  1. I'm thinking this is a Drew Rosenhaus move - he did the same thing with T.O......act like a big jerk until the team is forced to trade you.
  2. I understand your argument. But if life were a game of Monopoly, and perfection was Boardwalk, Shockey's still on Baltic Avenue.
  3. The Dallas fan has some points - the Cowboys I'm sure are very pissed off as to how their season ended, and I'm sure they feel they should have played the Patriots. The Patriots - or at least, their fans - must feel that the Giants caught them on their worst day of the year. And the Giants have a ton of distractions already - retirements, holdouts, squabbles, etc - that are common to most Super Bowl Champs. But, when you look at the Giants on paper, they are still a very solid team, and if Reese hits on half the 2008 draft class, we've offset our offseason losses. You can't replace a Hall of Famer like Strahan, but the next best thing is preparing for his departure, and I think Ernie and Reese get an A+ grade on that. Coughlin went from "dead coach walking" to a Legend Killer in one season; Eli went from "potential bust" heading into 2007 to Super Bowl MVP in 2008. Spagnuolo went from an unknown bargain basement DC into a defensive genius in one season. These are three very big reasons why the Giants will remain a contender in 2008. If 2007 proves anything, it's that great teams will beat great players in the big game. Giants fans want winners, and I'm sure we'll be upset if Big Blue falls on their face in 2008. But, we have some very fresh, very sweet memories right now. The same cannot be said for the Redskins, Eagles or Dallas right now. Their fans are eating their hearts out right now. Zorn is too new to get fired (although I wouldn't put anything past Snyder), and Reid is still at least one more season from any hot seat (at least from an ownership perspective), but The Skipper in Dallas?....his ass is on fire. And Rom0-2?.....well he's staring at a fork in the road - is he the next Aikman or the next Danny White? If the Giants have anything over on the competition, it's this - among all the NFL powers out there, the Giants, along with the Pats and Colts, have QB's that have won the Big One. That's right, I'm calling Eli among the 3 best QB's in the NFL right now, until someone else proves me wrong in the postseason.
  4. Not to play devil's advocate here, but since I harsh on Shockey quite a bit, I think it's just fair to point out that Reese has a tendency to shoot from the hip too. Winning cures everything, but it wasn't too long ago that Reese referred to his franchise QB as "skittish". And prior to that, he publicly slammed Luke Petitgout - after he had already cut him loose from the team. Prior to that, he was dancing a bit with Strahan during that offseason holdout. So to be fair, if the saying is true that it takes two to tango, Shockey's found himself an experienced partner with Reese.
  5. Not sure what "words were exchanged", but the Shockinator should realize that you can't beat the GM in a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors.
  6. I might be off base on this, but I'm pretty sure the reason he wasn't on the sidelines is because he was on crutches, and there was a concern that he wouldn't be able to get out of the way should there be a pileup that went out of bounds. Not sure if it's an NFL thing or a Giants thing, but I know it was a medical/rehab thing. As far as Shockey's reaction, I'd give him more of a benefit of the doubt except for his track record - not saying he's a bad guy, just that he blows his stack more than Old Faithful.
  7. It's sad to see him go, but he went out as a winner, and helped deliver the Giants a 3rd Lombardi Trophy. And thankfully, he leaves the Giants with a great defensive corps that can carry the torch.
  8. It's official - Benson was cut by the Bears.
  9. True....I'll grant that Tyree won't unseat Toomer, Smith, Burress, or Manningham but I can't see Hixon, Moss, Jennings, D.J. Hall, London and Lowber all leapfrogging a very solid special teamer who is now also a Super Bowl Hero.
  10. Classy lookin' joint.
  11. That to me is the most important reason while the Giants will remain a contender. Yes, the defense was absolutely fabulous in the playoffs. They kept the Giants in the game against possibly the most explosive offense of all time. But in the very end, it took Eli Manning to win the game against the best 4th quarter defensive team in NFL history (the Patriots were 80-2 with 4th quarter lead under Belichick since 2001.....80-3 now).
  12. Nem, you'd better bring a 2x4 with a nail through it, because if you want to get to me, you'll need to go through Kevin Boss first.
  13. In twenty years, the top 3 Giants tight ends will be: 1 - Kevin Boss 2 - Mark Bavaro 3 - Howard Cross
  14. Boss - my favorite tight end. (waiting for Nemesis to read this).
  15. He got us 2 TD's against the best 4th quarter defense in NFL history.
  16. Maybe we should trade Eli for a QB that utilizes Shockey's immense physical gifts properly.
  17. Apparently people need a little superstar lesson... For the record: Eli Manning - not a superstar. Tony Romo - give me break. Peyton Manning - a star, yes; superstar, no. Tom Brady - see Peyton Manning. So who is a superstar? I present Mr. David Hasselhoff.
  18. I'm surprised they had us as high as #2....everyone seems to be polishing the Jags lately.
  19. Diehl is one of my favorite Giants. He did a great job for us in 2007, considering it was a transition from his natural guard position to the 2nd most important position in the game. He gave up a few sacks, but that's what stud defensive ends do. Nobody is going to call Jon Runyan a pussy because he gives up a sack here and there. He's young, durable, athletic, smart, and has a terrific demeanor. Trust me, if this guy hit the free agent market, he'd be gone in minutes. Great job to keep him under contract.
  20. I agree. He's a damn good tight end, even if he is a meathead. And really, his production has been pretty consistent: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/ShocJe00.htm The two questions I see are: 1- can the Giants obtain enough talent/draft stock in a trade to offset losing him? and 2- if he stays in 2008 (and all signs point that way), what sort of player is he going to be in 2008, on both a physical and emotional level? Will the broken leg and heart both mend? I have to say my thinking is greatly influenced by the Giants playoff run. If we got bounced by Tampa, then this discussion probably doesn't even start. But we won it all, which is a pretty damn convincing argument that we'd be fine if we traded him.
