pitches. But not against the Braves. We might not win a game against the Braves all year. They are completely out-classing us. They are far and a way a much better team than the Mets. Of course I know we'll take a couple of them this year, but I have no confidence at all in this team.
  14. I agree. The posters that say we should get "at least a first rounder and more" are kidding themselves. It would be nice, but it's not realistic and no one is going to pay that price. It's as if a 2nd rounder is chump change! Osi and Steve Smith were both 2nd rounders. With the way Jerry has been drafting, I expect a pro bowler in the 2nd from the Gmen!
  15. XXI, from an economical perspective, and I believe that all good decisions made by GMs have to be based on that, I would trade Shockey if I could get fair value. It would be bittersweet, but I'd do it and be confident that I just made my team better.
  16. Bleedin', you can't believe the hype. You know deep down there are going to be WRs taken tomorrow in the first round. It's going to happen. Really, can you imagine Kelly falling all the way to the last pick of the 2nd round? I can't. He is a difference maker and difference makers get taken early. I really believe that Philadelphia and probably Dallas will use their 1st round picks on WRs. Philly is being aloof about what they are targeting, but let's be serious... they have a gaping hole at WR and they know it. They need to help Donovan McNabb and take the humongous load off of Westbrook that he unfairly was burdened with last season. The Cowboys with Terry Glenn and T.O. need to get younger at the position. They are almost forced to do it now, especially considering that Glenn missed almost all of last year with injury. And to stay in the East, the Redskins next most proven WR outside of Santana Moss on their roster is James Thrash. Not very eye-popping. So they have a big position of need there as well. Although they do have diamond in the rough Anthony Mix on their roster! :glare: I'm not trying to come off as a know-it-all and for sure you can never be sure how the draft will pan out, but I think that it would be ludicrous for someone of Kelly's ability to fall to #63. Either way, I can't wait, very much looking forward to the draft!
  17. Tempest, I disagree. We'd only be suckers if we didn't get good value for him. And a Saints 2nd rounder plus a 4th or 5th round pick would be good value, IMO. Things to consider... First, we won the SuperBowl without his services. That counts for something. Obviously, we didn't miss Shockey's blocking all THAT much. Second, he has had his share of injuries, especially to the knees. This is of concern to me. Yet, he still has good value and teams want him. Shall we keep him until those knees have nothing left to give? I really believe Shockey's most productive years (in the Giants offensive system!) are behind him. That's not to say should he go to New Orleans that he won't put up gaudy offensive numbers. But they are a pass-heavy offense without good receivers outside of Colston. So I expect he will get a lot more opportunity in the passing game there. There's something to be said for selling high! Eli does need a TE to throw to from time to time. But not a TE who necessarily wants to be the focus of the passing game. Eli seems to have a greater rapport with his WRs, and uses the TE to keep the defense honest, not the other way around. It's not a bad thing to have an offense geared that way. And by moving Shockey and getting younger at the position, it will help us free up some money for higher quality in other areas. We can also use one of our picks for a replacement TE to compliment Boss, not sure who that will be, but it will be someone with fresh legs for sure. There is an opportunity cost if we don't trade him and if we do. We just need to figure out which cost is higher. My mind tells me that the cost of keeping him is higher than if we traded him now. My heart says keep him, he is a Giant! Either way I think we are ok and trust the Giants front office. A part of me thinks that Shockey can only reach his full football potential and production in an offense like the Saints. From a football fans perspective, I would love to watch him perform in that offense. From a Giants fan perspective, I would surely miss seeing him in a Giants uniform.
  18. To Bleedin' and Golfin': No way in hell does Malcolm Kelly fall all the way to #63 in the 2nd round. If we don't get him in the first we are not getting him. Count me as one who thinks he will be gone by the time we pick at #31. I'm hopeful he falls to us there and we take him, but I will be very pleased to land Tyrell Johnson as well. I do feel Kelly will be a star despite his 40 time and he is the one player I am most geeked about the Giants possibly drafting.
  19. With every grandslam homerun he gives up, my ability to give him man love diminishes. I have no love left for the guy. He should not come in any close game. I thought this team's greatest weakness was it's lack of power, but clearly, it's the bullpen. They should've traded Heilman when they had the chance. Nobody is going to want that bum now.
  20. Thoughts... I was at the game tonight in beautiful Nationals Stadium. I was shocked, SHOCKED I say(!), to see Castillo hit the ball to the outfield in two plate appearances in a row. Now that he knows he is capable of this, maybe he'll actually start swinging for the gap instead of those dribblers to third he does all the time. I'm going to hold out a little hope that Delgado will find his homerun swing again and will put up decent numbers.... ANOTHER game without a Met hitting a homerun. I think that is the achilles heal of this team, that they have a real power shortage. Beltran could help out with this when he starts to go deep. It was nice to see him break out of his slump tonight. He had some great swings. There were A LOT of Mets fans at the stadium. At least as many Met fans as Nationals fans. I'm wondering if Willie has now given Duaner the 8th inning back. He did it tonight in a game that was 5-2 in the 8th. I'm thinking he has and I am very happy about it. Of course Duaner got it done once again. If we are not going to hit homeruns, then this team needs to focus on swiping a lot of bases. Reyes, Castillo, Pagan, Beltran, and Wright are all stolen base threats and they need to do it A LOT. I actually feel ok about this team, once we get Alou back. I don't think they are just a mediocre team, but Castillo HAS to produce if he's going to be in that 2-hole. I think he is the key for this offense to go from ok or pretty good to great. When you think about it, we have been getting GREAT efforts from our starting pitchers, and our bullpen has been losing games for us. Now that Sanchez (hopefully) takes over the 8th, I think we are much better off and the bullpen will look a lot better.
  21. Marcus Thames in Detroit is another player. I like him better than Young. He has power, can play 1B and outfield, and is nothing more than a part-time player in Detroit. We could get him for a good pitching prospect, which is what we should be keeping, but hey. Hate to say we'd have to give up Jonathan Niese for him, but I think that would get the deal done. But it's a deal that won't happen. WHY? Because Delgado makes $16 million this year, and that is cost prohibitive to trade him away. And the Mets aren't going to pay Delgado that kind of coin and not play him. So we are going to have to do what we did with Glavine, Alomar, Mo Vaugh, and Bobby Bonilla, and that is we just have to ride this one out and get somebody in free agency. The good news is that we won't have to see Delgado's sorry ass in a Met uniform next year. The bad news is that we will have to see Castillo's sorry ass in a Met uniform next year. Our only hope is if he (Delgado) goes down from injury and is lost for the season. Then we can justify pulling the trigger.
