I have always wondered that. Players prefer grass by a pretty significant margin...but the Old Time guys were no were near as fast and muscled as the new guys are....the tork on their joints ...on any surface has to be 10 times what the guys from say, pre 1995 or so put on their bodies. C/ Wagon

The issue with the hash marks being so close is that it insures 100% of the line of scrimmage scrums where the biggest guys rumble...occur on about 15% to 20% of the turf. C. Wagon
