  1. When are we going to start talking about Schneider? He has been great so far. Just hit a big homerun in this game. Although Schneider's career numbers are much lower than what his performance has been so far, it is nice to see what he is giving us right now. I think Beltran really helped him in his approach in opening up his stance a little. Perhaps Schneider can keep this up and give us a surprisingly good year with the bat, that would just put all kinds of gravy on that Milledge trade.
  2. Reyes in another year may be the 4th best SS in his own division because Yunel Escobar is a phenomenal hitter AND plays great defense. I think Escobar might be the best of the bunch eventually. But that is ok as long as Jose plays his game. He will still be one of the top SS's in MLB, it's just coincidence we have so many good ones in this division.
  3. I missed part of the game, did Maine bean someone? If so, was it Dukes? I hope it was!
  4. I can see it now: Omar: Hi, this is Omar Minaya, and I'm calling to inquire if your team might be interested in trading for Jorge Sosa? Other GM: Really! That's great! We'd love to trade for him! And while you're at it, why don't you come over here, bang my wife, kick me in the nuts, and shoot my dog, too!
  5. This is outstanding news. This is addition by subtraction if I've ever seen it! Goodbye Sosa! Thank God! Mets brass finally getting it right! I thought Vargas was an interesting choice to start the game on Wednesday, however, he has not performed that well in AAA. Bostick had performed better, but I wonder if it was a matter of adequate rest. But hey, Sosa is gone and it's one game for Vargas. I'm a happy camper! Now the challenge is to YOU, Matt Wise, to be the guy that Sosa was supposed to be! I like Tatis coming up, he has hit with a lot of power in AAA, so it's nice to have a big bat on the bench. Good luck to Figgy down on the farm, I hope you do well and make it back to the majors again soon.
  6. Storm is spot on. The list Bleedin' gave are Legends, that is, superstars that were superstars for a long time. A superstar whose on field (or course/court/rink) performance exceeds the levels of other great players in the game at their time. Dan Marino is a legend, was a superstar. And I hate the guy, he's a prick. LaDainian IS a superstar. Guys like Tiger, Manning, and I hate to say it, but Brady... are current legends because that status has already been cemented with their championships coupled with all-time records achieved. Most teams have at least one superstar, and several stars. For the Giants, it's Strahan, while Osi is on the verge of superstardom, as is Plaxico, while Manning is on the verge of just stardom. For comparison's sake, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens (if you take away the steroids scandal), Ken Griffey Jr., Greg Maddux, and Trevor Hoffman are legends, while Albert Pujols, Ichiro, Jake Peavy, and Vladimir Guerrero are superstars.
  7. Really? Oh. Ok then, my bad. I wonder if Howard wanted to see it.
  8. Man who out there really wants to hear how big of a dick AP has. Keep it to yourself, man.
  9. Dukes is a thug P.O.S. anyway. Damn Sosa is terrible. Please waive him Minaya!
  10. Do I root for Sosa to completely suck? Maybe Mets brass will finally realize they are better off with Smith and Wise than they are with this dude, and just waive him.
  11. Orange AND Blue, xxi! All the way!
  12. LOL, xxi. This wouldn't have been AS bad had the Mets been playing better defense (I'm looking at you, Delgado). However, it looks like once Figgy goes through the order one time, the Nats have him figured out and then it's like hitting slow pitch softball for them. xxi, in an earlier thread I think you said he is best served as the Mets long reliever. I think you are correct. That said he has been ok all things considered for a 5th starter replacement. It's Perez and Pelfrey that need to be more consistent, that is my concern. C'mon Pedro!
  13. Well Wise is back down with Port St Lucie. Surprise! I think this might have to do with needing Bostick to pitch on Wednesday, however. So they are going to call up Bostick for a start, and will probably option Smith at that time, then optioning Bostick back to AAA after the game, and bringing up Wise. I think this is the way they are going to go, but I really wish they'd keep Smith up with the big club.
