I'm essential due to one of my jobs so I've been in this mess since the start, but haven't caught it yet. The slot reads the defense and will either run the corner inside or a quick out to the flat. The WRs clear out the zone by running a post and a fly pattern. The LB has to decide to stay in the middle to cover the crossing WR, so the slot takes the out, or the LB drops back into coverage to cover the fly route, freeing up the middle for the slot to run the quick post.
