Explanation from the Ref on the 'Forward Progress' Call

I contacted the Ref who writes our "ask the Official" column about that CC Brown non-touchdown call. Here is his explanation.

The call of forward progress that negated the Raiders fumble was technically correct although often it is not called that way. A runner is entitled to all of the yardage that he gains before he is pushed back by the defense. The Raiders runner made it to the 5 before being pushed back to the 7 where the ball was stripped.

Many times the officials will allow the play to continue and the fumble would have resulted. However, the covering official stopped the action and was coming in at the 5 and as a result, the play was dead at that point and the ensuring action is not reviewable.

Wasn't he picked first or second in the draft....the Raiders kind of remind me of the expansion Bucs back in the 70's....

First overall, a classic kid who decided to cash in and left school too early, not ready for the NFL, then fucked himself by holding out. If he would have stayed in school one more year, he would have been more prepared for the speed of the game and likely have been on a different team, and i honestly think he'd be a respectable QB.