  14. Couldn't find it on Youtube yet, but it's great.
  15. This could be a great game for the Mets. Nationals just came off a series versus the Marlins where they were completely outclassed. Their team has to be down a little bit confidence wise, and the Mets are riding high as their hitters are stroking it right now. That said, they are going to need to give Nelson and the bullpen at least 5 runs of offense tonight. Let's do it!
  16. Ok I see your point. But clearly Willie didn't put his best 8 guys out on the field. Either way, I'm not going to be worried about one loss where 4 backups who obviously didn't have their timing down were playing. The positive you take from the whole series is that the starters who were struggling at the plate are getting hot at the same time... remember me mentioning something about that? Reyes, Beltran, Delgado, and Castillo are all coming out of slumps and are hitting, and even Wright a little as well, with Church continuing to crush the ball. They did score 21 runs in the series and that is a great sign.
  17. He's doing it though! Church is a player who hasn't had the time to fully develop... it's reasonable that this year could be his breakout season! It's getting to the point where very soon we can't say it's because of a small sample size! He's leading the team in homeruns and 2nd in RBIs, and that is exactly what this team needed because Delgado couldn't do that for us last year. I have to say that I'm very encouraged.
  18. Well Easley and Anderson are no spring chickens themselves! I mean, Easley will be 39 years old later this year. Anderson is 35.
  19. First, the ['64 Phils was a worse collapse than us. They were up 6 and a half with 12 games to go, and went on a 10 game losing streak. But did the '65 Phillies go out and get one of the best pitchers in baseball? No they did not. Can't say Fergie Jenkins because he was a rookie and only pitched 12.1 innings that year. Plus, the game has changed so much that nothing that happed in the 1960's in baseball can be relevant today. As far as the 96 Angels, yes they stunk it up. But they didn't do anything to dramatically improve their team either. The Mets did. They got Johan and they traded for Church. Those are two big acquisitions that will pay the most dividends. Couple that with the return of Sanchez and this team could be much, much better than the team that finished 1 game out of first last year. Don't you think that it's even a possibility? They are 19-16 right now, and you have given up on the team already. What happened last year does not matter anymore.
  20. I really think it doesn't matter who he idolizes. As long as he picks off passes and lays the wood on opposing receivers, I'm good. If you want to honor Sean Taylor, fine with me, if honoring him means playing like a pro bowler for our NY Giants! But he also should feel honored to be wearing the jersey number of one of the greatest Giant players of all time, and should be respectful of that while making sure he keeps up the tradition of excellence that Tiki carried with that number on the field every Sunday.
  21. You are correct, both have played the outfield. They could afford to do that because of both Easley's and Anderson's flexibility. Easley is more of an unpolished outfielder, however. I don't expect that to happen, though. One reason is that Castillo's legs are acting up again and they are going to need those two guys in case he has to sit any length of time, so keeping Pagan up with the big club is probably the best thing to do for now. I do think it is very curious that Wise is up with the big club right now and they haven't made a move yet. I think there is probably a lot of debate going on about what to do. Normally a decision would've been made by now. I think that indicates that they REALLY don't want to have to send Smith down. I kind of think Sosa will clear waivers, though, and if he doesn't, I wouldn't be that upset. I say send Sosa down! If he doesn't clear, you've got Collazo or Muniz at Triple AAA to take his place if the need arises later. Muniz has pitched 12 innings and 11 K's without allowing a run so far this season.
  22. Dude, you are really being an ass. I never said that Pagan was some super player that was going to lead the team to the pennant. Get over it. I only mentioned Pagan as ONE of the pieces to the team that is different from last year. Fuck already. I disagree with the idea that this team is the same as last year. People keep talking about what record we are since whatever date from last year. Last year is OVER. We are 19-16 THIS YEAR and that's what matters. 19-16 isn't bad, and it's not phenomenal. We are not even 40 games into the season yet and I have to read about people freaking out that we haven't won 6 games in a row yet. Who gives a shit? The point is to try to win series. We just won 2 out of the last 3 series, and one of those was against the best team in the National League. Everyone can see that this team is playing better. Beltran and Delgado are finally hitting and this team is doing very well. It seems like unless they win 9 out of every 10 games you guys think they are dog poo. Get behind this team now or don't bother at all.
