Giants meeting with Russell Wilson

Here's the thing.

We clearly aren't playing Jones , if he gets hurt and ends up on IR again he gets something stupid like 45 million from the Giants regardless.

He ain't playing a single down lol

So if that's the case why not go after a vet guy like Wilson who is going to cost nothing, peanuts since he's making money from the Broncos still.

If the Giants go QB then he can sit a year behind Russ whole the Oline gets tuned up.

If the Giants go WR atleast we have a QB who still likes to throw downfield, and we get a weird 17 weeks of football.

All for vet minimum or close to it.

Anyone else we can bring in on that same type of money won't be nearly as good and any other QB is going to cost more than we should pay for a year or two rental.

All the places that want him are trash cans, atleast NY is a big market.

If Russ did end up here he would start day 1 and it wouldn't even be a competition.

Actually that's the only reason he'd come here, is because we'd make him the starter.

I hesitate to call Pitt a good team but they won 10 games and are a step up from what we were last year.  The big market thing is a bigger factor for him than most guys though, that’s true.  There was a lot of talk about Ciara wanting that a few years back before the Denver trade.

The team is only two years removed from a playoff win.

Average/below average teams can squeeze into the playoffs and get a win, you see it every couple of years usually teams from the NFC South or most recently AFC East, when teams get a one off playoff run.

The Bucs this season are a pretty good example of a mediocre team squeezing into the playoffs and beating a team didn't have any right too.

The Giants in 2022 overachieved with a very weak roster and we're lucky enough to play against the worst defense in the NFL in the wildcard.

Unfortunately that roster was exposed this past season, with many glaring holes QB being the biggest one since without that your nothing in the NFL.

But next year is a wash year.

Wilson atleast plays 17 games.

And probably fucks us out of a top 5 pick.  Just roll with Jones.  Find a cheap vet to back him up ala Tyrod.  Draft a guy this year if you can.

If we are throwing away 2024...then throw it away for real and don't sugar coat it.  Call it a tank and don't waste time on the Russell Wilsons of the world

If we roll with Jones and he gets hurt he gets his injury guarantee meaning we still owe him 45 million even if we cut him lol

There is no advantage to playing Jones.

Also we aren't getting a top 5 pick lol

Valid point about injury.  But you uave to account for his full salary assuming he earns it all for cap purposes.  Anything he doesn't earn is part of what rolls over to the next year.  So it isn't like we are getting some mid year free agent if and when Jones goes down.

absent two guards and likely Barkley and uncertainty with Neal coupled with a new defense and potentially a new QB...top 5 may not be off the table at all

You play the best guys regardless of if they are injury prone.

It's stupid to base value on being injury prone. He may also stay healthy.

Giants aren't replacing Jones. He's the starter next season.
