  1. You're totally missing the point. First off, nobody said he's not a good ballplayer. Second, in response to your question, Derek Jeter wouldn't want to keep a hitting streak going, or so he said last week. Remember, he's not into personal accomplishments. That's the whole point of the argument.
  2. What he did last night is irrelevent, and who knows what his thinking was. Maybe he figures Burnett's thinking, "He won't swing on 3-0 again, so I'll throw one right down the middle". Maybe Torre told him he should try it more often. Maybe he figured he looked like a hypocrite and he'd better swing at another 3-0 pitch soon (nah, couldn't be that). The fact is, he swung at a 3-0 pitch on Sunday because he wanted to keep his hitting streak going.
  3. Don't know if I'd go that far, but he's not the Mr. Clean that he's protrayed as, either. Don't get me wrong, I think Jeter's the best player in baseball. He always knows exactly what to do at all times on the field and is as clutch as anybody. But you can't say what he said and then swing on 3-0 in that situation when you haven't done it the last 115 times you've had a 3-0 count. It's pretty obvious what his intention was. To call it grasping at straws is ludicrous.
  4. Not Jeter. Apparently, he's above that.
  5. If he doesn't play for individual achievements, as he claimed last week in the whole press-invented Ortiz/MVP fiasco...why did he swing at a 3-0 pitch in his last at bat of the game last night, when he hasn't done that in four years? Was it because he had a hitting streak on the line?
  6. ...of the Retarded QBs Association, after that laughable false start penalty.
  7. Let me have my fun. It was the only thing we had left to play for.

    Mets!

Wrapping up that division title with authority!
  9. Not the Sox! Just injury and underachievement poster boys.
  10. Yeah, it makes sense that a minor injury would be headline news on a team that has suffered a ton of injuries. Try to think things through next time. You won't look so dopey.
  11. Yeah, that's why it was a back page story. Everybody knew he had cancer when the story broke, genius. Guess you won't be licking my ass by responding to my every post here anymore, huh Harry? It really was pretty pathetic, anyway.
  12. So it's okay to make fun of someone's enlarged lymph nodes (psst- everybody with half a brain knows that means cancer, which might explain your ignorance), but not their subsequent cancer? Jesus, you're a simpleton. And speaking of sore losers, go start another thread about how mean the mods are to you, ex-mod. Your recent personality change is pretty funny. You used to be bland and angry. Now you're just bland.
  13. Did I say that guy had class? Anyway, I agree with you. Anyone who would make light of someone's cancer, or take a swing at an athlete during a game, is a freakin' retard.
  14. Normally, with their pitching, I would say no. But it looks like they could slug their way there this year since no team seems to really have the horses to stop them.
  15. Don't be sorry. Just beat the Mets. Then the Yankees.
  16. Competition. Yeah, okay. Anyway, they actually have 3 legit starters with Wells, don't know who the 4th is. They also have a lineup with no Papi, Manny, Varitek, Nixon, Pena, Gonzalez or Crisp, and no bullpen whatsoever, and a nine game deficit with 30 to play. But if you say they can get back into it, you must know something I don't. I never said we were going to get anything for him. However, if you have a guy who is playing his last season, has no real ties to the organization, and has trade value and has cleared waivers, doesn't it make sense to get something for him? And I guess the Mets are a foregone conclusion for the WS? The deal is supposedly with San Diego, fyi, who would be a measurably better team with Wells, especially in a short series. There are other suitors as well, and it's not impossible that he ends up in the AL.
  17. Yeah, I guess they should hold onto a guy who's not pitching past this year instead of getting something for him, even though they're fielding a AAA lineup. Face it, you're scared Wells might haunt you in the postseason. Why else would you care?
  18. I'm over it already. Sorry, but the thought of that big shmoe making the trek to the ballpark, then sitting in the stands watching his team lose again is pretty funny. If I remember correctly, they lose, like, every time he goes.
