  1. Overall, I'd give them a B. However, I have to disagree on some points you've made. Our biggest need this offseason was clearly the secondary, but not at safety. Every position, with the exception of Wilson was in need of improvement. Webster showed some flashes of being good, but the jury is still out on whether he will be a #1. Can't make that judgment after just one season. The secondary was overhauled in free agency with Sam Madison, who, despite slowing down a bit, will provide us with quality veteran starter. We also acquired RW McQuarters, who will provide much needed depth. Throw in Webster for his second year and a healthy Will Peterson (yeah, I know that's not definite) and we have a pretty good mix of veterans and youth at CB. Safety was upgraded significantly when we signed Demps to replace Williams. Our second biggest need was at linebacker. The unit was killed by injuries last year. Granted, many of those players are coming back and will be healthy, but we clearly had no depth. Arrington is a huge upgrade over who we had starting on the weak side last year. And as of today, he's really the only weak side linebacker we have, so yeah, he's needed. Keep in mind all linebacker positions are not the same, despite some guys being able to play all 3 (or 4) spots. Pierce will be back in the middle. Emmons/Torbor will fight to win the strong side. Brandon Short provides a very reliable backup. And as deep as this draft is at the linebacker position, I really wouldn't be surprised at all if we drafted one in the first or second round for yet more depth. Regardless, we've improved at the position substantially. Our third biggest need wasn't known until after free agency ended. We lost Clancy from our DT ranks. This loss is one of the reasons why I didn't go any higher than a B grade. Clancy showed that he could play in this league and had promise. I would have liked to see him re-sign and apparantly the front office did too, but wires got crossed and he took off. I think he could be replaced fairly easily, but not as easily as if we had simply got him locked down in a contract. I think DT will be addressed in the first two rounds of the draft to bolster the depth of the position. Another cheap free agent might not be out of the question either. You can't really give the offense a C, because there's not much to upgrade. This offense was near the top of the league early on when everyone was playing well. The problem was that defenses then had a host of game tape to review and to prepare for. By the very nature of the game, offenses face greater challenges as the season wears on, simply because opponents know what to expect. Offenses need to change it up a bit or know how to overcome these challenges. This falls on the coaches as much as the players. So, besides a backup QB and a 3rd WR, we're set on offense. But you should also keep in mind that the 3rd WR in this offense is the 5th option on any given play. Toomer, Burress, Shockey, and Tiki will all get looks before any 3rd WR on any given play. And when was the last time that the Giants had more than 5 options on a given play on a regular basis? The line played well enough last season, and another season to gel will hopefully make them even better. However, I wouldn't be opposed to a draft pick used for Luke's replacement in a year or two. Regarding trading up, I don't see it happening. Torbor has too much upside. Blackburn is a special teams guy only. Our 1st and 4th only total 768 points while the 15th overall is 1050 points. Even with Torbor or Blackburn, I'm not sure they would be worth the additional 282 pionts.
  2. Wouldn't mind a WR in this draft, but not any earlier than the 3rd round. Brandon Marshall and Devin Aromoshadu are interesting prospects slated for 4th round. Despite the accomplishments of Steve Smith and Santana Moss, I'm not sold on the small, quick receivers just yet.
  3. I know that the values remain the same from year to year. And I know that the unknown of where next year's draft pick will be in a given round would definitely subtract from it's value and because of that, a first rounder this year is much more valuable than a first rounder next year. That's not really what I was asking. Let me use an example: For argument's sake, say we wanted to move up from 25 to 15 in the first round this year. 15th pick is worth 1050 from what I've seen. Our 1st (25th overall) is worth 720. Our 3rd (87th overall) is worth 155. Which, if any, of next year's picks would be of enough value to make up the additional 175 (1050 - 720 - 155) points needed to make the trade equal?
  4. I, for one, voted for Ernie Accorsi. I mean seriously, couldn't you come up with a bigger bust than Dayne? Cedric Jones, Jeff Hatch, Ron Dixon,
  5. Pretty much what I was thinking. I don't exactly know what year Tiki is signed through, but I would like to see him for at least two more seasons. When we draft a RB next year, that would allow us to have him on the roster for a full season behind Tiki to learn the offense fully. It would also give us another year to evaluate whether or not Jacobs is an every-down back. As far as Ward, I think he's underrated, but in no way would I want him starting. Just my take on it.

    Draft

Yeah, I mentioned the trading up option before consulting the chart.
  7. I have a draft pick value chart, but it only covers the current year. Does anyone have a chart that assigns values to next year's draft picks for this year's draft?
  8. I'm not so concerned with the need of a 3rd WR. What formation will we be in when we have Tiki coming out of the backfield, Toomer, Burress, and Shockey all in pass routes and still need more. That's 4 options. Keep 6 on the line to block for Eli. I really don't see us going in a 5-wide set. And even if we do, that 3rd WR will be the 5th option. So while it would be nice to have depth should Toomer or Burress suffer an injury, it's not as important a need as you might think.

