Giants' Score Card for Free Agency - Updated 4/7/14 (pg 2)

Judging by this FA frenzy, I have to believe the FO is focusing on offense in the draft. I'm sure they'll do something to shore up the D-line, but I can't imagine them splitting the difference equally between defense and offense as usual. I suspect at least two offensive linemen, a TE, a WR, and maybe another RB. If they could grab someone like Dee Ford in the 2nd, I'd be impressed.

I think Anthony Spencer is still out there so that remains to be seen... so if he was to be signed the DL will be less of a concern having JPP and Kiwi not to mention Moore... I'm not concerned at all about the interior of the line.. I think What we have will work just fine and looking forward to seeing more of Hankin out there. And like you said I can totally see the Giants focusing on the O in the draft .. with at least to OLs and a stud #1 WR and a serviceable TE or a stud TE instead.

According to half the stories I've read this morning, Spencer was brought in as a way to force Kiwi to restructure his contract. If he refused, they'd cut Kiwi and sign Spencer. As soon as Kiwi agreed to a paycut and the contract was signed, Spencer was sent packing.

Don't know if there's any truth to it, but it makes sense and shows the FO is getting cynical and desperate to right a sinking ship.

If true, that's the business side of it. It's also being a bit of a dick on the Giants part

Absolutely NO to Bear Pascoe. There is no upside to Bear Pascoe, average blocker and below average receiver. His knowledge of the system is moot since the system is now different.

This FA season has left many veterans still up on the board now looking at humbling contract possibilities. We can still grab some very good experienced veterans at multiple positions that are upgrades.

To be fair Kiwi isn't a $4M+ a year player either and him taking a paycut is fair for all parties.

I like Kiwi, but at 31 yrs old, his best days are behind him. Only baseball pitchers improve after they turn 30...and not because they are physically better, but because they become wiser and use their brains to get batters out. All other positions in sports there is a steady decline in males after they reach 30.

Why did we resign Steve Brown for 4 mill and let Tuck or Joseph go?

I have to believe they felt Tuck's best years were behind him and it would be costly to keep him...probably much more than 4 million.

I don't think they wanted to let Joseph go, they simply knew he was going to command a hell of a lot of money. He did. He got it.

4 Mill for an average Safety, coming back from ACL injury is a bit too much.

I would agree with that. He played like a pro-bowler before the injury. They must think he's a hundred percent or something because that's a lot of dough. I wonder if a lot of it is incentivized? I would hope so.

He sure as fuck got us a lot if interceptions....

Besides what's so special about Joseph?

I still don't understand the Joesph love.

He might as well be known as Jonas Seawright for all I care.

Tuck I have love for what he did as a Giants but he's so far past over the hill it aint funny and he's going to cash in those big pay checks over in Oakland.

Joseph was a very solid player for us. A true run stuffer and he could also get to the QB. Minnesota sucked him up for a hurry for 5 years / $31.50 million. There was no way the Giants were going to go long term with him. Half the reason they are in the cap trouble they've been in is because of long term contracts that have bit them in the ass. Maybe that's why they've dealt out so many 1-year contracts with these free agent moves...so they can clean house of anyone who doesn't perform and have working money for the next year.

Exactly ... And Tuck played relatively well on only a few games last year... The previous 2 years he underperformed
