  1. if i had season tickets i'd be at every game--but that's me, and i can't fault someone for wanting to make a few extra bucks on a game that means nothing to the giants.
  2. eli may be flawed, but at least he wouldn't rather take a sack than hurt his stats by throwing a pick
  3. smith's friends with isiah, he's as bad as lupica when it comes to evaluating guys he's friends with or enemies of these guys objectively
  4. i hope so, you know i got nothing against the yanks or seeing them do well. if im a yankee fan im just as excited about the kids as you guys are, but the businessman in me is screaming "MINIMIZE THAT RISK NOW!"
  5. he's not ideal of course, but when it comes down to this choice: option 1 LF--damon/matsui CF--melky rotation: wang, pettitte, joba, hughes, kennedy or option2 LF--matsui CF--melky rotation: santana, wang, pettite, joba, kennedy i'd easily take option 2. billy beane once said it's not a good trade if both sides aren't feeling some pain. to get a guy like santana you gotta pay the price
  6. sure, but do you like johan santana better than mike mussina?
  7. i dont know what the d-backs were thinking w/ the valverde trade
  8. interesting timing Upon word that the Minnesota Twins were considering dealing Johan Santana, the New York Yankees jumped at the opportunity to land the ace. Then the talks stalled. Johan Santana Starting Pitcher Minnesota Twins Profile 2007 Season Stats GM W L BB K ERA 33 15 13 52 235 3.33 Now it appears the two teams are back at it. The New York Daily News and The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J. reported that the Yankees and Twins have had "a couple of brief calls" recently and Yankees senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner said Friday the door is "not closed" for the Yankees to pull off the deal. "It's up to Minnesota what they want to do and I assume they're still thinking about trading him," Steinbrenner said, according to the Daily News. "As far as what I'm going to do, I don't know. There's been a couple of brief calls. The door's not closed. "I'm still thinking about it." Steinbrenner said general manager Brian Cashman talked to the Twins about Santana "once in the last couple of days", according to the Star Ledger. Santana, a left-hander who turns 29 in March, has a 93-44 record with a 3.22 ERA in eight major league seasons and is owed $13.25 million next year. Steinbrenner disputed a report in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that said Santana's agent has told interested teams such as the Yankees, Boston Red Sox and others that Santana will require a seven-year contract extension worth $140 million. Santana likely would want an extension in exchange for waiving his no-trade clause. "The Twins haven't told us that [about the $140 million], no," Steinbrenner said, according to the Daily News. "We haven't talked to his agent directly, either. We can't. And Minnesota's not going to call us and tell us." The Red Sox have reportedly offered a package that includes one of their top prospects -- Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury -- but only one. The Yankees had proposed swapping pitcher Phil Hughes, center fielder Melky Cabrera and a midlevel prospect for the two-time Cy Young Award winner. While up-and-coming pitcher Joba Chamberlain was deemed untouchable, Steinbrenner is coming to grips with the possiblilty of losing Hughes. "That's something that I'll have to decide," Steinbrenner said, according to the Daily News. "For the near future, we're in a no-lose situation, to tell you the truth."
  9. well clemens is the only one we know for sure, and justice too--he did have that out of nowhere sick season when he was traded here unless you want to count glennallen hill
  10. i've been a big sports fan for 14 years and none of my fav teams have won a championship during that span--i'll take it however i can get it. i figured brown was using, and now it's confirmed, but that doens't change the 98 NLDS game 1 performance for me--it's still the greatest game i've ever watched and the most fun i've ever had as a sports fan--i can't retroactively go back to that point in time in my mind and take away the enjoyment i got from that game, it's just not possible IMO
  11. well to be fair the mitchell report only goes as far back as the 01-02 offseason as far as pettitte's steroid connections go. but clemens obviously was doing them in toronto and probably did them off and on in ny
  12. clemens usage only goes back to his blue jay days, and mo vaughn's goes back only as far as his time w/ the angels
  13. brian got off the train early, he was smart. he's turned into a pretty good player w/o them.
  14. very anti-climatic though, at least half these guys have had a public report on them prior to mitchell report. the only guys i was surprised about where not all-star caliber players. either they couldn't dig very deep cuz of the mlbpa and no subpoena, or they are just holding back the big players who who would shock everyone
  15. woo hoo, only one childhood hero of mine is in the report
  16. it's like christmas, i feel like such a nerd "The sources would not reveal the names of players included in the report, but confirmed that as many as 80 are listed. One lawyer expected several "very, very high-level names" to be exposed, although Mitchell is frank in the report about how difficult it was to get information regarding the extent of player use." (espn)
  17. he had a back injury in '05, and was on 15-day DL but i dont know how long he was actually out. that's all i could find on him
  18. mick i would think you are right regarding clemens and a-rod but clemens' name has already come up in the grimsley report (thoguh the names are blacked out, supposedly it is part of the mtichell report now), and though these guys have the means to have their own guys you can say that about many of these stars. relatively speaking most of them are poor compared to clemens and a-rod but they are still millionaires. i don't think any big name red sox player other than schilling would be in the report--i do find it odd that schilling reportedly refused to speak to mitchell, despite the so-called clubhouse code--he's had no problems breaking that code before and now suddenly he doesn't? maybe im off base but that seems a little fishy. and i am inclined to believe ortiz juiced. he absolutely came out of nowhere after being cut by the twins of all teams, had those heart issues, etc. but despite that i dont think he'll get outed, everyone loves the guy and i can't see anyone ratting him out if he is dirty. manny i would automatically assume except that he's been consistently ridiculous with the bat since he was young, so unless he started early i think he's clean. beckett? i mean if the guy didn't have so many injury problems plus that one year where you could argue that he was just adapting to the AL east hitters i would have expected him to have 4 great seasons in a row following the '03 world series. the injuries aren't steroid-type injuries (blisters and such right?), and it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility that a big kid from texas is throwing gas at the major league level w/o cheating
  19. right before he cashed in on it--though he did have a couple of them
  20. im with you on everyone but cabrera (assuming you meant miguel). burrell giles brothers burnitz mo vaughn greg vaughn pettitte valverde kevin brown randy johnson larry walker kerry wood thome cordero (the one who just signed) shawn green delgado barry bonds
  21. well that is definitely wrong, im just talking about their strategy of winning the world series, selling everyone off, and starting over again every 4 years or so