    Draft

Everyone knows this draft is really, really deep at LB. There's no debate about that. Top 5 DTs in my opinion are: Ngata, Bunkley, Watson, Wroten, and Wright. I'd love to move up in the first and grab Ngata or Bunkley, but we might only be able to move up enough to grab Wroten or Watson.

    Draft

I've heard the opposite regarding DT. After the top 3, there's a substantial dropoff.

    Draft

Now, see, I was thinking the dead opposite. With DT being one of the few glaring needs remaining on this team, I was thinking more along the lines of being able to trade up, and get one of the better DTs. I don't have a copy of the draft pick value chart handy, so I'm not entirely sure what it would take to move up from 25 to around 15 or so, but if it's a 3rd rounder, I wouldn't mind doing just that. No way I give up a 2nd. But if we go DT in round 1, backup LB in round 2, and WR in the 4th; I'd be more than happy.
  12. I can't say that I'd be completely against this as long as we didn't pull the trigger until draft day. I'd hate to go through with the trade now and then not have the guy we're targeting there to pick. We could easily write it up so that we have first dibs on a trade of picks (so as to avoid any other team trading with Baltimore before us) and that the trade only goes through if player A or player B are still available. A 3rd rounder to jump up 12 spots, that doesn't seem right, but then again, that's what the article said.
  13. Saw the segment last night too. I thought they were a bit on the harsh side, but not too bad. Eli definitely struggled the second half of the season as teams geared up their defenses for what we were doing. That's going to happen every year and you have to be able to overcome it. Part of that falls on the coaches too. They probably should have saved some stuff to unveil towards the end of the season. Tipped their hand too early in the season. The Carolina game was just a debacle from the start.
  14. I've been saying all along that we'll go LB in round 1, DT in round 2, CB in round 3 and WR in round 4. Now, because of the acquisitions we've made to the secondary, I'm really beginning to think WR might get pushed up to round 3 and CB down to round 4. And now with the signing of Brandon Short and the assumption this thread is making that we sign Arrington, I think DT might be moved up to round 1. All this goes out the window if one of the top rated players in the draft drops to us at 25.
  15. Not that I think it will be of any consequence, but it was just brought back into memory that Short and Arrington played together in college. We now have two (Short & Pierce) of Arrington's former teammates.
  16. You just have to believe that it's going to come down to price. That's what it's been about since his first meeting and even reading between the lines with this new snippet, it's still the overriding issue. If his price comes down, we'll sign him. If his price remains the same, we'll let him walk. The choice will be his. Like I read earlier today from another post, I really don't see this affecting our draft strategy. Emmons, Pierce, Torbor, Arrington, Short, Blackburn, and draft pick.
  17. I know it's Giants football related, but thought I'd let those who stay on this side know as well.
  18. This was rather unexpected. Not sure what I think about this move.
  19. Claude Wroten was my original pick for the second round, but his stock has risen steadily and he probably won't be there. I'm also intrigued by Rodirique Wright, although his taking plays off here and there is rather disconcerning. Regardless, I feel DT is the way to go. 3rd round I have slated for another CB. I was thinking along the lines of Anwar Phillips or Will Blackmon. I don't have a WR until round 4, and there I'm thinking Cory Rodgers, Devin Aromashodu, or Brandon Marshall
  20. 1: Outside Linebacker 2: Defensive Tackle 3: Cornerback 4: Wide Receiver 5: Linebacker (for depth) 6: Offensive Tackle 7: Running back (depth)
  21. After bringing in Demps, Madison, and McQuarters this offseason, I highly doubt we go secondary with the first two picks.
  22. Not really keen on 7 years either; I was thinking 4 or 5 year deal (as long as it didn't end in the same offseason as Pierce's deal) at about 2-3 mil per year, throw in a 6 mil signing bonus and some play-based incentives (total of 14 to 21 mil + incentives over 4-5 yeas). I was glad to see we at least tested the waters with Arrington. It appears that money is a bigger motivator for Arrington than actually winning.
  23. Regarding the compensation for June, it all depends on the offer that Indianapolis has offered him. If they're smart, they've offered the minimum amount to guarantee a first round pick. He played pretty well last season. I don't think a first round pick would be worth it at all, but I'd be willing to put up a 3rd rounder.
  24. “I feel real good. I have full movement, full range. The first hit, maybe I’ll be a little wary of. But once I get it and nothing comes back, it’s full go again.”- LB Chase Blackburn Seriously, every time I read a quote from this guy, it makes me want to go out and play football. Love that attiude.
