fringe
An Interview of Jim Harbaugh: You mentioned last night that Alex is a Pro Bowl quarterback. Do you trust that the coaches and players who vote won't be swayed by the huge passing numbers or the number of touchdowns and look at the things that you just brought up? "It's possible. That's the low hanging fruit. Just go right to the yardage line or the touchdown passes line. I think people that understand football understand that there's a lot more that goes into the job of a quarterback than those statistics. Whenever a player is just thinking about statistics, whether it be sacks or yardage, those kind of agendas, interceptions, it can often hurt the team. We'll see. There are other great players out there in the National Football League. I believe there are three that go to the Pro Bowl, right? [Green Bay QB] Aaron Rogers, [ SaintsQB] Drew Brees, Alex Smith. I think those are the top-3 in the NFC in my humble opinion."

Sephiroth
I think the three guys that are in are definitely the three that deserved to go. Not sure I'd put that down as "bulletin board material" though. I think it's actually a little bit overrated... the news this week was "Oh my GOD, did you hear what Justin Tuck said! Bulletin board material! Bulletin board MATERIAL! He said, 'I think our fans hate the Cowboys as much as I do!' How scandalous! How out of line! Justin Tuck providing ammunition for the opposite team!" What was he supposed to say, he loves the Cowboys and so do Giant fans? Alex Smith is having a good season... OF COURSE his coach is going to think he belongs in the Pro Bowl.

What coach isn't going to make the argument that his QB who had a good year and lead the team to a 12-3 record out of nowhere should be in? If the giants would need to use this as motivation should they get in the playoffs, so be it, but that would be a ridiculous stretch and would sound just plain silly...but then again, big bad Brandon Jacobs is so ignorant he probably would take this and run with it... I doubt any other coach besides this guy believes this crap... personally I want to see Eli get mad... when he does, which is rare, he plays lights out. gmenroc
Was listening to Kordell Stewert on Mike and Mike this morning singing the praises of Alex Smith over Eli too. That one I just don't see. The argument is very simply that while SF's defense and running game carries their team, Eli carries the Giants. While that seems like it's not a big deal putting it that simply, it really is noteworthy for a QB to put the team on his shoulders and win the game as opposed to just not losing it and providing just enough to give your offense some balance. If you want to argue Matthew Stafford or even Tony Romo over Eli, it's a better stance from which to base your argument.

Eli has to actually win games because the D has allowed so many points. I'd like to see Smith try and recover from the 49ers D giving up 30+ points. Herc
i got no problem with him hyping up his qb like that. if im one of harbaugh's players i love hearing that just like if im one of eli's teammates i love hearing him say he's in brady's class this preseason he knows the media will make a huge story about it if he says smith is better than the two golden boys. no one will get upset about him saying he's better than eli

That's a hypothetical dynasty. In their defense, plenty of other teams passed on him too though.

The dog doesn't think it is disrespecting little eli at all. It is a coach giving props to his QB who has played well in helping the team in position for a number 2 seed when nobody would have given them too much hope for the playoffs this year... And gmenroc has an excellent point...how did stafford get passed over? Better numbers than eli, more wins...shaft. Must be an NFL conspiracy...no doubt the officials have conspired against him as well. Dirty, dirty league...
