BlueInCanada
With the departure of OBJ the WR went from one if the best to the absolute worst in the NFL. Shepard isn't a #1, Coleman is still a bust until he can figure his shit out and the other Shepard doesn't strike fear into anyone. Evan Engram isn't a TE, he's arguably the biggest liability in blocking on the line since Flowers was on the team. Ellison is more of the TE that Shurmur wants lining up on the line. So with that in mind do the Giants kick Engram out to WR to help fill the void left by OBJ? Since being drafted his biggest comparison has been to Evans in Tampa Bay. CrazedDogs
I don't think it will be an 'official' move, but I had the same kind of thought about how it will affect the offense. Have to expect Engram to split out wide more often since he's the closest thing the team has to an X receiver now.
JayD
I'm thinking they take advantage of the cap space for next year and sign a couple back loaded contracts soon, with guarantied money. Hopefully that will include a decent WR. If not, yeah, I could see that happening. Like CD said, unofficially.
BlueInCanada
The NFL doesn't really have back loaded contracts anymore. players know it's one bad leg injury away from never getting paid again. They want the guaranteed money in either the signing bonus or the first couple of years. Especially with how Getty is shipping players no one would want to back load a contract with him. Storm
Yeah, Im going to go ahead and say that theyre going to target an X in the top two rounds. Engram may split out, but hes not close to being an X.

Storm
As far as I know, we are still waiting for him to emerge as a consistent TARGET, arent we?
BlueInCanada
As far as I know, we are still waiting for him to emerge as a consistent TARGET, arent we? I'm not saying he'll be the next Jerry Rice, he just does better when he isn't on the line ad a TE, with OBJ gone, Engram could very easily fill in out wide across from Shepard or Coleman. Shepard is better in the slot anyways. They could always bring in some vet FA WR I suppose. But I'm just saying we lost a massive weapon and we need to find ways to use the guys we have to try to find some way to get those yards back. Herc
I thought they should make him the slot wr even before this trade.
Storm
They should be looking at Tyrell Williams and should have been looking at a guy like Cole Beasley.

Storm
Giants seem to be pursuing Chris Hogan. Poor mans Adam Humphrey.
BlueInCanada
Giants seem to be pursuing Chris Hogan. Poor mans Adam Humphrey. I always liked Hogan. If Shepard, Coleman looking like the two outside Hogan could fill into the slot well.
CrazedDogs
Ugh, got to get Shepard in the slot full time. He's not a wide out. I don't think he has the field vision to succeed in the slot either. In particular, he doesn't read zone d very well. Lots of potential though, if he can learn it. I miss our Steve Smith. Now that was a slot receiver. I'm very intrigued by the Baylor slot receiver, Jalen Hurd. Haven't seen much, just find his description very interesting. Like an entirely new position. Shepards done well outside the slot in fact he was never even in the slot most of the time with OBJ and Engram on the field. This idea of slot vs split out wide needs to die in the NFL, since most teams motion guys around and are running three wide anyways.

I think what it comes down to is, I don't think he's done all that well. He's put up Reuben Randle kind of production. Not even quite that. As a third guy, as a slot, I like Shepard a lot. As a primary target, even as the second guy, I don't think he's quite there. And I like the slot position, I don't think its strictly a little guy role though. The guy I think of is Jason Witten. He had amazing feel for defenses, he never seemed to fail in his slow motion run to the open spot in the zone. Our Steve Smith was the same way. Maybe 'position' is the wrong word for the slot - its a skill that I think Shepard needs to succeed in the NFL.
Herc
If i remember correctly Shepard put up great numbers two years ago in the games Beckham missed. I think hes up to the task

I think hes up to the task Yeah Shepard rookie year he was the leading WR for rookies or something along those lines. Engram really emerged this year when OBJ was out those last five games, he was PFFs highest rated pass catcher for the last six weeks of the year. Sephiroth
Yeah Engram looked really good in those last 6 games or so, we just have to hope he keeps catching the ball instead of dropping it.
