  1. I think the Cards to a 7th cause everyone, including the Giants, knew he was gonna be released outright. Giants just paid a 7th so as not to compete with other teams when he was eventually let go
  2. Meh...not really. Dunno why I feel that way about JPP and not McKinney. And I am pretty sold on McKinney as a solid starter and a key piece to this defense. Of course, I felt the same about Love and Pinnock has stepped into that role. I am interested to see how the safeties improve with better CBs in front of them.
  3. I think about 80% of the NFL likely put all their eggs in the pro athlete basket. If fame, name recognition, and athletics were stripped away...they would be in a bad way. So yeah, McKinney made a pretty questionable choice too. Hell of a player and want him in blue for his career...but yeah, wasn't a smart thing to do
  4. Yeah, I read that too...as well as his not wanting to play LB and kinda forcing a position change. He is a hybrid, there is no doubt. When your 5th year doesn't get picked up and you get traded to a team with a good DC...you gotta think he's gonna put his best out there, no? Cause it's kinda vet min/career backup/ST guy if you fail here. I think with any players cut this time of year...there are reasons teams send them off..so there is risk. But I like that he has a chance to rewrite his history and we have a chance to take advantage of a hell of an athlete with a DC who knows where to plug him in
  5. I love the guy too as a player. Off the field it's a wonder he made it thus far.
  6. Yeah, but now it is almost his calling card and almost something to brag about. Still retarded, but his perspective is likely(cue dumb frat boy voice)...yo, look at my hand. Look at what I played through. I am tough as shit
  7. You're thinking Eli Apple and his mom, Annie (I think it was)
  8. Also...just read that after season, if Simmons signs a multi year deal elsewhere, Giants will get a compensatory pick in return making the experiment free. If he does well for us and he is extended, even better. Even lower risk than previously thought
  9. Yeah, thought he was gonna be resigned back in the day. Glad he had a good career and he's retiring a Giant
  10. I also trust Wink to put him in position to succeed moreso than the Arizona coaching staff. Even if he is some mix of Landon Collins and Jaylon Smith (the LB from the Cowboys)...there is certainly some usage there from an off ball backer.
  11. Can't complain for a 7th...was a combine freak...very athletic. Gotta believe he is best in space and clearly has range. A bit surprised to hear him linked to the inside as opposed to outside. Interested to see him in blitz packages. Don't see him holding the edge...so maybe that's the benefit to being inside. I do like him in coverage of TEs and RBs. Either way, as mentioned...a very low risk move and gives Wink something to get creative with.
  12. Against a mix of starters and backups playing vanilla patterns and plays. Not saying it isn't good news...but need to pump the breaks a bit here
  13. No debate there. Solid, reliable, available. Can excuse the occasional brain fart if 90% of the time the dude does the job...especially over 10 years
  14. Diehl was one of the most underrated guys. Dude started wherever he was called/needed. Was the quintessential Jack of all trades, master of none in the offensive line. Solid, reliable...but not necessarily probowl calibur at any one spot. If Neal becomes that, I'd be ecstatic after his year 1 struggles...but given draft status, my hope and expectation is that he becomes more of a Kareem McKenzie and is healthy, solid, reliable...take ownership of the right side kinda guy
  15. I think our ability to attack multiple levels of the defense is most worrisome for defenses. Not saying the guys are restricted to the areas below...but, Legitimate underneath stuff to Barkley, Campbell, Bellinger. Midrange to Hodgins, Shepard. Deep to Hyatt, Slayton And that doesn't include Waller who can hit all 3 levels. The quickest way to limit our offense is to pressure Jones and take away the deep ball, but id he has a 5 yard safety valve in Barkley or Campbell...or can escape for a 5 yard run...those pressures will stop and the long ball will open up. I'm excited to see what we do when the games count.
  16. Way I see it...top 50 picks should be day 1 starters, save maybe a QB. Next 100 picks or so, I give a full offseason-season-offseason before I truly expect consistent play, even if it isn't an every-down player or ST only. End of the draft, I would look at whether they had any spot duty to cover injuries and effort given daily to evaluate. Methinks with only 53 or so roster spots and injuries in football...if you're in the roster for 2 or 3 seasons, you are gonna see 'some' playing time
  17. Hawkins has done well in camp and had good showings in preseason. I don't recall ever having confidence in Williams. Look, you get overdrafted with Flott, Banks, and Hawkins in 2 drafts. And, for what it is worth, Wink has earned the trust of the organization and fanbase. If Williams was worth keeping, he'd be kept. Previous regimes never earned that respect.
  18. Panthers were without starting DE's I think...and even so, they aren't very good. So I will take the win with a grain of salt. That said, there is a good bit to be excited about. Waller is a dude, that agreed, teams are already planning for. Hyatt will be interesting...not saying he's gonna be a game changer yet, but teams aren't going to single him up. The Hyatt/Waller combo is going to challenge defenses. End of the day, I still think the offensive line play dictates a lot...and is razer thin in depth. That alone is more the tipping point of improving over last year or remaining stagnant.
  19. Really like what I have seen from DeVito...dude is gonna land somewhere as a backup. Beginning to wonder if he pushes Tyrod
  20. I think we wait to see who drops off teams rosters at cut down. A 1-year deal for a stop gap vet at OG might be they way to go. Draft next year IOL to keep that pipeline flowing
  21. Brain fart by Neal to end the half. Really encouraged again by depth of secondary..and yeah...Riley seems like a find so far. Seems this year may be Williams last. Still want to see Thibs take over a series/game. Tuned in late...but seems DJ was sharp. Last preseason game will be meaningless given we play Jets in reg season. Gonna be real vanilla on both sides...may not see any starters
  22. Love that they came right back to him...that was a nice route for the TD
  23. Agree...but it's high time defenses catch up. And there isn't really room to do so within the confines of the current rules. Outside of Tampa Two, which is beatable by a talented TE or receiving RB in the middle...there hasn't really been a defensive breakthru in years. Hybrid DE/LB and CB/S to hide coverages is about it...
