  1. If you push aside the ball rolling through Buckner's legs, the Sox probably win the '86 series.
  2. ...the guy seems to come up huge all the time. After all the nonsense with the Cubs this year, he comes up with two outs in the ninth against them trailing by a run, and hits a three run homer. The Cubs freakin' blow.
  3. Little premature there, no? Don't forget your closer is Billy Wagner, so you'd better hope the Yanks don't put a couple of runs together here. Regardless, I think the overall record of the AL in interleague play is no fluke. And you guys are definitely not better than the White Sox or Tigers. Also, could your team win one more game before you guys start getting giddy again? A loss tomorrow makes it 1-5 vs. Yanks and Sox (not even the ALs elite), which is nothing to get excited about.
  4. Uh, I don't remember anybody writing the Yankees off. You guys have never been more than 4 games out. You can play the underdog card, though, if it makes you feel good.
  5. Eh, don't read too much into it. The Sox looked equally horrible in Minnesota just two weeks ago. The Mets are a good team, they'll rebound (hopefully this weekend, in a big way). I like the little sweepy guy, though.
  6. Never fails in baseball. Just when it seems like your team is invincible and everything is cruising along, you get knocked back into reality. I'm sure that's just around the corner for the Sox.
  7. Just kidding, Met fans. Do us a solid and take care of the Yanks this weekend.
  8. Why would you pick that particular start as a comparison? I compared Pedro's first start back at Fenway to Clemens' first start back at Fenway. It's the same situation.
  9. Yeah, what you did is pretty much the same thing as what I did.
  10. As a Sox fan, I have to vehemently disagree with you. They're only four up in the loss column, have done this all at home, and vs. weak competition (for the most part), and it's still very early. They need to show a lot more consistency on the road, and against strong teams, before I'd say they are the class of the division.
  11. Yup, it was more important that Pedro got a nice reception last night than the Mets got a win. Move on.
  12. Then what does it matter whether I posted the whole quote? It's like the dopey athletes who say stupid shit and then say "They took it out of context." There is no context for those words.
  13. Again, I'm not disputing the fact that the guy is still a very effective pitcher. It's just that when they talk about how much guts Pedro has, and what a great teammate he is, I have to laugh. I can't tell you how many times he didn't get the job done against the Yankees, then said something stupid. Clemens struck out either 15 or 16 in his first game back at Fenway. He also shut them down in the Zimmer/Pedro game. Sure, he had some bad starts against them, but to say he had a tough time against them for the rest of his career is silly. Also, guys usually struggle against their former teams because they're in the twilight of their career (which is why the team let them go). lol I almost forgot about that one. What kind of a competitor says, "I'd rather not pitch against my old team."
  14. Pedro blew the play, plain and simple. The point is, he never should've looked to third in the first place, because the throw on that play is always to second. He admitted as much.
  15. Lest anybody think the sole reason the Sox didn't resign him was because they didn't think he was a dominant pitcher anymore: "I’m not disappointed at all. I think I won the game on one side. Not even a win would give me the satisfaction I got from the fans... I won my game, the most important game to me.. Regardless of the result of the game, I'll always remember this as one of the best moments of my life... I'm not disappointed at all. The reception I got overmatched what I did out there. I'm extremely happy... " -Pedro, 6/28/06 His act had grown really tired in his last few years in Boston, and comments like this were the main reason why.
  16. Yeah, it's just kinda tough to get walkoff hits when you're winning by 8 runs every night. Oops! Sorry, didn't mean to rub salt in the wounds there, gate.
  17. Probably a lot of people moved down, but I'm telling you the place was empty. Kaye and Kaat even commented on it earlier in the game.
  18. Part of it was. Good job by ARod, but shame on Yankee "fans". The team is fighting for their lives, they tie it up late, and the place is a ghost town when they win it.
  19. It was a good situation for ARod. 90% of those dedicated, die-hard Yankee fans went home in 9th inning, and he was facing a bottom-of-the-barrel NL closer, so the pressure wasn't so great. Nice job, Slappy!
  20. I see- nervous, not scared . Okay, so anyway...
  21. I don't want to say I'm concerned, but he didn't have any lift on that hit at all.
  22. Plow obviously not around during the Lou Pinella era.
  23. That's really nitpicking. You can't fault him for that. You can't take your best option out of a game you're leading just because you don't want him to get hit by a pitch.
