"Just how bad does Antrel Rolle want free-agent CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to join the Giants?

This bad: He said it very publicly using Twitter on Monday morning:

DRC DRC DRC DRC!! We need him @Giants

— Antrel Rolle (@antrelrolle26) March 17, 2014

There's no doubt he was reacting to the news that Rodgers-Cromartie was visiting with the Giants after turning down a six-year, $54 million deal from the Broncos and that the cornerback would be taking a physical on Monday.

The pair were Cardinals teammates from 2008 to 2009 before Rolle signed with the Giants, so he's familiar with what the former Pro Bowl cornerback can do".

damn i had no idea he turned down 6 years 54 million. i have a hard time believing we're going to exceed that

According to reports, that deal was actually back loaded with only 10 million guaranteed (some say 9M), leaving the Broncos a lot of flexibility to dump him after a couple of years, along with his contract. DRC would never have come close to getting that 54 million. In reality, that contract offer with all it's fine print, loop holes, and exit clauses was an offer of 10 million. DRC's agent understood that as did his client - and that's why he walked.

Guaranteed money is the most important thing in a contract.

Bingo. $7 mil is a fair price. His cap price != salary. The Giants have restructured him and moved previous years' cap liability forward.

I was under the impression it was north of $9M.

Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie reached agreement Monday with the New York Giants on a five-year, $39 million deal that includes $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Rodgers-Cromartie spent this past season with the Denver Broncos. He's also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals. He made a visit to the New York Jets on Saturday.

He is the third player added to the Broncos' * secondary since Sunday, when cornerback Walter Thurmond and safety Quintin Demps agreed to one-year deals.

The Broncos gave Rodgers-Cromartie a tough-love approach after signing him last March. The defensive coaches, especially coordinator Jack Del Rio, said they would push him to get him to play better.

Rodgers-Cromartie said that's what he was looking for and that he played better with the Broncos than he did in his two seasons with the Eagles. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and played, for the most part, in the right cornerback spot.

Del Rio did match him on specific receivers at times, but not all that often.

Rodgers-Cromartie originally signed what went into the books as a two-year deal with the Broncos, but the second year voided five days after the Super Bowl, making him an unrestricted free agent.

ESPN.com Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold contributed to this report.
